Apple just needs to buy Yahoo, sever its ties with Microsoft/Bing, and use the existing team to create its own search engine.

Yeah! That's a great idea! Then we can have another Google on our hands and be afraid of doing anything with it lest our entire lives be constantly under the microscope!

Hell No I always hated Yahoo Search. Remember Microsoft is still the enemy

Please for all the that is right in the world Hell no.
Even folks at Yahoo! use google for their searches.
I never ever like Yahoo Search.
or bing for that matter.

Please who ever comes up with these stupid ass ideas should be fired.
Because anyone can still easily change what their default search engine is, even today? Yeah...

This is hilarious. We have people bragging that they won't hire anyone who has an Android phone and that they'd rather die than have a gmail account, and Android = "cheap" and Google is the epitome of evil, but the actual thought of being without Google on iOS? "No! Please! Never!!!"

Screw Yahoo. I had to delete all of my Yahoo email accounts because it kept sending spam to my address book.

It's that one is the worse of two evils....

That's because search is something Google does well. And maps.

I do not like yahoo at all. The only thing I use it for is reading the news sometimes I don't even have an account for yahoo. That thing at the bottom of the notification center bothers me becuase I want nothing to do with yahoo or see yahoo. I would not mind a google logo down there though. I really like google and use it all the time and would not switch search engines for anything. Please no yahoo.

Not if you start from scratch...do you really want Google in your life that much?

It's time to let go of the paranoia.

The calendar tells us it's 2014, data collection is a part of life. Apple is collecting just like everyone else.

If not for Google and all their creativity, things would be far less advanced. They've done a lot for all of us.

After a rocky start, I'd say perfectly fine.

Only Apple knows but I'd bet the majority of iOS users use Apple Maps. I know I do - they generally get me where I'm going and are easy to use. I drive places so the other stuff (transit and walking) are not priorities for me. Traffic is also quite good too.

been using Apple maps since beta with no issues. I would maps worked out fine.

Sorry for the confusion. I was referring to the "Don't Track Me Google" extension. I didn't think that many people used that extension. Without it, Google injects its own tracking URL with every click.

It is the "Don't Track Me Google" extension that makes google usable, IMO.
Ah. Reading comprehension problem, apparently. Yeah I use that one as well. I also use a VPN on my phone.

I like Yahoo a lot more than Google. Yahoo has been my e-mail provider ever since I started browsing the web. I still use them for that. I’ve also used several search engines and found Bing and Yahoo Search to be quite capable.

These negotiations are simply about the system default. You can continue to use Google.

So it's not that there's a logo that bothers you, but which logo it is? How is that meaningful really?

As for using Google, you can still select to use it no matter what search engine is set as default.

Make it happen Tim and Marissa! I've been waiting for Yahoo to be the default for all pertinent services on iOS and OS X for a long time.

And no this is not a sarcastic post. Google and MS both have their own platforms powered by their own hardware and services. Apple and Yahoo aligning together makes perfect business sense to me in order to compete with the other big two.

And people just love to freak about news like this too. No one is deciding to take away your options. Just emphasizing one over the other as default. If you don't like it, just set it in settings. Done.

I also agree with the posts that say Apple should just buy Yahoo.

I have tried all three, Google, Yahoo, and Bing in the last 5 years. Bing has pulled to neck n neck w Google on 99% of my search, with Yahoo still behind, though not by any degree of irrelevance. Keep at it Yahoo. You might have a future marrying into Apple ecosystem.

I think buying Yahoo would be a big waste of money for Apple. Apple is too smart to purchase a company that is years past its prime.

I am hoping that Yahoo! can revive itself and provide a good search engine for Apple to use.

Google and Microsoft are the big players in search right now, so I think it's time a third company shakes things up. Imagine what the US mobile phone market would be like if Verizon and AT&T were the only relevant service providers.

I know that I can still use google I just don't want apple to talk to yahoo cuz I do not want this to ever become something more.
