Become a MacRumors Supporter for $50/year with no ads, ability to filter front page stories, and private forums.
You can do either in this one

Click on the unsubscribe link in the email

I went into the profile and unchecked:

Automatically watch threads that you create or when you reply...
and receive email notifications of replies
And then went into alerts and unchecked all in the first section except for:

Quotes your message
Someone directly quotes one of your messages in a thread
I figured that would do it but I was still getting emails. Hopefully the unsubscribe has fixed that.
Usually I just log in and see a bold number in the corner telling me how many quote notes I have. And look at those responses and then head to threads I've been active in to see the discussion. This will take some getting used to.

Is there a good forum iOS app. Tapatalk? ForumReader? ForumRunner?

Is it possible to set a single forum as read rather than globally setting all as read?

Edit - figured it out. Not really intuitive. :D

You don't even need to do that; just drag'n'drop into the reply box.

As an experiment, I dragged this url to the reply box and no image. But below...

This image was dragged from another browser window on my Mac.
This image is linked to an external image.

For the iPad, the "image" button links to an external online image.

How to manage MacRumors forum post image attachments?
Attachments that existed before the make-over still appear in posts. Anyone know how to manage them? Are those going away or will they remain? Are new images being uploaded into the same system? I'm asking because I've got several MacRumor Guides with images, that are backed up in Pages documents and I'm trying to figure out how best to manage images associated with them in the backups. Before I had an attachment number I could reference to make an image appear in the forum reply. If these images are sitting on MacRumors somewhere, for the backup I need to know how to designate and manage them them.

Thanks again.

The above image was added using the "image" button and a url. it links to an external site.

Hello...
I like the new forum look
But I'm confused
When I pressed the little arrow it took me the last place I was in a thread
Now it only does that when there is a new post but if I just want to enter a thread it takes me to the first page

I've also found myself ending up in strange places. I'm not sure, but in some cases it might involve waiting for a new page to completely load before hitting a navigation button.

Every time I hit the forum I like it more and more. I love how it takes me to the first unread post in a thread I've been following. I love how it takes me to the first post if I haven't been in it before, because sometimes the titles are so similar I can't remember if I've read it or not. (And some people need to read the whole thread before they start squawking!)

How do I turn off the avatars?
There's no user preference to turn off the display of avatars, as the previous forums used to have.

Technically, this capability could be provided if MacRumors designed a "no-avatar" alternate version of every forum style. That's one of many sugestions that could be made.

Meanwhile, you can control the display of signatures by hovering over your user name at the top of the page, choosing Preferences from the pop-up, and checking or unchecking the "Show people's signatures with their messages" checkbox.

I was very accustomed to the vBulletin forum and have always loved it. Never been a fan of Xenforo, but the design for MR is nice. A question though:

On vBulletin, we had a very handy feature to search for something inside of a thread. How do we do this with the new forum?

Click the search icon, then the gear icon that replaces it, type your search term, check the Search this thread only checkbox, and click the Search button.

I notice there's now a small blue dot which presumably means there are new posts in a thread, and it appears it can be clicked to jump to that post. Just wanted to add that it's very difficult to click on a mobile device. Any chance it could be made larger?

Off-topic posts here aren't a big issue. We plan to collect tips, information, and answers to questions, turn them into a form that's better for reference, and eventually un-pin this thread.

Since arn has implemented some of the suggestions posted by forum members in the MacRumors Forums Theme Change and New Platform thread, and in other threads, some of the final answers haven't been determined yet!

As of May 31, 2015, MacRumors is using the XenForo forum software.

We welcome you to post tips and tricks here for other forum members who aren't familiar with XenForo.

I think this info would become more valuable if someone, since this is not a wiki post, the author ;) took the bull by the horns and consolidated concrete tip in the first post, in the form of a guide, instead of having to browse through x number of posts. Just a thought.

For another question, I just figured out that you can't see signatures on an iPhone 6plus in portrait mode, but you can in wider landscape mode. Wtf? If you are in portrait there is no way to see this info without rotating the phone? :)

Be nice if this were an option and not the 'AI' of the sizing software.

@arn I just noticed this on my iPad Air 2, the buttons in each post change depending on the orientation of the device. In landscape mode the Edit and Report buttons are at the bottom left of the post. In portrait mode both buttons are under a Tools dropdown at the bottom right of the post. Can we get the Tools menu on both the landscape and portrait orientations?

See my post right above yours, which explains our plan.

Workaround 01

A lazy workaround, a vaguely memorable URL, you can bookmark this (or the address to which it redirects):

Though it may be difficult to see, there is actually an icon for this at the top and bottom of every page.
