Is the box with google supposed to be different color? left one is yellow, right one is blue. Left screen is yellowish, right screen is bluish. I wonder what color it was suppose to be
no, it was like that in flipboard. I'm going to take another pic with ibooks and post it.

" REPOST"

Well, went to the apple store to compare..and the demo unit showed a blue tint compared to mine. I then asked for a replacement and they were very accommodating.

Opened first box....more yellow then mine.
Opened second box.....again more yellow then mine.

They wouldn't allow another one....and I completely understand....I was surprised and humbled they even allowed me to try. They could have said no. So I left with mine that I receive yesterday.

So that got me thinking that maybe some are right, and you have to wait a week to see if the color changes on its own....since the demo units were most all blue, and maybe over the few days they changed, unlike the two box ones were yellow worse then mine and never got a chance yet.

FYI Mine was purchased online so the myth you can't replace it at the apple store...is just that...a myth.

Here is a pic I took today since mine was delivered yesterday. In a few days will take another pic....and so on....just to see if there is any change.

Ipad 1st gen on the left.
Ipad 3rd gen on the right.

Brightness set all the way up on both.

Now I don't know if its placebo effect...but yesterday when I got it, it looked
much more yellow then it does today. It a seems its starting to look more white to me...and my ipad 1 is starting to look as the blue gives it a more washout look, but again could be a placebo effect.

But I will keep taking pics to make sure.

Here are some more comparsion photos between the iPad and Tab 10.1. It was difficult to get a good photo without distortion on the Tab because of its lower pixel density. After using both tablets today, I actually prefer the iPad's display in terms of color reproduction. If the iPad didn't have the pinkish yellow hue at the bottom of the screen, I would be perfectly happy with it.

Ok I'm wondering if anyone else is seeing what I'm seeing, but it's kinda funny.

I can literally sit here and spin my iPad in circles and each side that you look at an angle has a different color/ tint to it. one side is blue, one side is more yellow, and one side is more of an in between. I can basically change the tint of the screen by choosing a side to look from.

Anyone else see the same thing?

I had the issue where half of the screen was dim (or yellow or whatever) and the other half was normal. It was extremely irritating when you were trying to read. I took it to the store and Apple swapped it out, no problems. Unfortunately, the replacement has the same issue. It's a little better, but I think that's because the entire screen is yellow. In addition, there is a line of dead pixels across the entire screen, backlight issues, and a strange blue discoloration on very dark backgrounds. I'm really irritated but I'm going to feel like a total ******* taking it back again. Not sure what to do. Should I try exchanging it again or take it to the genius? Maybe the genius would be able to take a look at a few replacements and find one that doesn't suck. Thoughts?

Also, have there been any patterns as far as when the devices with issues were built?

I feel like the top half on mine is yellow and the bottom is more white/blue cooler color...hoping it goes away in time!?

You guys all describe similar color patterns to what I see. After reading about dead pixels and light leaks, I am wondering if I should even attempt an exchange.

What surprises me is how yellow some of them are.

Secondly why some even have half yellow and half white is very disturbing.

Its as if Apple dropped the ball on QC completely.

Also from what I heard is the people who preordered on the first day don't seem to have this problem either. But I have yet to confirm this.

Don't tell me you believe some conspiracy that good iPads were hand picked for people that preordered?

I hope not because I pre-ordered a16gb the first day also but then I went in and switched it with a 32 yesterday. if that is true maybe it is simply just a time thing.

Not hand picked, but the first units made would be subject to a lot of sampling and production scrutiny to make sure the lines were running correctly.

I ordered very early on March 7th and the iPad I received was made in the first week of January. I have a warm or "yellow" display, so this is not true.

Well I just checked my Ipad 1st gen, Ipad 3rd gen, Macbook pro, and HP 25 inch monitor with different color tests like this one.

ColorHP.png

Results? The blue tint Ipad 1st gen, sucks in accurate color. The Ipad 3rd gen, Mackbook pro, and the HP monitor, are all on the mark.

I also remember yesterday I saw yellow at the top half....but as of today I don't see it at all.

I really thinking what others have said, that you have to give it a few days to a week is true.

The color is starting to grow on me, warmer, easier on my eyes :)

I wouldn't have agreed on this yesterday, but looking at the blue tint on my 1st gen ipad it looks faded out and not as nice. Maybe all of us have gotten so use to the blue tint over the years, that when we accurately get a display that shows truer colors are eyes need time to adjust to it.

Like I would believe in something like that?!?! That has no common sense.

Have you heard of manufacturing and parts? When an order is sold out sometimes those parts are replaced with a diff manufacture. Thats what I am thinking...

Anyone have an issue with the screen being a pinkish red when looking at a white screen?

So much for that idea... :(

Holygrail said it goes away. Maybe you can give an update about yours after another few days. I may give it another try. A lot of thanks if you can let us know. =)

But from my experience they never go away. Maybe its something else with the screens.

You know this thing hasn't even been out 48 hours right (and most Apple stores are still stacked with them)?

It was meant for another quote earlier. It was my thought that preorders online were different stock from the ones from the store. Since the first shipments are supposed to be sold out.

The stores are sold out of some specific models though around me, the ones I want at least. I've checked =/

I went to the best buy store and talked to the manager.. there were only 64 wifis in stock so I couldn't return and buy new one.. I will check back when they get some 32s in..

the ipads in bestbuys were whiter than my yellowish one..

then headed to the apple store.. compared my ipad2, ipad3 with the display units... the demo ones were more blueish than my ipad2..

my ipad2 had the best whites.. then my buddy's ipad3..

ipad3s had BETTER saturation... the flower on apple.com looks better!

here are 2 pics to compare.. black is my ipad2, white in black case is ipad3...

My iPad 3 (32gb white) has more of a pinkish tone. I came here looking to see if anybody is having same pinkish tone. I think the previous poster has a point apple should really give us a way to adjust color temp like the Mac. That would save them and the consumer time and money on returns of tempture issues in screens.

My iPad 3 has a reddish pinkish tone vs my wife's iPad 3. With a white screen in a dark room with brightness turned down there is a slight pink reddish tint to my screen where hers is Good. We just tested with a relative and she sees a slight pink in my iPad vs wife's. That said mine is noticeably brighter too at lowest setting. Is pink bad?
