When will people realize most of Apple's new "game changing" features are just software tricks.

An iPhone X still has the same overall experience as the latest Pro, can't blame em, there isn't much to keep innovating. Just lipstick on a pig or a cat.
Apple’s hardware (at least, its SoCs) is still a good 2-3 years ahead of the top Qualcomm chips in flagship android phones in terms of performance and performance-per-watt.

Visually cool little features like this are less “lipstick on a pig” and more “icing on the cake” if you’re in the market for an upgrade.

Mi Theme Developers never disappoint (when copying other companies)

I know it's just a developer having a bit of fun but just like the notch I wouldn't be surprised to see pretty much all Android phone makers copy it. The next Samsung will probably have it and the next Pixel too.

I think it's a cool feature and a great way to make use of the hole punch/pill but I am still waiting for a completely all display phone. That's the end game.

Yep. While Samsung marketing is busy mocking the new phone, Samsung engineering is busy removing the SIM tray and copying dynamic island.

It’s always been the software.

Remember this is just a random developer on his own doing this, just to say he can. Nothing to do with Xiaomi trying to imitate Dynamic Island. Just before every fails to read properly.
I give it less than a year before Xiaomi adds both the cutout and the island to their latest hardware.

So, what you're saying is that Apple's advantage is that they make the software and the hardware? You don't say?

I can't stand people who are saying this is game changing. It's just designing around a giant hole and hiding the camera in black space!!!! Nothing more. Sure it is efficient and good designing, but it's not changing anything!

I know dude, but comments like yours are a dime a dozen. Always trivializing, mocking, something that hasn’t been done before and saying, “meh, it’s a nothingburger”. Instead of appreciating a marvel of software implementation and giving credit where it’s due and moving on. Is it game changing? Up to your perspective. It is a multi tasking tool providing information while doing other things on your phone and it’s visually satisfying to see the animations associated with it.

Samsung will do this next year and the Samsung fans mocking it will all of the sudden love it. And probably also say Apple copied it from Samsung somehow.

It's the reason why people buy apple products. The hardware is just a nice bonus, but other manufactures also have nice hardware or will copy apple eventually. But the nicest hardware in the world will be worthless if you have crappy software. Otoh, well designed software can make mediocre hardware great.
You need to post this, verbatim, on a Samsung forum. Sammy makes some really nice hardware, but gawd the software is awful (more bloated than my stomach after an all you can eat taco binge). If I couldn't custom ROM a Galaxy S, I wouldn't touch one with a 10 foot pole.

I rag on Apple for everything they do poorly (and they do a whole lot very poorly) but credit where credit is due: you’re so wrong about this. What they’ve done is take an eyesore and make it invisible in most situations. This is one of the most innovative things we’ve seen out of Apple in years. Fair enough if you can’t appreciate it though.

All things considered, it's a really nifty UI trick. When it was shown I was actually very surprised with myself over how engaging it was. It'll be several years before I have a phone capable of that, if ever, but a point nonetheless for the effort put into it.

Copycats were bound to happen. The more the merrier.

Agreed. The camera button especially feels redundant when you can just swipe to access it. Surely in iOS 17 they'll "expand the customization options for the lock screen" by "allowing users to swap the two button options with a 'wide variety' of alternatives to make the lock screen their own".

"Simply stunning".

Getting rid of 3D Touch was as stupid as Apple could get. Now accidental taps are inevitable. Now consider how much battery drain those 2 options cost.

The ability to swap should have came out 3 OSes ago.

The 3 largest companies in America are software or software-centric companies.

Not because software is significant or meaningful to all aspects of life in 2022 or anything, but merely because you can do tricks with them.

Not right away! Samsung will first spend a $5 million advertising campaign to bash Apple Dynamic Island. AND THEN, they will reverse course 4 weeks later. That's what always happens. 😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
Yeah their marketing department is silly.

It’s ultimately a good thing, right? App developers have more motivation to support the design, if it can be used by several kinds of phones.

You’re right. Software is what makes an iPhone different than any other of these higher end android phones. Up until recently software was what made the Mac different than any other Windows PC. People don’t buy iPhone because of the hardware. People buy iPhone because of iOS. If you put android on an iPhone it just becomes another android phone.

Software is the user experience. You can have the best hardware but if the software experience is terrible then it’s not good. I would pick mediocre hardware with excellent software over ultimate hardware with terrible software any day. Of course there’s extreme cases on this and I’m not talking about that.
