As of May 31, 2015, MacRumors is using the XenForo forum software.

We welcome you to post tips and tricks here for other forum members who aren't familiar with XenForo.

Interesting change. Any equivalent to the control panel where our subscribed forums are listed? That's my old bookmark and now I can't find a similar feature.

EDIT: I think I found it; going to have to follow my forums again it seems. So far it seems to be much friendlier to my iPad. Going to have to give the site a try on my iPhone now.

XenForo – uppercase X and F. Just so that people can be accustomed from the outset.

(Whilst the logo might imply a lowercase x, "XenForo Ltd. is registered in England and Wales with company number 07294282".)

In the open test environment (May) the preference was persistent, as expected.

Not per page …

… set the preference at any one page, then reload the others.

That may be the case. I had 3 pages of unread posts. I set the option on the first page. When I went to the second, it was not set, so I set it again. Repeated the same scenario for page 3. It appears to be sticking now. It also "sticks" when replying, so it could have been PEBCAK.

Thanks.

Ugh, why are email notification preferences in a different section than alert preferences? This would never have happened if Steve Jobs were still alive.

If you want to stop getting emails every time a reply is made to a thread you posted in (a really annoying default setting btw), go to Preferences in your profile rather than Alert Settings. There's an option to stop automatically watching threads and/or to stop getting email notifications in watched threads.

Looking for info on managing attachments in forum threads. The distinction between linking to a url image and uploading an image to the site. When you select the "image" icon, is this linking or uploading?

Is there a way to do an advanced search in a single forum? Don't see that.
Thanks! :)

Push the little 'upload file' button :)

Except that it looks like "upload file" is designed to upload a file from your computer. The following is an example of an image uploaded from my computer.

In the old system you could link to an online image using brackets, or you could upload a image to MacRumors as an attachment. The latter is what I'm looking for info on.
Thanks! :)

If your known good password was accepted before, but not immediately after, improvements to the site
  1. Be prepared to receive an automated e-mail, at the address that you associated with MacRumors Forums
  2. to generate that e-mail, use the on-site password reset routine.
If that routine does not allow you to regain access, then please make your next step a browse/search of the Site and Forum Feedback area with special attention to topics that are pinned (uppermost).

Background (technical)

https://diigo.com/07ocp3 for highlights from discussion of a bug that was observed a few hours before scheduled migration. Whilst I did not pay close attention to that part of the discussion, I gained an impression that it may affect some users whose passwords included a non-ASCII character.

Luckily, I thought to change my password to something simpler before the migration, and this time didn't have any problem logging in.

I keep getting emails because I replied to a thread though I turned off the email notifications. There simply isn't enough control over this or it simply isn't working.

You can do either in this one

Click on the unsubscribe link in the email

Do I have to do that for each thread. Will every thread I post in auto create a subscription until I unsubscribe. Really I only want emails when someone quotes a post of mine. And ideally I'd prefer that in a daily summary option rather than for each quote.

1. There's an unsubscribe to all watch emails link in the email.
2. You can't specify that degree of email customiztion, unfortunately.
