Has anyone noticed that their yellow tint has gone away? I had a slight yellow tint on Friday and Saturday, and compared it against 2 iPad 2's at home. I used the new iPad all day yesterday (at least 10 hours) and I noticed by that evening, it was a marked difference in the screen's color temperature.

My unit was always evenly lit but had quite a warm cast to it. By late last night, that warm cast seems to have cooled a bit, and the white is most definitely not as yellow.

Not sure if it's possible for it to lighten up, but mine seems to. I know it's not my eyes getting used to it because the comparisons I did on Friday with 2 iPad 2's and my new iPad compared to ones I did last night are really different. Wishing I'd taken a pic of the difference on Friday vs last night.

I think that it should be stated again that this isn’t a ‘normal natural warm screen’ issue – it’s a yellow tint issue and there’s a big difference. Some may be over sensitive to screens that have a natural warm tone if they’re used to staring at cooler screens, but I’ve seen the yellow issue in person, and it’s real. So let’s not dismiss the issues at hand based on inaccurate assumptions and a few users that are overly picky.

In addition to panels with yellow tint, there are some iPad 3s with noticeable uneven backlighting, noticeable hue shifts (often seen by the camera area), and corner/edge yellow blotches. Some iPads 3s are also curiously dimmer that iPad 2s, despite the rumor that it has dual LEDs (but, let’s not believe rumors and scratch that off the list).

Also, when citing panel issues, there is no need to mention the iPad’s storage size, cellular carrier or color. I would think that with a huge build operation at FoxConn and the like, it would make sense that panels would be pulled from mega stock piles and used in all iPads at random. I think it’s safe to say that there isn’t a batch for white, batch for black, batch for VZW, batch for ATT or a batch for 16GB, etc. That wouldn’t be very efficient on the assembly line.

what yellow?

Congratulations! You won the Apple LCD Panel Lottery! Unfortunately, the fact that you got one of the many ‘good ones’ doesn’t discredit any of the claims made here.

I think mine looks great!! Although I am color blind so... haha it looks good to me either way ;)

What do you experts think?? I set it at 50% brightness like in the 3 displayed on the front page. Looks good to me

Here's the iPad 3 with my iMac, iPhone 4 and Galaxy Tab 10.1--all three of which look very white and neutral compared to the iPad. Brightness is at full on all devices with the stock color profiles.

Piss yellow.

Why do you have two tablets?

Sold my original iPad last year and bought the Galaxy Tab for its higher resolution screen, even though I planned to replace it with the iPad 3. Now not so sure I want to get rid of the Tab if all of the new iPad screens look like this.

yeah attaching a screen print is not going to show the physical properties of your actual screen.

other than that, it looks absolutely perfect!

You're nuts, I don't see it. Heres my iPhone 4s vs iPad 3

He must be messing with you. You can't tell from screenshots though, you need to take a picture of the screen with a camera. Screenshots will always look perfect.

I noticed the yellow right away when it loaded up. Tried to just now return. Said they never heard of this and said to give it a week. I have a yellow iPhone 4 that stayed that way and this looks worse. Is anyone being told to come back later? I bought at Apple authorized dealer. Could I return it to apple store.

This is exactly how mine looks & it's totally unacceptable.

White is white! Yellow is yellow, regardless of colour temp!

yes, I sure seems that way, I let it "burn it", played 5-6 movies and it seems the yellowish gone away. I'm keeping it...

Your imac is piss yellow compared to the galaxy tab

Aren't those just screen captures? If so, you do realize that screen captures won't show us anything right? You need to take a picture of the screen with an actual camera.

Yeah my bad. Attached is a picture taken with my iPhone:

ps. I'm bored! :D

Well so much for that. His was definitely cooler than mine. It's most definitely warmer than the older iPads though.

I've noticed that many of the iDevices have gotten warmer over the past couple of years. iPad 2 was very cool as was my original iPhone 4. I had to swap out my iPhone 4 last spring and ended up with a device that was much warmer than the previous phone and iPad. I swapped it out a few times but never found one that was as cool as my original iPhone 4. Now I have an iPhone 4S which was definitely warmer than my iPad 2 but it now it appears to have a cooler display compared to the new iPad.

My guess is the guy in my office has a warm device but not nearly as warm as some of the others we've seen. I feel like mine is very warm and I will probably swap it out at some point but will wait a bit until we hear of some success stories that don't involve 5 or 6 exchanges.
My worry is if I send it infor a replacement I might get a really bad one, mine seems tame compared to some.

Here's my piss colored screen

The one on the left looks good aside from its left side being darker.

Aside from it being yellow on the top right side I also see some form of blue tinting which is very visible in both of your pictures.

Hm, I've got a warm, yellowish display but it doesn't bother me one bit. One problem is that it really seems much worse in photos to me than it does in person. Also, as has been said in previous posts, most displays tend to be calibrated with too cool of a color temperature than accurate. I used a Spyder color calibration tool on my laptop in the past, and it set my color temperature to much warmer (yellower) than I was used to. But over time, I noticed colors popped more and were more accurate. The problem is that we've all become accustomed to overly hot blue-ish cool color temps because that's the way most devices are set up.

I think it ends up being a matter of preference. I actually find the warmer color temp easier on the eyes. But I've got my plasma calibrated warm, too. But if you prefer having your display look as white as a sheet of paper, then by all means bring it back. But the reality is that color temperature and perception is a relative thing. If you can't get your eyes used to a warm display, then it'll always bug you. If you're the type of person who tries to spot how yellow or blueish whites are in pictures, you might be irked forever. But if you can allow your eyes to get used to it, you might find that it has its advantages.

So, go figure. I, for one, am not bring my "piss yellow" iPad back. I kinda like it ;)

Here is a professionally calibrated display, with an "iPad 3" in front of it:

The Galaxy Tab 10.1 screen is blue (8380K) and your other displays must be as well, from that comparison.

All that image proves, is that the ambient lighting did not match the iPad display.

Here's my white iPad 2, with a blue tinted display, in light from a window at dusk:

Note the horrible orange colour of the LCD. It doesn't look like that at all to the eye, but illustrates why you cannot judge how "white" a display is compared to the bezel.

I purchased 3 iPads and 2 of them had yellow tints and the 3rd one was perfect. I returned the 2 iPads to the Apple store and they immediately exchanged them. The 2 new iPads are now perfect. Glad I saw this thread.

:D
