Here is a professionally calibrated display, with an "iPad 3" in front of it:
Image

The Galaxy Tab 10.1 screen is blue (8380K) and your other displays must be as well, from that comparison.

All that image proves, is that the ambient lighting did not match the iPad display.

Here's my white iPad 2, with a blue tinted display, in light from a window at dusk:

Note the horrible orange colour of the LCD. It doesn't look like that at all to the eye, but illustrates why you cannot judge how "white" a display is compared to the bezel.

Pretty nice white tones you have their on the Ipad3

Interesting. Is the iPad 3 in this photo one of the "yellow tinted" ones? Or one of the typical bluer ones?
Around 6700K, so warmer than my iPad 2 which was over 7000K and appeared noticeably blue. (at least when compared to calibrated displays)

There have been at least two other sources which both measured their iPad 3s to be in the region of 6500K, I would be surprised if there's any significant variation from that if they are all from the same supplier. I think it's more to do with the calibration of other displays people are comparing the "yellow" iPad screen to, which makes the difference.

If you are used to a "blue" display which measures over 7000K or even 8000K, the iPad is definitely going to look yellow in comparison, even though it's more accurate.

If you are used to D65 calibrated monitors/displays, the iPad screen should be a fairly close match.

I think if most of the previous iOS devices (iPhone, iPhone 3G(S), iPhone 4, iPad 1 & 2) were calibrated closer to 6500k, and the iPad 3 was closer to 7000k, then people would be complaining about "blue tint".

When I first got my iPhone 4S, I thought it looked yellow next to my 3GS. But now, after using the 4S for about 4 months, the 3GS looks too blue when I put the two side by side.

Unless you're going to be using your iPad 3 next to your iPad 2 every time you use it, you'll eventually forget about how "yellow" it looks.

Congratulations! You won the Apple LCD Panel Lottery! Unfortunately, the fact that you got one of the many ‘good ones’ doesn’t discredit any of the claims made here.

didnt say it did. just giving an example

The one on the right is piss yellow.

Piss yellow.
we found the issue! youre high! now even a screen shot is yellow?

The Ipad3 sample on displaymate has a reading of 7,085K for its white point.. This might not be accurate but I think this kind of variance is what makes people screen for yellow tint. If the variance is only 6400~6600K then people wont have this yellow tint issue, its either purchase it and get used to the warm white tones or skip it.

I just opened my iPad about an hour or 2 ago and I'm pretty certain it has a yellow tint.

Guess all I can do is wait and hope it goes away soon

In an earlier post I said:

<...>
The right side was decent and the colors accurately tracked those of my iMac (profiled with i1Display Pro) while my iPad 2 definitely does not but they are 'close enough' for showing snapshots to the family. Had the left side been the equal of the right I would have kept it.

I decided to try one replacement to get a better screen. If the replacement has similar problems I'll return it for a refund. I, too, cannot justify paying over $800 for what I consider to be a defective item. I would never be satisfied with it and would definitely have buyer's remorse. That would be a first for me after purchasing an Apple product.

<...>

I have received the replacement unit and it is has a virtually perfect display. I say 'virtually' because I think I can see a slight bit of darkening at the top but it is so slight I may be imagining things. If there is any 'yellow tint' I can't see it and it was more than obvious in my original unit. As far as the display is concerned this is a keeper.

Just returned my half white half yellow screen and the replacement is almost exactly the same lol. The yellow is a little worse at the top right of the screen this time. I just want one that is consistent so I'll probably return this one for my money back and buy another one next week so my 14 day return window extends. This sucks.

Thatswhat I am afraid of getting a worse one.

The one on the left looks good aside from its left side being darker.

Aside from it being yellow on the top right side I also see some form of blue tinting which is very visible in both of your pictures.

The one on the left is an iPad 2. What's wrong with the one on the right and the one on the Tom's hardware page? Piss yellow?

Right now, it's a complete crap shoot if you decide to return it and purchase a new one. There ARE 3rd gen iPads with neutral displays as one of my bosses has one. I'm debating returning mine for a new one but like you said, there's no guarantee that you get a good one and it may in fact be worse. Luck of the draw.

Whether the warmer display is more accurate or not is irrelevant to me, I find it quite annoying, (always have...never liked "warm" color settings on TVs either) and will probably exchange mine at some point.

Yeah my girlfriend and cousin both got good ones. I settled on a yellow 27 inch iMac a couple years ago. It now looks horrible next to my newer blue cinema display so I don't plan on settling this time. I'll return as many as they will let me at the 2 apple stores near me.

I agree my IPad yellow tint has improved drastically since Friday, I left it on full brightness on a white picture for a total of 20 hours, three nights whilst I was sleeping and it has improved everyday. Although the display still looks a little warm, it certainly is not the p I s s yellow it was when I turned it on for the first time. I will note whilst doing this, the iPad did get a little toasty. Maybe the heat is effecting it more than we think, who knows but I can contest to the color getting whiter and no it's not OCD, I will post the side by side comparisons over the past 3 days between my iPad2 and that shows this. Unless my year old IPad2 has gotten more yellow over the past 3 days then I would say hold onto the IPad a few days longer and keep on full brightness on a white background for an extended period of time and see the results for yourself.

That makes me feel better. Can't wait to see the pics.

I noticed that all my Apple products...MacBook pro, iPhone and iPad 3 included have a yellow tinge to it. it must be the lighting. Even the white frame on my iPad is yellow.

Yep, my new iPad is reallllly yellow (see pic). Also, on the bootup screen you can see a dead pixel in upper right corner. Does this warrant a return, or it's not really that bad?

Strangely, my iPad3 turns yellow when I read the post... but when I stop reading, it turns white. Go figure

My iPad seems to have improved over the last few days too. Although mine was no where near as yellow looking as many of the pics I've seen.

I had my son with his 20/20 vision look at the screen without telling him what it was he was looking for. When he couldn't spot anything wrong, I told him it looked yellow to me and pointed out where exactly. He says it looked good to him, he didn't see any yellowing.

It still looks a bit yellow to me compared to my iPad 1, but when I stand it up next to my 2011 MBP it looks perfectly normal. I'm not going to stress over it anymore.

Thanks! I'm not usually picky about devices but mine has a noticeably yellow tint sitting next to my 4gs. I'll just enjoy it and stop letting these threads brain wash me lol :D
