Wow that's incredible, I'm assuming it won't be available outside of China though? I've been waiting for Xiaomi to venture out to the west. Unlike others, I've found their quality to be outstanding. I have a MiPad 2 which I would put up next to an ipad ANY day of the week in terms of quality, build, fit/finish and function.

Hi

Good to hear you say Xiaomi quality is 'outstanding'
Xiaomi smartphones are available from aliexpress worldwide delivery.
I think you mean main dealers in other countries if so 100% agree they need to have overseas main agents in place.
ps
iPhone and iOS will ALWAYS be my main driver.

I'm curious if this has the bands to cover use in the US. I'll gladly import it if that's the case. But usually they don't work well outside of China.

ha, the live version has a thicker bezel than the photoshopped mock up does. Other than the height, it doesn't look drastically wider/having a thinner bezel as the current iPhone.

Hi
100% okay on all UK networks is my understanding. I get the impression USA networks are okay...BUT...
Do you know which 'Band' and 'MHz' your USA provider has?

I'll have to look them up, there is a website where you can plug in the phone model and it compares the bands.

On another note, this is all ceramic. I know that means it won't get scratched easily, but is that more fragile than glass? I wonder how it will hold up with a drop.

What else besides sound and microphone is more important than the screen on a phone. The future is already here, but unfortunately Apple isn't already that far.

Technology plateaued was the first excuse of the iPhone 7. Competitors are showing Apple the opposite.

Technology never plateaus! Same with the computers and iPads. Everyone is showing Apple how it can be done.
My comment wasn't regarding the technology. Someone said it is beautiful. It is a rectangular screen.

Just a note on Xiaomi smartphones if you have Norton (we have the 10 licence version Norton 3.0 approx £23.00 from amazon)
100% worth popping the antivirus on the Xiaomi to ensure there is no naughty stuff on there.
Cheers

It would be interesting to see how exactly they solved the obvious problems with having a (mostly) bezel-less device, and if they did, this could be a very innovative product.

They didn't. They simply made one, because this what the tech blog industry has decided should come next. They didn't solve anything.

Samsung is another good example of a company that doesn't try to solve problems, they make what people think they want, flaws and all, because people don't think about the flaws until its too late.

Apple instead takes the heat from what people think they want, and then deliver what they actually want, whether they know it or not.

Wireless charging is my favorite. Its anything but, and is a ridiculously poor implementation...but, they can call it wireless charging, and people think they want wireless charging. No one actually wants proprietary charging mats, or finds that to be a good experience...but hey, the box said wireless charging.

Not going to use Android for my primary device, but holy hell the technology in this phone is incredible.

Your comment make me laugh. Fast wireless charging does exist you know. As does other companies than Apple invent nice things. Why do you think half of the innards of an iPhone are Samsung technologies?
Super Amoled (Apple will be the latest to adopt), ssd, you name it... as a matter affect the whole iPhone is hightech from other companies knitted together by Apple.

5 years ago I still had the impression Apple was innovative and ahead of the pack. Today everyone is showing Aplle how it's been done, design and technology.

I still believe Apple should hire Philippe Starck in some capacity. He designed Steve Jobs' yacht and has created some beautiful objects I obsessed over at one point.

For anyone that has a Dell XPS 13, you know how good and how functional and edge to edge screen is with touch controls.

I hope all handsets move this way in the future...

That is a BEAutiful phone! If the next iPhone looks anything like that they'll have a winner! I'll have 3 upgrades when the next one comes out and will be using all 3 of them.... no matter what it looks like but if it looks anything close to that it will be great.

I agree it looks good, but I don't think it's practical. If I look at my 6S as I am typing this, the fingers that hold it wrap around the edge almost exactly to the edge of the display.
Why would I want the display to extend to potentially obscured space? It cannot really be used anyway.

Edit: talking mainly about left and right edges
Your fingers wrap around the edge of the phone when you use it? I simply grip the sides.... not sure what you're doing to "wrap" your fingers on the edges.

Um, Sharp did this back in 2014.

In a 6.4" for factor? THAT is the headline... not that it was the first edge to edge design but the first 6.4" edge to edge.

Just wow, best looking smartphone ever!

And lol :D.

Sign me up (for apple's version)...

I truly hop they go this route - more importantly, I'd rather they make the display larger and keep the same exterior dimensions (or close to them) versus shrinking down the phone and maintaining the same screen sizes. I've had a Plus for three years in some form and 5.5" is too small IMO.

"'World First' 6.4 inch phone with edgeless display."

From the article:
Xiaomi surprised at its Beijing event today by announcing the Mi Mix, the "world's first edgeless display" phone

From Global VP at Xiaomi:
Edgeless display (world’s 1st)

So it's a lie. It's not first. Sharp did it before.

Of course they do. The flesh on the fingers is soft and the edges press into it. And that's a good thing, because it increases friction. Otherwise you would need much more pressure and balance to hold it. Try holding it with wooden sticks.

See? Perfectly normal way to hold a phone.
