A developer has set out to recreate Apple's Dynamic Island experience from the iPhone 14 Pro on Xiaomi's flagship smartphones by integrating the hole-punch cutout into an interactive and dynamic area of the display.

The new theme, called Grumpy UI, was shared on Twitter and shows the theme utilizing the hole-punch cutout at the top left of the display to show the currently playing song. The theme is currently being reviewed for approval by Xiaomi, according to its developer. Xiaomi reportedly rejected a previous attempt by a developer to bring Dynamic Island to its devices.

Dynamic Island is a new area at the top of the iPhone 14 Pro and iPhone 14 Pro Max that integrates the TrueDepth camera array into the iOS experience. The iPhone 14 Pro‌ uses the Dynamic Island to show relevant alerts, notifications, and information at the top of the display, such as Now Playing, Live Activities, AirPods alerts, and more.

Dynamic Island has received a positive reaction online, with some saying it's "Apple's best design in years." In addition to Dynamic Island, the ‌iPhone 14 Pro‌ and ‌iPhone 14 Pro‌ Max also feature an always-on display, a 48MP Main camera, better performance, and more.

The iPhone 14 lineup, which includes the iPhone 14, the iPhone 14 Plus, the iPhone 14 Pro, and the iPhone 14 Pro Max, was made available to pre-order last Friday. All models, with the exception of the iPhone 14 Plus, will begin arriving to customers on Friday, September 16. The iPhone 14 Plus will be available on Friday, October 7.

“Never disappoint”... to copy other people’s ideas.

Android version will be called ‘Fantasy Island’ because it’s a fantasy if they think they’ll get it right.
I guess it depends on what your definition of 'right' is, personally I think it doesn't need to be exactly like Apple's to be noteworthy

No, no, no. Dear developer, the animation should grow from and always embed/include the cutout. That is the whole idea. Make the cutout an integrated part.

Why would someone want to imitate and technology failure like Dynamic Island? Apple did this because they don't want a keyhole instead of a notch for the time being until under display is actually workable. You say going forward Apple will keep this Dynamic Island as a functional part of iOS ? Sad if you ask me.

Although not a bad effort for a couple of days work, wonder how much time and how many people it took Apple to get that far.

It took Apple way longer because they had to actually come up with the idea and experiment with it.

And Apples implementation is a thousand times more thought out — it both works and looks so much better.

To be fair it is software and android OEMs have done some quickly things with software and notifications before. Like LeD notification lights and special cases and covers that you could get notifications on and interact with them. As it’s software I do think they will introduce their own versions very soon.

When will people realize most of Apple's new "game changing" features are just software tricks.
The things making the most money nowadays are “software tricks”. Amazon, Microsoft, Apple, Steam, Epic, Nintendo… the reason why folks buy them are not to sit there and admire the well designed hardware. They buy them because of the software tricks developers figure out how to get running on them.
