If you want to rival Apple, define a new product category. Just creating another high-quality iPhone clone impresses nobody.
It will drastically reduce China’s foreign reserve drain every year due to the need of importing Apple products. It will also create high paying jobs in China, which will help its transition from a Middle income country to a high income country.

You need to be rich first, then worry about being rich with style~

Do Xiaomi devices “phone home” to China? I would be uneasy about using a phone by a Chinese manufacturer, even if purchased here in the USA.
No, Xiaomi and most Chinese companies handover user data control and legal matter to local subsidiaries where they officially operate. In case of Xiaomi, they are in most countries, you can pick the server region when you register your XiaoMi ID.

When they start bringing up the war metaphors, the market is mature and it’s time for smthg new to arrive.
Monopoly is the goal, when yoh have to compete aggressively, time to walk away.

Having used several Xiaomi before, both flagship & economic models, they stand no chance. Their play is short-term eye candy, decent price relation hardware / aesthetics, but subpar software support at best, both MIUI & stock android versions.

Don't get me wrong, they still sell tons, but they're light years away from the brand loyalty levels of Apple.
You have to start somewhere to get some capital before digging in and smoosh with details.

I think the new phones will be AR glasses. Pretty soon we'll be wearing our "phones" on our faces. That'll be cool when it happens.

Ah yes Xiaomi.

They opened an actual retail outlet here in the UK a while ago at Westfield. It was completely empty. No customers at all. It was labelled “Mi” as well clearly to avoid the obvious Chinese name which tends to be associated with “cheap spyware ridden android ****” here.

In contrast I went past it on the way to a battery swap appointment at the apple store. That was completely rammed to the point they were operating multiple queues depending on what you wanted to do.

Still I was in and out and had a new battery in my old 6s (my mother’s phone) in 90 minutes.

Agreed. I went to the Mi Store in Westfield, London several weeks ago and it was almost empty. Only 1-2 people inside. It was stark contrast to the Apple Store which located very close in the same mall.

BTW I went to Mi Store to try their Mi Band 6, but they don't have the stock, so they don't display the demo unit which I think quite bad for impression.

I think they're just positioning themselves, & probably with the encouragement of the Chinese Gov't, for when China makes a move on Taiwan.

At that point, Apple will (need to ?) pull out of China.

And the Chinese Gov't knows that's a possibility, & will want some local company to point to keep it's High-End consumers satisfied.

Russia & China have teamed up, that should be obvious to anyone who follows world news !

Russia will first make a play for the Ukraine, & then shortly after, China will make a play for Taiwan.

Red Storm Rising ! ...
I can’t see why it’s in Apple’s interest to pull out of China when China takes back Taiwan.

Chinese companies won't see a penny from me
So you don't buy any Apple products, TVs, electronics in general? LMAO!!!!! American, Japanese, European, and other companies have long since paid Chinese companies to manufacture items and components for them. You are definitely sending many dollars to Chinese companies.

So's Samsung's hardware but Apple sells more than an order of magnitude more iPhones than Samsung's high end Galaxy series. In 2021, Samsung sold 13.5 million Galaxy S phones. Apple sold over 200 million estimated last year.
Korea is a tiny country with little or no “buy local” support. Xiaomi has this advantage.

I would never buy a Chinese phone but if Apple has to work harder to compete I guess it's a win for me too.

This guy has been watching too much CCP propaganda and thinks he's coming off way cooler than he really is. I bet he was the kid in high school that takes gym class way too seriously.
China is attempting to take over the world. They are the richest country in the world. They hold ethnic minorities as slaves in 2022. They blatantly steal intellectual property. Their people are not allowed to do basic things like use online services or criticize their own government. They are an evil regime and I will refrain from calling you the names defending the CCP deserves.
