Going to cancel the repair and return it. If i order it from Best Buy I can have a new one by Tuesday.

I don't have the luxury of simpliy going to an Apple store. Closest store in over an hour away.

I played around with the color filters this morning and adjusted the 12 Pro in a way that it is very close to my iPad Pro and MacBook. I’m content with the change in tint through the filters therefore I think I’ll just keep mine vs doing an exchange.

I'm glad it worked out. Yeah, the filters do well as long as the screen wasn't actually defective. Unfortunately, my first one was and the Apple store pointed out a few other issues with it I didn't notice. My second one was still yellow but since I used color filter, it's been perfect.

What issues did you have with your screen?

They ran the test and it had spots where the color was completely different. Like parts of the screen were dim, the top and bottom were of a different warmness. I only noticed that the colors appeared off even with color filters applied. They gave me another one within minutes.

Here’s the old thread where the guy went through nearly 20 iPhones. If you’re bored, have a look haha.

I’m quite intolerant of piss yellow screens. I have to say many of the examples of 12/12 Pro posted in this thread look pretty good and would never bother me, really nitpicking. Nothing like the bad OLEDs from the days of the X and XS. I went through several that had pink hue on one half and piss yellow on the other half. QC seems to be better so far, finally, with many of the 12s.

Keep in mind you could end up with a worse screen than what you returned / exchanged, or could have dead pixels, and would be stuck in return / exchange hell. Been there, not fun.

The best AMOLED display I’ve ever seen so far was my Xs Max. I use a specific HDR video in two instances where these AMOLED’s struggle and was pretty disappointed in my new 12 Pro. My wife’s Xs was pretty similar to the 12 Pro in both scenes but still better than this.

Any thoughts?

I'd be pissed. Straight up.

The top one isn't even 'infinite black' or true black with pixels shut off that's characteristic of OLED's in the first pic. Mine looks NOTHING like this with content. Heck, even my good panel SE2 I think would render blacks deeper than that which is of course LED.

I really wonder if this is a multiple manufacturer fiasco or QC.

Dear lord,

for someone who wanted to see how my 12 Pro fares against an LED iPhone: SE2 vs. 12 Pro 100% brightness, TT off, auto brightness off.

This is still a more accurate depiction of my 12 Pro (the link below) , since this comparison photo seems to show some 'pink bias' whereas my eyes aren't seeing it whatsoever but still. For 'science' lol

Major relief I can dodge these bullets this go round. Good incentive to not do an upgrade, finances and inconvenience of migration aside.

its still REALLY hard to capture these OLED's on camera. I would say the off axis is actually like approaching as accurate as the linked post that's potato quality zoomed out lol

(ignore glass screen protector rainbow'y portions)

Dear lord,

left to right for someone who wanted to see how my 12 Pro fares against an LED iPhone, I got two for reference.
SE2 (mine), 11 non pro (friends -- holy moly would've loved to compare my clean XR to this for fun too if I still had it), 12 Pro (mine)

Happy to oblige for some more reference photos

I see exactly what you're referring to at those timestamps of not being perfect black.

Still, the blacks at these moments are fantastic on my 12 Pro and nothing like yours. The slight pixelation I would chalk up to being my SE2 camera capturing it in the dark too.

Maybe I should play the actual lottery lol

Dang, was that at max brightness, True Tone off, and the ambient light sensor de activated?

Seems for me , turning off auto brightness in accessibility makes the colours look far more natural on the 12P and comparable to the 11(non pro)

Or, leave auto brightness on and set brightness to Max.

So is it a bug or a flaw of oled?

With auto brightness on it’s really muddy

12Pro left, 11 middle, iPad Pro underneath.

Auto brightness on, True Tone on, night shift off.

The middle one had night shift on.

Coming from an X that I always kept True Tone on, the 12 Pro is significantly warmer when both have TT on, especially under artificial light. I noticed it right away. With TT off on the 12 Pro though, it’s very blue. Almost too blue for me. Whites look light blue to me.

TT seems very sensitive and changes significantly with the lighting on the 12 Pro. Much more than it did on the X.

When I toggle TT on the 2020 iPad Pro, the screen barely changes. With Pro 12, it is drastic. My iPad Pro screen seems redder than the 12 pro. Idk, I guess every screen is different.

I’m already liking the 12 pro with TT on even though it’s a lot warmer than I’m used to. If I turn it off, it’s super blue. No real middle ground. The screen is completely uniform at least

Good catch, removed the 11 part of the comparison. Will have to re-shoot next time I hang out with my friend

Thought it was wildly off for some reason. Always think to look for TT not night shift tho (didnt know anyone used that on a time coordinated basis, not even sure she knew it was on haha)

Those were all correct but auto brightness. Holy crap does auto brightness off make things piercingly bright, dont think I'll ever be using that for my eyes or battery haha

Here's it captured again with it off ... as best I can still nothing like yours with that color tinged hue. Its not black to my eyes, and more faded, but I see no obvious color bias in the green photo in particular. Ignore the fidelity pixelation / grid, not sure why the camera is making it look like that my eyes aren't seeing it at all.

I think I got the goldy locks / Willy Wonka golden ticket of displays

This video is really sweet by the way - these timestamps aside :p

@Jetcat3 your greens look blown out color wise too. I would expect the picture to look more faded at max brightness because of the panel’s capability for peak brightness but the color looks off too on your pictures

That’s my favorite video to “show off” these screens. Looked great on my XSMax, looks gorgeous on my 12 Pro.

I'm really enjoying Soul trailer on Trailers app too

lots of great pop-out scenes contrasting with the perfect blacks throughout half of it, and really vibrant for the rest

Me and @kre62 been going through this since 2010. My 12 pro graphite came with stupid scratches right out the box but the screen is so nice and blue tinted compared to my 11 pro. Keeping the 12 pro. The iPhone lottery is so damn stressful

I recall this name too

Glad you won (relatively speaking)

Maybe my XS was a bit too blue, especially w/o True Tone, but I always uses with TT on and this phone was perfect.

TT on iPhone 12 is so damn yellow, I hate it. TT off is ok. I am still testing around.

Apple Panel Quality kinda sucks.

How are you guys just swapping the out so easy? Don't you need an appoinment? I called Apple about my screen and they said the next available appointment is Friday, which I cannot do, or return by mail and wait to see if the can repair it or give me a new one.
If you are within the 14 day return window, always return the phone and buy a new one. Never allow Apple to take the phone and try and repair it.
