You cannot post a single photo of your phone expecting a reliable opinion. White can look bluer or yellower depending on:

1. Other devices it is compared to
2. The camera that took the photo
3. The lighting condition where the photo was taken

You need to compare it to something reliable. I personally found the 12 Pro that I got to be much yellower than my OnePlus 5T, my iMac, my work's MacBook Pro, hence I concluded that the screen is yellow.

If your iPhone 12 is your only device, then you probably shouldn't be looking at this thread.

lol, its actually better than my 11 pro, i backed up from iCloud and settings are exactly the same, might buy a lotto ticket for tonight :)
It was a gamble as i bought from a local electronics retail store so would of been a nightmare to swap.

Well, I decided to return my iPhone 12 pro to the apple store today. They were very friendly and took it back even though I didn’t have the box.

I just couldn’t stand the yellow tint at all, it was awful. Putting it next to my iPhone 11 it looked like it had been in a smokers house for 50 years. Also it was too small, I definitely need the max size.

I just hope I’m lucky again and will be in the first batch for pro max preorders 😆

To all: Please don‘t check yellow thing alone.

If you like to use Dark mode or watch some Youtube in bed, check „black“-color too:
- download a full black wallpaper
- set brightness so minimum
- use it in a dark room

You can see the backlight shining. That‘s not what OLED is meant to be.

You have to be one of the hardest fanboys if you own a 11 Pro or XS and keep an iPhone 12 with these two issues.

you guys sure you don't have true tone on that might be casing the yellow tint ?

No, you can't. Because OLED-displays don't have any backlight. The black is also not affected by the brightness level due to this reason.
I know this fact, maybe I wrote it incorrect.
Pixels are shining, they are not off on low brightness black background!!!

He’s right. He know’s how OLED works. There is a software bug or panel issue on the 12 series causing raised blacks. I can easily replicate it on three devices.

Same here, if you have the brightness on low, and show a black photo full screen, you can see it glowing.
Ifyou put the brightness on max(or anywhere above 10%?) , the pixels turn off.

If I had to guess I’d say it’s doing some kind of auto-contrast at low brightness

Agreed, I’m hoping it’s intentional. Blacks are also generally raised at higher brightness too, e.g on the borders around a photo in dark mode when using the photos app. Pixels not off.

Hmm mine appears to be true black at low brightness levels, just checked using apples black wallpaper so the entire screen wasn’t black, clock and date on top in white text. Regular 12 and 12 pro both pure black.

Which IOS version?

I’m now on iOS 14.2GM and the issue appears to be fixed and the pixels do turn off at low brightness.

14.2 GM didn’t fix it for me.

the black wallpaper the other poster describes is pure black, due to contrast elements on screen. Needs to be full black at min brightness.

iPhone 12 pro happened to be on 14.2 GM and 12 on 14.1, both showed true blacks to my eyes. However the 12 had a better display out of the box than the 12 pro.

I happened to find another store in the city with inventory of a graphite 12 pro, I will be returning the 12 and picking that up and choosing between the better display between the two 12 pro's.

And that will be it for my saga lol if both displays look bad I may go the route of returning both and keeping the 11 pro. But I feel good coming down this decision tree and arriving at this final step lol, thanks everyone in this thread for the feedback.

BTW in regards to contacting apple for an expedited replacement unit, I talked to chat support last night and they only offered to connect me with a sales specialist this morning to attempt to buy a new unit. Did not offer any sort of warranty replacement device. They opened a ticket with the issue 'loose display' but being that I found local stock I will go ahead and try a new out of box unit.

OK, wish everyone else luck

I've been following this thread with interest as my iPhone 12 pro screen was very disappointing compared against my Pixel 3XL and iPad Pro 2019 (both of which were very close in color temperature, saturation, contrast, etc.). Happy to report that upgrading to 14.2 GM completely fixed the color...it now tracks pretty closely with the iPad in different lighting conditions with TrueTone on (which is an important feature to me so I wasn't about to settle with turning it off to get rid of the overly yellow tint).

It's still not quite as contrasty as I would like but I can live with it.

Side note - iOS sure has improved in the 4 years I've been away!

Did an exchange on my iPhone yesterday, new model is much closer to what I expect. Doesn’t match my iPad Pro perfectly but it’s much better.

Also traded in my old iPhone and the employee did the trade in wrong, so I got the $250 but not the extra $150 that T-Mobile is doing via promo right now. To remedy it they brought me on a shopping spree throughout the store to pick whatever I wanted. Ended up walking out with $260 worth of apple gear on them. Everyone was super nice and the whole experience was really fun. Apple just got themselves a lifelong customer.

I would say Apple support is fantastic and something a lot of other companies could learn from. I’ve had multiple devices swapped out for brand new ones for something when nearly a full year into the warranty. The speaker on my iPhone 7 Plus was crackling at the earpiece when loud and instead of replacing the screen the store employee just replaced the device which was great since mine was jet black and had loads of micro scratches that annoyed me from using it before I put a case on. Also had an overheating device due to a faulty battery with my 6 and they replaced the device instead of just the battery.
There is always issues with devices bought right on launch but Apple has always been much better than other manufacturers I’ve dealt with apart from maybe Dyson, they are also on par with customer support for the same reasons.

They really do! I’ve never even had a remotely bad experience with Apple. One of the biggest reasons I have switched all my devices over to them.

Can I try 14.2 GM even if I send the phone back to Apple? Is it possible to go down to 14.1 again from GM?

I would like to give it a try and share your experience. Thanks.

You can, just make sure you backup to your Mac first so you can restore.
