2 People getting used to the yellow tint

Theres a difference between getting used to it, and it actually getting better.

I opened another black ATT model to test speeds, and that one is much more yellow than the white one. And it looks like how the white one was when I got it.

There is no question it has lessened

Alright, hopefully when I decide to buy theres no yellow tinting nonsense anymore like the Ipad2 after 6 months of its release.

I have a replacement iPad which is far and away improved color wise. I was beyond anal checking it after the first one and thought one corner looked very marginally less white on a blank safari page, and I went half blind this afternoon trying to tell if the shift key on that side was a shade yellower than the other side. In the end, it probably is a bit.

I did a check for backlight issues and it appears I have some screen bleeding in that area. I'm attaching a photo. I have made one return at the Apple Store already and my fear is not seeing a backlight issue under their lights or being über sensitive and finding something wrong with subsequent iPads that I wouldn't have questioned if not for this thread.

My questions - how bad does it look from this iPhone 4 shot, can you have this level of bleeding and have a perfectly acceptable screen (it looks normal and I'm convincing myself I'm seeing things that aren't there?) and if I do go in and go the retail return route, does anyone have experience with them letting you check as many units as necessary and assisting you with the backlight check in a darker area?

I don't want to be unreasonable and I also don't want to spend $500 for something substandard, if it is.

100% brightness?

My new iPad didn't really have the yellow tint (it's definately 'warmer' than my ipad2) but the bottom 1/4-1/3 of the screen looked 'dusty', like really fine yellow dust. I kept wanting to wipe it off. It was only noticable when on a page with whiteish/light backgrounds. Unfortunately that applies to most websites and gf course books. I didn't really want to exchange it because other than that it's pretty much perfect, no dead pixels, no bleeding at all, etc.

I don't know if there is an adhesive issue or what but I decided to give it a few days. I turned the brightness up to 100% and just let it run, kind of like a previous poster.

Well, I'm happy to say that the 'dusting' is gone. My screen is now a uniform color and that's all I wanted. I don't know if it was time, or the 100% brightness, or something else but it did work.

And no, it's not just that I 'got use to it'. The screen did not produce a uniform color but now it does. So before you go trying to exchange you might try this. Can't hurt and might save yourselves some time and trouble.

Good luck to all.

My screen definitely has a yellow tint when looking at it from the bottom angle. It seems to be getting a little bit better but I'm not really sure, I hope it gets better. If it doesn't get better I'm probably just going to replace it at Apple Store and see if any other version is better than what I have. It can get kind of annoying especially when looking at it when I'm sitting down at a desk at school.

Same thing

Hey Dannow...i have the exact same thing as you ...word for word...can you tell me how long you let it run on 100 for...

also i would say mine is perfect except for the lower part which i hope clears up ...but the thing that is the worst is the heating...i like to game on ipad and have invested a bunch of money...these graphic intense games are burning up the left side of the ipad....sucks so bad.....i was so loving how the previous ipad never heated up....any of you guys have heat issues with gaming

When you say let it run, what exactly did you do? Can you help a brother out? Thanks.

The one on the right looks to yellow for me, also from its left to right side there is a noticeable change in color is that just caused by the camera because the unit on the left also has the same issue but its from its right side going to its left.

Lol well the other one is blue. Also one side being brighter than the other is due to sunlight.

Why is it blue?

I set a couple of movies to play from Netflix and one I had loaded on the iPad. Then I set a slideshow. And I used it. Since I had the brightness set so high I didn't use it for long at each setting because it was painful but the movie was ok.

You don't even need to watch, just set something up and let it run, I actually cleaned house. A previous poster mentioned this too. I think the basic notion is to let the screen run at high brightness, maybe it is a 'drying' issue. My iPad is a week 9 (March) so it it relatively new.

Whatever caused it this seemed to clear it up for me. I don't know if it might have cleared up on its own in time or not but I was trying to decide whether to keep it, return it or exchange it before I go on vacation so I needed a solution ASAP. Plus if I decided to return for a refund I only had 14 days.

Try it, can't hurt and might help. I hope it does work for you.

and the measurement says iPad display is "too blue"

http://www.displaymate.com/iPad_ShootOut_1.htm

We know there are variations among the new iPad displays and if you have spots or regions with different color temperature, that's definitely a bad screen. However a "yellow tint" might actually mean you have a more accurate display than the other ones that tend to be too blue trying generate that "pop" in visual.

On a related note, many companies put their screens blue-ish as screens with blue tint tends to stand out more by looking brighter and sharper. The worst offenders my experience were the numerous LCD TVs on the "torch" mode in the stores and Samsung Galaxy S' AMOLED display. Yet I rarely seen anyone complain about them. Instead they were often praised for looking sharp.

why don't people just wait till theres a jailbreak and adjustment settings for the screen? Its just a color difference like on the iPhone4-4s. ones bluer ones yellower. Theres nothing wrong with the screen its just how some are set up. Theres an application to fix this(not really a fix). This is more of a color preference. i like cool colors compared to warm but my iPad is a little warmer it doesn't bother me. comparing the iPhone 4 to this the iPad looks a lot more yellow but when i took it away i didn't notice it. stop complaining...

I ordered 2x 64GB wifi models on the 7th March, they both arrived on the 16th, and both had nice white screens. However one of them had a broken camera (the back camera would work for photos but video mode would show black screen).

I am waiting for that one to be picked up for a refund, and in the meantime I went to Bluewater (Kent, UK) and bought another one. Only when I got home I started to realise it had a yellow tint to it, and this wasn't just compared to my iPad 2, but to the 2 other iPad 3s I currently have. So on Thursday I will be heading back to get another replacement, but I'll take one of my good iPad 3s with me for comparison.

Don't be stupid, it's not a colour preference!

White should be WHITE, not yellowy.

There really is a very simple test to determine if there is a color cast.

Look at any true Black & White image.
IF there is a yellow cast...........................nuff said.

I have the same problem as donnaw, its barley noticeable but once you've seen it it gets annoying, so i dont care what people say thats not how this ipad should be.. so im taking mine back today, some one said you cant expect it to be perfect, well actually i go with apple for one reason, there products are perfect, MAC runs like a dream compared to PC, i pay double the price of other products for apple because they are perfect so i expect the same for my new ipad

I find that when I hold my iPad at an angle, as if I am normally reading with it, there really is no yellowish tint. But when I place it flat on a table or bed and look down at it or change thr viewing angle to one which I wouldn't normally use, there is a yellowish tint.

I definitely noticed it before all of this attention was brought to the issue. But I can't tell if it is just normal for this iPad (ie viewing angles are a little different) or there are enter panels such that it is worth returning.
