Not sure if it's been mentioned here before, but after some toggling with color filter presets it appears the piss yellow is actually the tritanopia filter (blue/yellow). Toggling the filter on/off results in no change to the yellow hue. This is clearly a defect!
I don't think so. The trinatopia filter is quite subtle. It is most visible in the violet/magenta range, e.g. the fifth colored pencil from the right. The filter's effect is basically the same on my SE1.

White point is unaffected by all of these filters (not counting colour tint). They alter colours, not blacks and whites as they are visible to the colourblind.

Again, where? Can you point me to their official acknowledgement of this issue?
There is no press release, just multiple support agents telling members on here that Apple is aware of the issue and is currently working on what the next steps are.

DisplayMate put out their review:

What are everyone’s thoughts on this? I mean it pretty much contradicts what most people here seem to think *edit* including myself *edit*. I’m confused.

So did the ones at the Apple store with the special calibration look better?
No they were worst or the same. There is no special calibration dude is talking out of his ass

I’ve never seen the support agents admit an issue

Tomorrow I'm receiving my 4th unit. So far the only (barely) acceptable one, is the golden model my wife decided to keep. I would have returned that one too.

You're basically playing phone roulette at this point.... Seems to be a pretty widespread issue with phones out of the box so changing for a new one will most likely yield the same results unless you get lucky.... It sucks because it puts us in a position to wait for Apple to acknowledge the issue and replace the screen with a revised one... but that the same time you risk we run the risk of them never acknowledging as an issue and getting stuck with a yellow screened phone.

Apparently Samsung has been reducing the amount of blue light in their OLED displays every year, and we're all supposed to just accept it because blue light = bad apparently.

There are 2 right here:

I just spoke with Apple support. They advised they are aware of the issue, are doing an investigation; will call me to add mine to it.

Can confirm Apple is aware of this. Im currently working with Executive Relations who are allowing me retail model replacements and she said they are aware of this and currently investigating.

I've just realized that those who are in the US get far better customer support. In Europe at least I've never heard the word engineer and they are less aware of the issues that are going on.
So please, those in the US, make good use of that privilege that seems the only way to get their attention to this issue that affects all of us

They literally told me this. Also the phone has not been out that long, at all, for the 12PM. What company would do that at this point.

DisplayMate put out their review:

LOOOOOOOLLLL

I was waiting for this.

Literally every year, displaymate claims the new iPhone has "the best display we have ever tested in a smartphone".

Just as it is 100% sure that some iphones will have yellow tint, it is 100% sure that displaymate will claim the new iphone has "the best smartphone display we've ever tested". 100% chance every year for 10 years.

Reminder: even if the 12 they measured is "the best they've ever tested", it only applies to the single 12 they have in their possession, and not all 12's.

But honestly at this point, I think displaymate are hot garbage BS artists on Apples payroll.

Lol I mean I kinda agree. They basically copy/paste the article every year. I'm also partial to the fact that they probably get hand picked units since Apple pays them to test the devices.

After reading the comments on the Macrumors article, 2 things became clear:

1) Displaymate accepts payment from companies to claim their stuff is the best ever. there is direct first hand reports of that in the thread

2) Macrumors headline is not accurate, and displaymante never said that the 12 is "the best they have ever tested", only that it received an A+, like many other phones.

Conclusion: Nothing about that article is correct nor should it sway anyone from rejecting their piss-stained phone.

They seriously need to hire a website designer, it's painful to look at. But it does confirm something; last year the 11 Pro measured just around 6500k, but the 12 Pro is about 6400k, which should be slightly more yellow. Not a huge difference sure, but I think it's more than likely Displaymate is getting a cherry picked unit.

I'm really trying to ignore it, but every time I pick up my 12 mini the color difference is quite noticeable. With true tone on it's a super aggressive yellow (this part can probably be tweaked with software), and without it looks more washed out and sometimes looks like a yellow-greenish hue. The lower contrast combined with the smaller text is just not ideal.

It's difficult to perfectly capture in pictures, but it's noticeable. Below is an SE1 (that has always had a yellow hue at the top of its screen), the 12 mini, and a X. It's 1:21pm here, so night shift is not active:

Just for the record. Chatting with Apple Support US and the guy tells me he is not aware of any issue regarding yellow screen...
Trust me it will be agent dependent, and there will be no "escalation" or "software fix" or anything like that.

If you have a yellow screen, retail return within return window. Do NOT cling on to some idea that Apple will make this right eventually. They will not.
