Even if they're manufactured by Samsung, I don't think we're getting away from warm color temperatures this year. Erica Griffin's Note 20 Ultra review shows that even those screens, when set to Natural/sRGB mode, are dingy and yellow.

She even measured 3 of them. Beginning to think this is just the way things are now.

The future is yellow.
Agree :( Nevertheless, Samsung lets users set their screen temperature preferences (warmer or cooler) within the phone settings.

People have been saying the future is yellow since 2009. I promise there will be good non yellow screens this year.

But the question is are those the standard, or the deviant?
Also what would be the logic, the rule? Like I want to or need to buy an iPhone now but I can’t now because this is the Warm panel season so I am holding off my purchase and wait for 3, 4 or 6 Months for the Cool panel season.

Lol thats a good question. I'm thinking of just adding Apple Care, then if they start getting cooler panels I'll just replace my screen later on.

I am convinced how early or late in a cycle of the device makes no difference for screen lottery, especially if it isn't even perceived to be a problem in the first place - and reviews are already out for it.

but some will disagree.

My 12 Pro is definitely warmer than my iPad Pro or Samsung A50 when they’re next to each other but to me personally it's not so warm to the point where it looks like a fault. Actually on it’s own with True Tone off the white balance looks bright, neutral and crisp as ever. It’s an F17 if anyone’s curious.

my DNP replacement is clearly more yellow and clearly crisper as well. It almost has a matte tablet feel versus the original whiter / blacker one that has more of a glossy computer feel. Guess I have to make a decision as to what is most important/. I do like using Tru Tone and with that on, the new one is just too yellow.

I've read multiple comments in this thread now that reference "DNP".
Can someone fill me in on what that means?

The first three letters of the serial number represent the factory that the phone was made in. So far, everyone who has looked up and commented about their serial numbers have all had phones from the same factory. Usually there are a few different factories in the mix.

Makes sense. Thanks.
Already sent my original 12 pro back for exchange. Wish I would've taken note of the serial.
New one is showing up in my account now but not expected until December. Which is the opposite of what the Apple rep told me to expect.

The serial should be in the email they sent you.

I have had an iPhone since the iP4 came out. Have had countless screens with a yellow/dull-ish hue and played the exchange lottery to the hilt. My iPhone 5 and X had beautiful, crisp, cool displays. And now, my launch iPhone 12 has the exact same beautiful, vibrant, cool, color shiftless display. So, they DO exist!
I have compared my launch iPhone 12 with store displays, family member displays and even an Apple Express Replacement. Mine is more vibrant, crisp, cool and brighter than all of them!
For what it’s worth, my iPhone 12 serial number begins with “F17”, for those who research it.
If you’re not happy with your current display, do what you gotta do in order to be satisfied with your purchase. My iPhone 11Pro had a very dingy, yellow-ish display; I played that lottery last year and to no avail, I ended up just dealing with it.
I’m very fortunate I scored a win on my first delivery with the iPhone 12.

thats interesting that’s my 12 pro too

someone should experiment and request an f17 at Apple store or carrier and see if they get better results

anecdotally tho I don’t think it’s mattered for some time. Last time I recall is a specific week run of serials for first gen iPhone had nice screens without crushed , x ray like inverted blacks but since then it’s been a goose chase for factory and build weeks

can’t hurt to try tho!

yah same deal with runny vertical lines on iPhone 5 style screens if you recall that one

Yeah man, the screen lottery is awful. Too stressful, time consuming and I cant really do it anymore. Ill try 2-3 x before giving up. I admit I "settle" now too

Damn. Gotta find me an F17.

So much for "They're all like that" or "Its just warmer this year". - hear that every year, every year not true.

Indeed, I stand corrected. Very surprised on how there's so many reports/reviews of this yellowing occuring across different brands.

Going to do a rain dance or something before I pick up my 2 mini's on Friday.

I also have a F17 iphone 12 Pro that I received on launchday from Applestore online.
My screen is also perfect when truetone is off. But with truetone on it's clearly a yellowish tone on it.
I have therefore turned truetone off for good.

I also have an ipad Pro 11" 2020 and it handles truetone completly different and I have it activated all the time on my iPad.
