Just compare my friends iPad 2 to my iPad 3. It appears that the iPad 2 seems to have a more cooler magenta looking appearance where's my iPad 3 looks to be a little more warm white. As a photographer it looks like my iPad 3 screen is more accurate.

Take a picture of a white piece of paper and put it side by side. =D I doubt it will still be very accurate for white. Sharpness is crazy nice though. This is how I'm comparing it. But I get your point on yellow. I have not tested it the other way around. But you may of been one of the lucky few where yours is warm white. My brother's does not have a problem.

The browser is supposed to be white and yet all I see is yellow. I have played around with TV settings, and those DVD calibration kits for TVs always give me a wow to what colors I'm supposed to be seeing. It'd be nice if we can load up those dvd with color calibrations like the TVs. =D

But the screens definitely has problems. I mean this is the first generation that I am hearing about patches of yellow. Usually they are consistant. That would mean for those people who have patches, they are impossible to fix =/.

I actually have no problem with the overall warm tone of my iPad. But the pinkish hue at the bottom is distracting considering that I use this primarily as an e-reader and web browser, all with predominantly white backgrounds. I am hesistant to return because I don't know how prevalent this uneven coloring is. Does anyone know what causes this uneven pink hue to occur in the LCD manufacturing process?

I had the pinkish ( red hue ) and it is starting to go away it is very weird the more I use it the less there is . Everyone give it a few days of use. I put my brightness on high and left it on a wen page for a while I did the same to my iPad 2 with corecct color and about 1 hr into it the differance in color temp was less the ad 3 is still a bit more pink hue but alot alot more acceptable . This would make sence if the ones in stores are correct color they installed them the night before and left them on as employees were trainning n them and this happened all night before opening. So everyone chill out and give it some time and see if it corrects itself.

I've had to return two Ipad 3rd gen's because of yellow tint. Saw the posts on the forum, realized this was a widespread problem, and decided the odds were low of me getting one with a proper screen (i.e. one that shows white as white and not as off-white). Got a full refund from Apple and will probably order an Ipad 2 refurb instead.

This is really unacceptable, I shouldn't have to spend half of my day off from work driving to and from the Apple store, waiting in line, and dealing with crowds. I've never had a problem with my other Apple products (Ipad 1, 2, and iPhone 3GS).

Very dissappointed about this, I tried hard to love my yellow tint Ipads, however I just can't accept less than perfection when I'm spending $700+ hard earned dollars. I'd rather not have one than have to accept compromises. This sucks.

Yuk... The contrast is bad with the yellow tint.

After using my new ipad 3 for 30 min knowing it had the heavy yellow tint, I'm am disappointed. The text and shades that the menus consist of start blending together. I much prefer the whiter look with good contrast on my iPad 2. Even though the res is better on iPad 3 the contrast on the 2 makes it better read for myself.
Also, when I show a few pictures on both to others, they think that the iPad 2 is actually the new iPad 3. The yellow tint is actually making pics look worse. I only say this due to 7 out of 7 polled liking the pics on the iPad 2 better not knowing which one was which at the time.
Lastly, I made sure the brightness levels were the same on each.

My 2 & 3 cents worth.

Yes, my screen is yellow. But to say text and pictures look better on the iPad 2 is not something I believe at all, and is certainly not anything I experience.

That's not to bad this red hue (pinkish) is driving me crazy sometimes it's here sometimes it's not. Does any body else have redish screen issues

Yes I have it too. Seems to be different at different times of the day.

I think those of us with the reddish pinkish screens are a minority. Lol

I notice it more when I turn down the brightness.

Nice to see those of us with the pink hue. Will try what you said at work tomorrow. Thanks.

Has it ever dawned on people that warmer colors are easier on the eyes.

Blue light is actually a short-wavelength visible light and not suitable for long viewing comfort.

White light on the other hand is extremely reflective.

I have the pinkish tint too. It's uniform and I have no dead pixels, so I should be happy. But I'm not. The issue is that I'm looking at my computer which is a Sony all-in-one with a brilliant display (I think Sony calls it Premium HD+) and when I go back to the iPad the color experience is visually jarring, especially in the settings and browser apps. Then I go to my Galaxy SII which has a SAMOLED+ and also has brilliant whites.

The iPad's resolution is amazing, I won't argue that. But the tint and subpar viewing angles (for what I've come to expect on an IPS panel) are making me rethink my $799.68 purchase. Why is there nothing in the App store that allows you to calibrate the color profile? Both Android and Windows 7 have multiple options that yield immediate results.

For me it's not so much the warmer hues (althought I do prefer my whites to be white rather than eggshell) its more the fact that one corner is slightly off color. Mine's not pink but kind of looks like a light dusting of yellow dust. I only see it when the page has white on it. It's vey obvious on this forum and rather distracting. I'm giving it a week before I take it in and see what the displays look like.

I know I said I would stay away from this thread.... But it's like a train wreck, just have to watch! lol.

