Again, (for all of you that have never worked in marketing)

Xoom $699 or $799 ? Well we will find out when they become available, price keeps flip flopping. For all Best Buy knows, it could be $599.

iPad $499 to $829.

Xoom don't want 3G or GPS ? Tough tit, you're gonna pay for it.
iPad don't want 3G or GPS ? Here you go, let me knock off $130 for you.
How much storage would you like ?

Plenty of other tablet with android without 3g out there, as for storage/

They ALL have SD card slot, ipad/iphone its 100/200€ for 16/48GB extra
android: 20/80€ for 16/48GB extra.

I would say android is a lot more flexible.

Apple has one for almost anyone.
What?

Not really pricing starts at 550€? For the 3gs? Ipad at 500€ it lacks several key features some users want, only 1 release a year.

No I would say apple is very limited in that matter.

Plus with the iPad, with the exception of 3G/ GPS, you get the same experience across the board. If you buy a cheaper Andriod tablet, say the TouchFly2 for $200, you get a resistive, non multitouch touch screen, no mic, slower CPU, and lower resolution screen. A totally different user experience.

I would suggest you update your info.

Compared to the ipad of 499
You already have an archos Internet tablet 101 with :
-Android 2.2
-ARM Cortex A8 at 1 GHz with DSP
-same amount of RAM 256MB
-lower weight (480gram vs 680)
-larger display 10.1"
-Capacitive touch screen
-USB
-HDM
-g-sensor
-Front VGA camera
-7hours video playback
-SD car slot

The display itself has a lower resolution and isnt as good as the ipad are its downsides.

But this only costs 299

You're comparing a year-old product to a brand new tablet about to go on sale any week now. A fair comparison? I think not.

Why not, its both the latest what they have to offer.

When apple releases its ipad (wich I dont think is going to be a big difference then ipad 1) we will compare it with that.

Why do people still care about megapixels?!

I have seen several posts on this thread boasting about the 5 MP camera....do you seriously think that you can get that much data out of a fixed focus lens? Because here's a news flash for you, you can't. No matter how many "megapixels" it has(basically not really adding sensors, just doing a bunch of data interpolation), there are physical limitations to the amount of data that can be captured with the lens, case closed. If you are using a rear facing camera on a tablet for anything other than augmented reality apps(which really only require 1MP or so), you are doing it wrong.

Not to mention the fact that such lenses have a long shutter speed which means that in order to take any pictures that aren't total blurs you are going to have to hold your big tablet absolutely still, yeah thats practical.

All this camera does is add cost and weight all so they can justify adding another bullet point saying how much better they are than the iPad. If they are that desperate, they are clearly worried about the quality of their product.

Try viewing a 1mp photo on a 27inch iMac. It has to scale from 1024x768 (?), to 2560x1440. The contrast, light, lack of grain etc. could look perfect, but scaling it up and it'll look rubbish. However, a 3.2mp camera will almost fit the iMac's resolution, so it will not look pixelated.

Also, 720p is now a standard, so it 5mp; the 8mp and 1080p video recording stand out. (So does 3D photos, but you need a 3D no glasses display for that - and what are the chances of Apple doing that?)

Yes, I know Archos makes tablets. I just gave an example. But you validated my point. If you don't like the single Xoom offering, you have to go with a different manufacture, and you get a different user experience. As you mentioned, crappy lower resolution display.

Now you have the Adam Ink, but after watching the video of it, is it still worth buying just to get a S/D card slot?

Different user experience? Its still android so no.

Crappy lower res screen? The ipad screen is exceptional cant expect the same for almost half the price .

And I doubt the xoom will not come in different versions .

Its not as if you have any choice with the ipad? 3g and extra memeory are the ONLY choices you have there, and those are quit expensive choices.

If I hadnt already bought an ipad and would buy something new, it would be an ipad. Used the archos 101 and the creative/samsung 10 and 7" tablet and the experience is the same(archos, creative) or better (samsung) and the price lower or the same.

Fair enough. Two cameras doesn't seem "minimal" to me though. :D

Seeing all other tablets already offer that ...

