can someone please do an actual color temp test or something ??

Someone already did, the results are a page or so back up the thread. Briefly, the iPad 3 screen he tested was a good match for the d65 standard (much better than the iPad 2, which was less colour-accurate). So, although the law of averages says there are almost certainly some defective screens out there the iPad 3 screen overall seems to be better (more colour-accurate). Not that actual data seems to mean anything to some of the pitchfork-wielders in here, of course...

The problem is however, that colour accuracy is pretty much for professionals, which the iPad does not cater to as a primary market.

Its fairly safe to say that your average user wouldnt notice it anyway, but from what I gather the people on this forum would prefer a normal or cool colour profile.

Has anyone tried that new cable that allows your iPad to send a mirror signal to an HDTV or monitor? I might be interesting to see if the actual video SIGNAL is what's making the yellowing...or if it's somehow the physical components like the glass/coatings, LED's or LCD panel itself.

..... I'd suggest reading the previous 14 pages

To those that are saying this is an issue of perception or just general variation in LCD parts, my new iPad sadly has a yellow screen, but it's actually two thirds yellow. One corner looks more neutral, and then it fades in diagonally into the two thirds of the screen that's yellow. I can spin the orientation and pick the yellow and neutral corners out easily. I can notice it in the dark on low brightness.

Anyhow, I am going to wait and see. There are 14 days after all. Aside from this yellow issue, the screen is truly gorgeous. It's not that noticeable in photo and video use cases, given all the colors, but you do notice everything seems a little bit more yellow-green than it should. However, where it is most noticeable is web browsing and reading; the white background looks dingy. This is a major use case for the iPad, so unless the screen displays white as white, I can't justify keeping it, as much as I would love to. It's just too pricey a device to get this wrong. (I know is competitively priced in this category, but in absolute terms it is pricey.)

Ive noticed that when I hold the ipad in portrait form and tilt it left and right at an angle the screen looks more blueish, but if you tilt it forward and back it looks more yellowish.

I'd suggest you re-read my comment. :) And, I've read all previous pages and NO ONE made any attempt to send the video signal from the iPad to a secondary monitor for comparison purposes.

I want to know if the yellow color balance is from the video signal, or the LCD's or what. By sending the signal out to a known calibrated monitor that one is familiar with it would be easy to see if the coloration is embedded in the video signal (and easily corrected with color balance software) or the result of a physical situation from the glass/LCD panel or LED arrays.

My screen gradually starts getting yellow at top 3rd of the screen in portrait mode. It reminds me of the yellow I had at the bottom of the 27 inch iMac I returned last year.

I'm going to wait and see if it gets better but it is super annoying going from warm to cool when reading left to right in landscape. Damn apple making me love there amazing ips hi res screens and then giving me half blue half yellow versions lol.

it wouldn't prove or disprove anything.

the color accuracy on the secondary (mirrored) display is dependent on the color calibration of that display, not the source. IOW you could have a perfectly white ipad display and the output can appear less white on the external monitor/tv. even if you used a properly calibrated external display, all you'd be proving is that the output signal is correct.

vice versa, you could have a yellowish ipad display sending an accurate 'white' to the external monitor.

I think you and I have the same problem, I have part of the screen absolutely immaculate, and a yellow ding coming from one corner and fading in. It isn't that noticeable at first, but I was reading a book on it and my eyes felt funny, because one side was darker than the other, and when reading for long periods of time it agitates my eyes.
Taking it in tomorrow to an apple store but I bought it online. Not sure what they can do for me.

I have the same problem, except reversed. The bottom 1/4 of my screen is yellower than the top 3/4. I don't mind the warmer tint, but it would be nicer if it was uniform.

When I first got my new iPad I played with it before restoring from back up my screen seemed correct color ( or maybe I was distracted and didn't notice ) but after I restored from back up from old iPad I started noticing my screen was a bit on pinkish side. I was talking to my friend that works at apple retail he suggested just do a setting reset on iPad (He recommends that when you switch or upgrade apple iOS products after a restore to reset settings for varies reasons) I did that and my screen seems much more accurate with just a slight pink not as much or I just think it changed and got used to it haha . Maybe with all you with the yellow screens should try and see if that helps it maybe just as simple as the calbration settings are saved in settings for the screen and transferred over when you do a restore.

Why would I re-read your comment? My response was, and is, perfectly valid.

Anyone would have gathered from the previous 14 pages that the problem is not software related.

I haven't restored my ipad2 yet...screen is yellowish.. my buddy just brought his 16 gb verizon ipad3 and his screen looks okay...

I'll go to the apple store and compare side by side and talk to a genius...

Yeah the inconsistency is what sucks. My iPad 2 was blue all over. My girlfriends new iPad is a little more yellow but it's all over too. Mine is almost half yellow half blue. I prefer the cooler screens over the warm ones but I'm ok with either I just can't stand having one that isn't the same all over.

We're you using iBooks? If so flip your iPad over. Is the same side dark or did it flip sides? Using iBooks renders the pages to look like a real book, so the side with the binding will be darker even if your screen is perfect.

Admittedly I didn't read all of this thread, but I can say that I do also notice a warmer image. However, to anyone worried about pure whites I would suggest looking at the device at 100% brightness. Honestly, if I am concerned with a flawless image at full quality I'll put it at 100% and deal with the battery. At 100% my whites look white to me.

Yeah when I flip it over its the same side, The screen goes from light to dark yellow and it is giving me a headache.

Well, went to the apple store to compare..and the demo unit showed a blue tint compared to mine. I then asked for a replacement and they were very accommodating.

Opened first box....more yellow then mine.
Opened second box.....again more yellow then mine.
They wouldn't allow another one....and I completely understand....I was surprised and humbled they even allowed me to try. They could have said no.

So that got me thinking that maybe some are right, and you have to wait a week to see if the color changes on its own....since the demo units were most all blue, and maybe over the few days they changed, unlike the two box ones were yellow worse then mine and never got a chance yet.

FYI Mine was purchased online so the myth you can't replace it at the apple store...is just that...a myth.

Here is a pic I took today since mine was delivered yesterday. In a few days will take another pic....and so on....just to see if there is any change.

Is the box with google supposed to be different color? left one is yellow, right one is blue. Left screen is yellowish, right screen is bluish. I wonder what color it was suppose to be
