Screenshots don’t show anything. You need to take a photo of the screens.

Really don’t get why this is such a common misconception

That’s always been the case with screenshots forever on any device. Alas

Edit- I guess I get it. You look at the screenshot on your own screen and think it’s a good representation since that’s what you see. Still

Is it worth waiting a couple of months before trying again? Every iPhone I bought on launch day since the XS and then later returned had a yellow screen when compared to other phones and devices in my household.

FFS Apple, I'm really tired of using Android and would love to move back to iOS, you're just not letting me!

I would say maybe. I had a yellowish XS on launch and after one year new one by Apple cause of a guarantee case.
The 2nd XS is fantastic and not a bit yellowish.

You will get different opinions but I don’t think waiting a few months will make any difference lottery wise

Check this video out at 01:47.5 into the video and then at 01:52 for the test. Everything else in the video had deep blacks on the 12 Pro.

How are you getting HDR to trigger on the 12 Pro on the YouTube app? Is it when it shows 2160p60? I know on my LG C9 it shows in the top right when its HDR or DV but now sure how to tell in the YouTube app on the phone?

I think you just run it in safari

Look at this screenshot. The whites are so vivid on this iPhone 12. I’m holding off until there is consistency. There are just so many “warmer” or “yellow” screen comments. I hope this isn’t widespread, but this is already 13 pages in.

I just realized I haven’t been able to. It’ll show up as 1440P/60 HDR. Only the Xs Max shows this. Still, the actual quality of the panel isn’t great compared to my Xs Max.

Gotcha, I think the system needs to be updated to work correctly with the new phone for some reason.

Can you really tell a difference between quality of the panel? I’m coming from an 11 Pro and I think it looks on par if not better than the 11 Pro did.

My 12 pro is JUST barely warmer than my 11 Pro which was warmer than my XS which was definitely warmer than my X was. It seems we are for sure going to a warmer screen all around. I may have lucked out though, my panel is great and whites look awesome. Same with my wife’s 12 Pro, Hers is a hair warmer than mine but she turns off True Tone and it’s crisp and white.

Ambient lighting conditions seem to affect the colour temp of the panels as well. My 12 Pro looked warmer outside this afternoon than it did when I got home with lights on in the house. Screen brightness was about the same in both situations.

From my Xs Max yes, but my wife’s Xs is pretty similar. Yes, Anandtech has shown that color temperature changing like you said.

Talking about the 11 Pro here. “In the greyscale tests, all the iPhones perform extremely well, as expected. The Pro models do showcase a tendency to have slightly too strong red levels, so their color temperature is ever so slightly too warm. This characteristic diminishes the higher in brightness we go on the Pro models. The iPhone 11 has a weakness in the greens, so its color temperature is above the 6500K white point target.”

I went through this last year with several 11 Pros and noticed it right away again on my new 12 Pro. It's most noticeable in the first two pictures, especially the second where the colors don't even look the same. Unfortunately, Apple support wasn't really offering any warranty exchange options and even though I'm within the return period I would have to wait 3-4 weeks for a new one and I don't feel like doing that.

I switched from an iPhone X to the iPhone 12 Pro and also noticed a yellow tint. I also compared it to my company iPhone 8, iPad Pro (2020) and Apple Watch (5. Gen). All of these devices do look colder / more blueish. I went to a local market and compared it to an iPhone 12 and 12 Pro and both of the display units looked even slightly warmer than mine.
Today I also compared it to the 12 Pro of a friend and his is also a little bit warmer than mine.
Of course I compared all of them with True Tone, Night Shift and auto brightness off at 100% brightness. What really bugs me is the colder display of the iPad Pro. If I switch from iPhone to the iPad or vice versa, I realize that there is a difference...
Still thinking about keeping it since I don‘t want to exchange it several times and it may be even worse.

Is anyone on the 14.2 beta? I Just updated to it and could swear my yellow tint seems to be resolved and truetone is not near as harsh a change as it was before. iPhone 12 I got on Friday coming from the XR the yellow was very noticeable to me and I felt the screen seemed washed out. I’ve had beta 4 or 14.2 for about an hour now and I’m 99% sure right away noticed a difference across colour tint, truetone harshness and overall brightness of the screen. Most importantly white actually looks white and even on these forums in dark mode the grey was a horrible khaki shade before.

It could well be colour calibration in the OS that was resolved in 14.2?

My day one 12 Pro was extremely yellow. Returned it to an Apple Store today in exchange for another identical model. The new one is much better and less noticeable than the first, but it does still have a warm tint when compared to my iPad Pro.

How did you return it? Did you cancel your order and buy a new one or did they replace it within warranty? Just curious what I should do with mine.

And did you take photos of the screens? Would be interesting to compare.

I thought about this as well but I can't justify keeping something that costs $1,100 and not be 100% satisfied with it.

Well you’re not wrong with that. I think I’ll call the apple support line - not really hoping for a solution but I’m gonna give it a try

I also thought about a bug fix with an iOS update. But I think the chances are very low to this as Apple needs to be aware of the problem. And I think 13 pages on MacRumors are not enough for this. In my opinion it needs something like an “#Yellowgate” to really recognize it as a problem (...but you never know :) )

my iPhone 12 Pro seemed slightly lower contrast and slightly more yellow than I would hope.
I just went to the apple store to check and their phones look great. I compared to two 12 Pro store phones and the apple employee agreed he could also see the difference. He pulled his 12 pro phone out and it was better than mine but not as good as the two store phones. Having seen how nice the store screens look I think I have to return now. Hopefully in a week or so when they re stock I can get one like the store phones. If what the op said is true maybe the restock will be made to a higher tolerance.
The apple guy said the demo phones come from the same stock as the ones they sell so was luck of the draw. Seems I just had bad luck.

(the off axis colour and brightness shift is also much much worse on my 12 pro vs my 11 pro. Unfortunately I didn’t check that in the apple store so I don’t know if that is something every 12 pro has or if it’s just mine)

I wouldn’t be too sure in that. Given Apple employees will have had these devices well before we did.
