An option for those with a yellow screen that don't want to go through the return/replace process with the hopes of getting a better display can follow the steps on the following link to see if it is of any help:

Wow. I can’t thank you enough. I finally got the crisp white that I like on my 8 plus. It now matches the white on my 6 plus that I always preferred.

Why doesn’t everyone follow this advice right here instead of returning phone?
It causes brightness and potentially contrast issues. It's a filter, what Apple needs to do is add a real color temperature setting.

Regardless, it's an acceptable solution since most people don't really notice those issues anyway. As long as the screen looks better to their eyes.

Well I’m now on my 2nd 12 pro both from week 40 production, the first one received on release day suffered from a strong yellow tint tried following that advice but it didn’t help much and the color profile was pretty off even after adjustments. This current one received on Friday 11/6 is marginally better without color tint and with it on is something that I could reluctantly deal with. However the replacement also has significant issues with raised blacks and flickering induced by dark content. Purchase was initiated through T-Mobile, they told me earlier to reach out to Apple support with a referral before jumping into another return. Doubt I’ll get anywhere with them for a resolution but at least I’ll be another case to add traction on this matter.

Wow that’s crazy. I believe you and the issue you’re explaining. I wonder if apple could fix the issue with a software update or is this a hardware problem only?

I just received a replacement iPhone 12 after Apple Store staff agreed my first one was indeed yellow and less bright/vibrant when compared to display model and my iPhone XS. Due to Covid you have to book an Apple store appointment so it took a few days to even get an appointment And then they didn’t have any stock left to exchange it. Online ordered a new one and delivered today and it’s worse. Every display model I saw is great but so far my two no good. Can’t get an appointment for a day or two to try again but even then I’m not hopeful. Was thinking to ditch it altogether and see if the mini is better quality. Apple store said they have had many returns like this but Apple support said they don’t know anything about it when I called them for help.

So sharing also my story, I bought my iPhone 12 pro from a retailer, and since then I ve noticed the yellow tint. I tried to return it but when they compared it to other iPhones there was no difference. So I went to Apple, went to support who run a diagnostics and of course no issues found. I compared it to phones in the store, screen were very similar.... I was also informed that Apple has 3 providers for screens and any difference might be related to that... hence I was kinda kicked out.
I contacted Apple again to complain who then told me to contact the retailer again...
What am I supposed to do? Am thinking to sell this phone...
Edit- main problem is that I don’t seem to be able to find a phone that does not have this problem... so they just say no it’s not yellow

If it is to any help, I have become satified with mine. It doesn't look yellow anymore. Don't know if it just me or it has changed. Used to adjust with color filters, but actually think it is better now without. True tone is still too yellow for me though, so I don't use that (yet). Another tip I found to make the display look more vibrant is to use the blue/yellow filter. But I also don't feel that is needed.

As a testament to how your eyes adjust over time and how there's an adjustment period - I'm now a week+ in with my latest 12 (and no I didn't replace because of the screen). I've had it as my daily driver with my Xr close by for the occasional comparison. The Xr is, as previously discussed, noticeably cooler, with the whites seemingly a more "pure" white.

Within the last couple of days I've noticed a change. When I pull out my Xr, suddenly it doesn't look better any more, it looks more pink and less accurate than it did the first few days when my eyes thought it was whiter and more accurate than the 12. Now the 12's whites look better, even when True Tone is kicking in hard. And I can assure you, nothing magical happened to either screen in that timeframe.

I know the original problem mentioned here had to do with it being yellow with True Tone off, but a lot of the comments here are just about the general warmth and "yellow" feel of the, IMO, overly aggressive True Tone tuning. I disliked it compared to my Xr at first (and compared other OLED screens I've had). But suddenly, and magically, my eyes see the 12 as the more accurate and better calibrated screen when I compare the two...

OK I can’t confirm this 100% because I read this somewhere and I couldn’t track where I saw it. But according to wherever I saw it was said that the mini and the max have the Samsung displays and both The 6.1 inch phones are sourced from LG and possibly a Chinese manufacturer. So does this mean that the Samsung displays won’t have these color issues? All I can say is I’m getting mine on Friday, the promax, and I’ll report back

I couldn't find same topic, so I will post it on here.

Green screen issues like those we have seen on Huawei Mate 20 PRO with LG panels? Hope they didnt use LG panel in iphone 12... BOE or Samsung are a must.

Edit: Iphone 12 has LG oled, iphone 12 mini, pro and Max Samsung oled.

This makes a lot of sense because all the iPhone 12 mini unbox videos on YouTube show a really crisp white screen. I’d still rather a 12 for the size and going to try one more time to get a ‘good’ one. They must exist because the display models in store are all accurate and bright white. If I fail to find a good one I’ll try the mini just to escape from lottery/returns hell loop.

It's hard to go by YouTube videos because the videos are generally color corrected in post to have a perfect white balance.

That all said, the biggest issue remains the persistent yellow cast in every lighting condition and darker-than-average luminance that affects display readability, particularly at night.

I'm glad more and more reviews are picking this up. It seems like it could be an incredibly easy fix for Apple (even just a white point temp slider would be nice), so hopefully this will garner their attention.

they got a non-goldy locks unit.

DisplayMate claims they use samples from off the shelf to make their claims, but I am always doubtful of it since they always seem very lucky in their findings

Idk, their images show the 12 looking warmer than even the 11:

thats display mate's?

maybe there is no escaping it for most people, probability wise, this year.
I think so too. TBH... I kind of got used to the display now. It's definitely warmer than my old Xr (which I no longer have), but no where as bad as my backup Pixel 3a.
