No matter how dedicated you are to Apple products, and I love my iPad, there is serious competition heading our way. Jobs will either have un-tether the iPad and stop restricting it with iTunes and a lack of things like a simple SD slot or he will loose his market share.

The competition is directly targeting what iPad users are not getting with their iPads. The iPad2 is noting but a warm over if the first version. You watch what happens in the next year and you will see Apple letting the iPad 3 have much more freedom.

Still using iTunes ? That's so 1990's. Yes, for updates, File Browser and Drop Box everything else.

I see another banner year for Apple. iPad is a runaway freight train, and most of the "competitors" don't understand why the iPad is successful. Xoom will flop.

What is it that users are not getting from their iPads ? Flash ? 160 million iOS devices don't/didn't (some devices have been retired) do Flash. Come on, tell me what the hell is so important that the iPad is missing that will persuade me to buy a Xoom and shelf my iPad ?

You need to look at why the iPad is successful and mimic that, not just try to throw a bunch of 'features' together to dear this train.

Read some of the Android forums, most of the people there diss the Xoom.

Android Police included. 3G/4G isn't really necessary on a tablet either...

Sources ? Which Android forums are you referring to where "most" people diss the Xoom?

Mission Accomplished!

1) A decent GUI?
2) A SD slot?
3) More Ram? More Resolution
4) BT Headset Support?
5) Flash?
6) Access to files?

Nothing is going to convince you to buy a Xoom, but you better hope Apple doesnt underestimate the competition like you do hehe

Huh? Tell that to all the ipad 3G owners? If 3g is good I bet 4G will be better !! (Actually I know it will be as Ive been tethering my ipad to an Evo for quite a while)

If you already have a smartphone that allows tethering/ has wireless hotspot capabilities, then the extra cash for a 3G radio isn't really worth it, which is why Apple makes two different variations. The Xoom won't at launch.

Maybe not at launch, but a wifi version is claimed to be inc. very soon after, that is... if sources are to be believed. Moto would be mad not to.

I haven't heard them dissing the device. They've mostly was down on the price of it or that the wifi model should have been released 1st.

Wow, I'm sure glad you don't work for Apple. Of course with the way you think, they would toss you out on your ear in about two seconds. :D

Android Police is one site whose dissed it, preferring the Toshiba tablet instead.

Why did they choose the Toshiba one instead? I think the spec's are the same pretty much. The Toshiba has a replaceable battery. So is it just the looks?

1) A decent GUI?

Opinion. What makes iPad GUI not decent and Androids decent ?

2) A SD slot?

Camera connection kit. Which I don't have because I have File Browser.

3) More Ram? More Resolution

Still 1st gen, 2nd gen due soon. Same could have been said of the Vic 20, then you got the C64, then the 128.

4) BT Headset Support?

I have no need for that, however I understand that others may. So I'll give you that one. It is pretty dumb to have BT and then dumb it down.

5) Flash?

Lack of Flash is a feature. That has been hit on ad nauseam in other threads.

6) Access to files?

I can access my files. If you are talking about being able to attach SOME file types to email messages well yes, I see the problem.

Nothing is going to convince you to buy a Xoom, but you better hope Apple doesnt underestimate the competition like you do hehe

You are half correct. Nothing is going to convince me to buy a Xoom. But neither I nor Apple is underestimating the competition.

For y'all that want links, here is another one.

I think that $799 price is going to back people off. That's a lot to be asking with no other options. You'll pick up your fan boys but you won't get too many casual consumers at that price.

$800(Xoom) +$80(tax) +($36)activation +($20)1st month data plan +($$)accessories

That add's up quick I'm not willing to be 1st at that price
They really need another entry model at a lower price level. Yes the price is close to a similar spec'd iPad but that model isn't the best selling iPad eitherh

Maybe a little, but they were complaining about how it wouldn't have Wi-Fi at launch, and how Motorola was wasting money on 'useless' tech (3G/4G radios) because most of us already have phones that create mobile hotspots. Something like that. If you really want me to, I can give you the source link.

Sure post it up.

So I guess the Toshiba is a wifi only model.

I don't see anything wrong with having a 3G/4G model but Moto needs to have a wifi only model to compete and for those who don't want a model with a cellular radio.

I'd be interested in seeing pricing and when the Toshiba plans to be released. The Toshiba looks nice but I don't like that chrome around the camera.

^ I don't care much for the chrome either. Anyway, on Twitter, they wrote "Toshiba won't waste money on useless 3G/4G tech & the tablet will come with WiFi only. I'm pretty sure it will be several hundred $ cheaper." They also wrote a post on their website (don't forget to read the comments!).

Opinion. What makes iPad GUI not decent and Androids decent ?
How about change the brightness, turn of wifi/bluetooth? I had to jailbreak and install sbsettings and other cydia only apps to fill in some of the glaring gaps apple has left in its gui.

Camera connection kit. Which I don't have because I have File Browser.
Yeah an expensive add on isnt really the way to go.

So? 256 is too little for the ipad, they knew it they still only gave it that. No doubt the next version will come with 512 . The main difference is that the iphone4 was released with 512MB only shortly after the ipad . vic20->c64 is 1.5 years->c128 was 3 years here it wasnt even 3 months.

Yep

Lack of Flash is a feature. That has been hit on ad nauseam in other threads.
feature? Dont believe the apple pr BS, it limits the ipad. Its a design choice more out of market and profit protection then anything else.

I can access my files. If you are talking about being able to attach SOME file types to email messages well yes, I see the problem.
Not just that, going trough itunes or having to setup webserver to copy some files is just a pita .

Just like when Android was released two years ago and you probably made the same statement. Today Canalys relased the Q4 2010 smartphone marketshare and showed Android is outselling iPhone 2 to 1. To think that Xoom or other Honeycomb tablets will flop because iPad is successful is simply idiotic.

The only people dissing Xoom on Android forums are Apple fanboys like you.;)

Much of this has been due to carrier limitations, budget prices, and buy one - get one, and you know it.

Soon we'll get to see Droid try to compete at the high end without the carrier issue, and outside Apple haters, who will buy one?

What, 100 different models of tablets using various OS about to release? Can any of them do well once they carve up the non-iPad market?

AT&T is selling iPhone 3GS for $49. That't cheaper than Droid's buy one get one free. Your point is?

The audacity of Motorola in this Superbowl commercial is unreal.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ndhuEUX1kIU

This is the same company which locks bootloaders on their Android phones in an attempt to stifle the community who provide custom ROMs (and in turn, software upgrades or enhancements) for their phones.

"It's time to live a free life". Yes it is Motorola, when you stop crippling your devices.