As a consumer, if you feel the need to return your iPad3 for due to it being set to a warmer color temp. Then absolutely 100% do it. If you don't like it, don't keep it. These things are not cheap!

I would honestly suggest trying it for a week and see if your eyes get used to it (while you still are within your return policy). I am not trying to get anyone to "live with" a "defective" product. I am trying to convince some of you to get used to a pretty dang close to HDTV spec (rec 709) calibrated display.

Like I said earlier this is VERY common in HDTV calibration. Where consumers are so used to very "cool" color temps. And display's set to where they are just so blown out. That once they have their display professionally calibrated, they think it looks like garbage/wrong/etc.... A lot of the times it is the same people that think Plasma's are garbage and you have to buy a LED (which is an LCD with LED backlighting) or you are a moron/idiot/etc... Where in reality for picture quality Plasma's generally have better black level/color/overall picture quality (of course there is always exceptions, and the LCD/LED tech is just now getting on par with Plasma).

It my sound silly. But I would love to know what picture mode most of you have your HDTV's set to.

Uniformity issues aside (for those who have them), this is not a defect. It is easily one of the best out of the box displays I have taken readings on.

Oh and using a piece of paper to compare is generally not a good idea. As most papers have optical brighteners etc.... You would really need a 100% white grayscale card (I am sure you can find one at a photo store).

Yep. Same for me. Everybody I asked said the ipad 2 looked better in side by side comparison.

Mine had a very noticeable yellow tint. I ran movies on it constantly over the weekend to see if it would change and nothing happened. So I got my money back and will stick with my ipad 2. Pity, apart from the yellow screen, I think apple knocked it out of the park with this machine.

All these color temp posts are hilarious. It's yellow no matter how you try to spin it (on my machine anyway). Human aren't machines!

Good luck to those with yellow screens. Replace or get your money back. Don't settle if it bothers you.

Apple's certainly not going to change the screen because a handful of people hate the warmer color.

Anyone who has undertaken any form of CS work knows there is always a group that is never satisfied.

Make it X, then Y will complain profusely that X sucks - vice versa.

I would think a display calibration app could fix this. Or at least tune it so it's not so damn pink. However it seems none are available so I'm either keeping it or rolling the dice for something else, which could end up being worse.

All I've read indicated Samsung's the sole supplier for these displays; I wonder how many factories they're using because there seems to be quite a variance out there.

Glad to see I'm not the only one who has a pinkish iPad. Lol

Same here. I think I'm going to keep it because I'm afraid to get something worse. It isn't bad.

Me and my wife have new iPads and hers has a much cooler color temp than mine.. I don't get it... Why are these displays so drastically different doesn't say much for quality control

Geez both your iPad and monitor are out compared to the white border of your iPad!

;)

Warmer tone is easier on the eyes. Read longer. I am sure Apple thought this out. It's better.

Sounds an awful lot like the bleating of a stray apple sheep. :) White is not supposed to be pink, no matter how magical its effects are on the human eye.

I had my Sony Bravia set to normal but changed it to cinema mode this evening to see what it would look like. The vibrant mode (cool temp) clearly looked like the screen that many in this thread want. The cinema mode is warm temp and would be considered the yellow tint that is being mentioned here. After watching it for a few minutes, it looked pretty good to me. I am going to keep the TV this way for a couple of days and see if I like it.

My iPad has a warmer screen temperature. I have not decided yet whether I like it but it has no bleed and is uniformly lit so I am very likely to keep it. I still believe that people should return their device if they aren't happy but they shouldn't assume that Apple considers either screen as correct or defective.

Viewing angle issue?

On my iPad 3, I noticed that viewing the screen 15-20 degrees off-axis makes the screen dim more than the 2 and it takes on a blue-green tint. I haven't found any viewing angle issues in the forums, but I was wondering if this could be related to the yellow/blue issue being talked about here.

Tint Gate

I got my 16gb ATT ipad3 on the 16th and immediately noticed the yellow tint.. *warmer color* wtv. Comparing it to my ipad2 its no contest.. there is def a change of temperature going on.
Drove to the nearby apple store... and was shocked to see my unit compared to the store demos -- and mine was noticeably yellow. For all you guys out there - the easiest way to compare is to pull up Notes app *yes i know its yellow* but you can clearly see how dingy/dirty/piss colored the new ipad3s are compared to a the "blue" screen.
Im not going to lie... apple was pretty cool letting me swap out about 5 of them... but i didnt feel bad because i had the proof.. i was able to compare to the newly opened ipad to their floor model and immediately show them that hey ...
1. this is NOT a "normal variation in color"
2. that i am some anal customer

at first i was thinking i dont want to wait for the colors to normalize / dry / wtv.... but I am up for trying it out.. like Holy Grail suggested... waiting it out... I am literally leaving it on full brightness and having it go through photos... and will recompare everyday... will report back here...
wtv the case... it being "the correct calibration' -- one should not have to settle and one hopes that this issue gets resolved....
Good Luck to Everyone
