Ok honestly how many of you guys have had a chance to enjoy the phone rather than stress over the screen over the past week?
Mine was so apparently off that using it wasn’t enjoyable at all as everything looked muddy and beige. Confirmed at the Apple store that it was both dimmer and yellower than the display models (which I thought looked great). I don’t think a good screen is too much to ask for when you spend $1200 on a phone.

Not gonna lie... not stressing over the screen of your new 1150€ phone can be a bit hard if it looks vastly inferior to the 11’s low-res LCD right next to it...
Yeah I have missed my XR last week I hope the replacement coming this week is better. I’ve also been getting eye strain which I hope is just adjusting to the popping colours of OLED and the fact I’ve used it a lot more with it being new. I don’t want to get a new perfect replacement to find out I’m no good with OLED phones and wind up back with an XR or 11. I have an OLED TV though and it’s not an issue but I do remember a week or so adjusting to it with sore eyes sensitive to some of the bright highlights.

Sorry I missed it. Why are you comparing two different technologies? Apple says in their literature that there is color shift with all the super XDR displays and that it’s inherent in the nature of OLED. LCD doesn’t have that. But you keep drawing this comparison so catch me up on why you’re doing it
Because like millions of other people this is my first OLED iPhone. I’m going to compare it against my other iPhones and my iPad pro And discuss my thoughts etc. If you dont like this forum topic you dont need to participate. Caught up enough for ya?

All right all right don’t get your panties in a bunch.

Just returned from the Apple Store and 2 retailers. Again I saw about 10 different phones and every single one of them had the same yellow tint compared to my X. This is to reiterate at the Apple store and two different retailers. It’s been over a week since the phones launched in Australia, so I’m not sure what @kre62 is saying about them swapping out bad displays.

It seems a warmer display is what they wanted from the 12s and it is not a defect. I just wish Apple would add a colour temp / white balance slider like
Samsung does so everyone can be happy.

10 years of perfect display phones. Doesn't matter if its a conspiracy or not, display phones always end up perfect. Not baseless at all to claim that display phones are both good examples of what a good screen should look like, and an excellent thing to compare your phone to to determine if yours is not within spec.

One or two did that, and maybe they walked away thinking their phone is fine after all. See how that works?

Thanks for checking! Guess that settles that.

Walked into my local good guys Saturday morning and walked out with this, 12 Black.

Is it the True Tone on OLED that makes it look more yellow? It’s not bothering me as mine doesn’t seem to be that bad but was more yellow than my old 8+. I’ve got nothing to compare mine to now anyway as I’ve sold my old iPhone lol. I’ve been reading the threads on how much better OLED is than LCD here for years and can’t say I’m particularly blown away now I’ve got my first OLED iPhone. I’ve always said it wouldn’t bother me what type of screen I use and that opinion hasn’t changed to be honest.

Compare a LG OLED TV to a good non-OLED TV and you see the difference.
iPhone 12 OLED is kinda bad in some ways imo.

I’ve seen the difference on televisions, not that I’d invest in an OLED TV personally. The screen is decent on my iPhone 12, just not the massive difference I’ve seen others saying about for the past 3 years.

My replacement 12 is due tomorrow I will try and take a photo of both together if I can and if they look different. Might need to picture them seperately since it will be the only 2 phones I will have.

I bought a 12 Pro on release day as well, and just wasn't happy with the display, but couldn't put my finger on what was wrong. It wasn't till I had a reason to start up my old XS Max and has the two side by side that it really showed the issue with the yellow tint on the new 12 Pro.

I took the phone back to the Apple store yesterday, and the very helpful assistant got another 12 Pro out to compare with mine, and hers was even worse. She then got another, and that was the same as mine, but neither were as good as my old XS Max. They didn't have any phones in stock to replace my 12, so I just returned it and got a refund. So back to using my old XS for the moment.

There is definitely a problem out there with new 12 Pro devices and if you have one, it is worth comparing with another phone if you can. Set the the display to Light, the same brightness level and True Tone on and the Wight will have a yellow/dirty tint to it.

Would be great to see the differences.

Reading another person's experience, very similar to mine, of going to different stores over a week after launch to compare the display phones and surprised that floor models are the same or worse (across the board) made me think further about this. In prior years, even though this has happened, you always see good displays at the store. Now it looks like finding a good display is the exception.

Could this year's issue be exacerbated by the application of the "ceramic shield" layer over the display? Maybe Foxconn has not mastered the process, or were careless in its application in order to meet shipment demands?

Your conclusion is flawed. Plenty of people on this forum have gotten a non yellow screen, so "a warmer screen is what they wanted" is a baseless claim based on one experience.

Further, we don't even know if the display phones you saw were really this issue, or if you compared to another known good phone.

It could also be that more display phones have this issue this year, but we've also seen a lot of display phones without it. So maybe the issue is bigger than usual this year, and even display phones are affected. Still doesn't prove a yellow 12 is "intentional". It isn't. Apple has confirmed themselves that the calibration should match last years model.

So right now, correct calibration, non yellow screens do exist. Yellow is still a defect and not intentional. And it's a bit harder to get a non yellow screen right now.

Bro... I’ve compared my 12 pro to my X and Xs and it looks really yellow in comparison. This is the reason I checked it against over 20 different display units. They all have the same yellow tint. Which leads me to the fairly safe conclusion that they’re all like this. To call my conclusion baseless makes you sound like you’re just trying to incite drama. And just to be clear: I’m not at all a fan of the yellower tone.

Furthermore, since my retailer doesn’t have a good repair process, I also asked the Genius Bar to replace the screen. They couldn’t help me because my current screen was “too similar to the other 12s they compared with”. Further suggesting that they are all yellow like that.
