Rather than produce concepts, Apple produces real devices.
Yes but if nobody else was pushing the envelope, Apple would have less incentive to make their products better. How does nobody understand how competition is better for everyone?
Rather than produce concepts, Apple produces real devices.
And what does that make the Pixel then?
Or hiss gate of 7plusJust like the bend gate of the iPhone 6 right.
I experienced the same on my s7I have concerns about the edgeless concept-- after using iPhones since 2007 I was issued a Galaxy S7 from my employer (for business use) and have had repeated "palm contact" issues where simple handling causes the phone to think I am tapping things on the edges of the display. I presume that will get worse when edgeless. Yes, software can detect things like that, but no way close to all accidental contact on the periphery of the device.
Why are you bringing the pixel into this? And what does that make the Pixel then?
Huh?I honestly don't. I see it as cosmetic and not much else.
Apple's idea of edge to edge is a .75" bezel all the way around. Look no further than the Macbook.Looks beautiful. Although the quality of their phones are terrible, plus it runs android.
Looking forward to Apple's version of edge-to-edge next year![]()
As an owner of a s7 I can say the wrap around screen is of no use to me. I prefer a flat screen like on my iPhone 7 plus. Shame my plus is so damn big.The millions who've purchased the S7 Edge will disagree.![]()
Let's see how many of these they can produce in a quarter. It's easy to release stuff like this when you're not shipping in the volumes Apple and Samsung do.
Xiaomi surprised at its Beijing event today by announcing the Mi Mix, the "world's first edgeless display" phone, alongside the company's new Mi Note 2.
Designed by French designer Philippe Starck, the Mi Mix is a 6.4-inch device that features a 2040x1080 pixel, 17:9 aspect ratio borderless display that takes up 91.3 percent of the front of the handset. The only significant bezel sits at the bottom of the screen, but it doesn't have a physical button, with all the controls existing onscreen.

The all-ceramic phone uses a piezoelectric ceramic driver for the earpiece which uses the metal frame to generate sound, while the proximity sensor has been replaced by ultrasound. Both innovations are hidden under the display. The design also uses a mortise and tenon joint for attaching the display to the body, rather than glue or other adhesives.
Powering the phone is a Qualcomm Snapdragon 821 processor, with 4GB RAM for the 128GB capacity model and 6GB RAM for the 256GB model, which also features gold trim, with 18K gold accents on the camera lens and fingerprint sensor on the back.
The rear camera boasts a 16-megapixel resolution and 4K video, while the front camera is 5 megapixels. The phone is also said to have dual SIM connectivity and a 4,400mAh battery with Qualcomm Quick Charge 3.0 support.
Depicting the Mi Mix in promotional videos reminiscent of the Monolith from 2001: A Space Odyssey, Xiaomi called the device a "concept phone", and yet offered both a price and a release date. The 4GB/128GB model costs RMB 3,499 ($515) and the 6GB/256GB model is RMB 3,999 ($590), with both handsets set to launch on November 4th in China.
The phone may give us some idea of what Apple's next phone could look like. Apple has a major iPhone redesign planned for 2017, with a glass body and edge-to-edge OLED display that includes an integrated Touch ID fingerprint sensor and front-facing camera. The handset is expected to lack bezels, meaning there will be no Home button. Jony Ive is said to have wanted to introduce an iPhone that looks like a single sheet of glass for several years, and 2017 may be the year that becomes possible.

Because this isn't about a phone, it is about a tech breakthrough. Big difference.
Read the article.
But that's not the point. When people ogle over what others do and claim that Apple isn't innovative because they're not doing the same they're willfully ignoring the part about doing things at scale. I'm sure Jony Ive could have had his dream all glass iPhone years ago if Apple didn't need to produce tens of millions of them every quarter. This isn't a device Xiaomi expects to sell millions of. It's an aspirational show piece to impress the tech press.Which, to me, is a giant positive! Apple certainly can't keep up with production. It was no fun waiting 3 weeks for my 7 Plus so Apple's huge volumes are a big downer for me. I could care less that Apple sells billions of phones especially if it means delays for me. I'll take any phone I can walk in, buy, and walk out of a store with!
Yes, they do cost half as much. The reasons are almost immediately apparent when you use one.
I find this so funny... if it had anIt's not edge to edge, not even on the 3 sides. It just has a very thin bezel. It ends up looking worse than the iPhone 7's bezel because it tries for something and fails.
What else besides sound and microphone is more important than the screen on a phone. The future is already here, but unfortunately Apple isn't already that far."Best looking phone"? It is a screen.
And Apple sells 70M in one quarter during the holidays. Plus Xiaomi isn't selling 70M of this phone.
Beautiful, I wouldn't expect anything less from Starck.
I wonder if Apple will be able to create a truly full display front, that would be big.
Yes but if nobody else was pushing the envelope, Apple would have less incentive to make their products better. How does nobody understand how competition is better for everyone?
Oh you mean like when it actually works and it's just a gimmick?
I was talking to a kid I know about his phone which has wireless charging. He said it's the slowest possible way to charge the phone and the only reason he used it was because the micro-USB port broke on his phone and he rigged up a USB cable to connect the power wires directly to the wireless charging antenna to charge it faster.
Dream on! Xiaomi is already bigger in China then Apple. They will sell millions of it also into India, Europe. Its Xiaomi and other Chinese heavyweights who are responsible for Apple's downfall over there. But that's not the point. As a Xiaomi Mi4 user I don't see what you're talking about. The phone is just fine.
It's an aging flagship, yes, but it works as advertised and still looks nice with a FullHD 5" screen.
I'm running a custom ROM based on stock Android (my personal preference). The MIUI experience is very polished and Apple-like.