Dont see a lot beyond that besides 512MB ram and better sound. Its a nice increase but a small one.

Unfortunately Apple have a habit of gently upgrading their products. This helps maximise the current gen's owners to have the perceived "need" for an upgrade, as some ppl cannot wait another year for the next drip feed.

Hopefully Apple can deliver on the iPad2, but I doubt it. Fingers crossed tho.

Yes, its still Android, but the HARDWARE is different. The only difference between $499 and $829 iPads are storage and 3G. Screen, CPU, ect are all the same. All of your Apps work the same. You can't tell me an Android tblet with a 600mhz CPU will run the same as a 1ghz CPU.

How about the Adam Ink ? Pull it out the box, turn it on, get a please update message, end up with a brick. (yea, they sent emails on how to fix.) Great user experience.

And yet people seem to be intelligent enough to understand PC's in this way.
How many people buy a netbook and then complain as they can't play Crysis on it, as Crysis runs on the same windows their netbook uses.

Or buy a mini car and them complain when it gets stuck off road, but it has 4 wheels and an engine just like other cars.

Despite what Steve Jobs thinks, not all customers are stupid and expect everything to do everything.

Hey, my macbook air does not run the programs my Power Mac does, but they still run OSX... I don't understand.

Whilst I'm sure people are a bit dim, most do realise they they need to buy the machine that suits their needs, even if it runs the same OS.

I'd be happy see see different versions of tablets, some lite ones with long life batter, other gaming ones with better graphics power.
I could then buy the one that matches my desires.
Rather then having to have some middle of the road device that does most things well, and nothing great.

Quite a few actually...

About a dozen that I know of. A few even had "four wheeled drive" vehicles, but didn't understand positraction, limited slip, or whatever you want to call it.

Despite what Steve Jobs thinks, not all customers are stupid and expect everything to do everything.

Why do you feel that way ?

I'm sure people are a bit dim, most do realise they they need to buy the machine that suits their needs, even if it runs the same OS.

But there lies the problem. Most people don't know what they want or need. They then get overwhelmed with choices. Look at the amount of crap Dell sells. They then buy an ubber expensive model and then they feel gypped or they don't buy enough, and then they get pissed. Sadly, most of these people would have been better off with a Mac Mini or its Windows equivalent and an Xbox, PS3, or Wii.

Just what people that don't know what they want need, more choices. More confusion. More BS from the manufactures.

The whole point of k995 and I conversation was you can play with your buddy's $829 iPad, go and buy yourself a $499 model, and with the exception of 3G, get the same user experience. If after playing with an $800 Xoom you decide you want a tablet, but don't want to cough up $800, you have to buy one from a different manufacture, with different hardware , possible a different version of the OS. So your user experience is a crapshoot. You may even brick your device five minutes after opening it.

iPad- Two decisions. 3G or not, then how much storage.
Xoom- One decision (well when it comes out at least) yes or no, if no, then what?

You bought an iPad, just be happy with it.

Wich doesnt mean you have to treat all your customers like idiots.

Those same people buy too expensive apple "crap" and complain.

Some people can handle that some dont, you solution dont offer a lot of choice seems you want to treat all people like potential idiots.

Motorola already announced more models AND it takes about 1 minute to find any hardware spec of a tablet so you know the experience will be the same .

Nope its still: IPAD: very limited range, android: very wide range .

And yes that means you have to take a couple of minutes and determin what is ebst for yuo, it also means you get something that fits what you want more closely.

You bought an iPad, just be happy with it.
I am, doesnt mean I dont look at what is going to replace it.

I haven't heard any news on the various releases.

You are comparing iPad to Andriod. I was referencing Xoom.

"Can't say this is any surprise, but Sanjay Jha just confirmed on Motorola's earnings call that he "sees good reason" to eventually release an entire family of tablets at "different multiple different display sizes and price points." "

AS I already predicted here.

There you go... Same product, different price points. Same user experience (because it's the same hardware). So when they come out with a couple of versions of Xoom, people that don't want 3G and don't want to spend the extra $130 for that unwanted feature, will STILL be able to buy a Xoom, and not a competitors product.

But yea, there are always people who will NEVER be happy.
