REPOST AND UPDATE

Well, went to the apple store to compare..and the demo unit showed a blue tint compared to mine. I then asked for a replacement and they were very accommodating.

Opened first box....more yellow then mine.
Opened second box.....again more yellow then mine.

They wouldn't allow another one....and I completely understand....I was surprised and humbled they even allowed me to try. They could have said no. So I left with mine that I receive yesterday.

So that got me thinking that maybe some are right, and you have to wait a and see if the color changes on its own....since the demo units were most all blue, and maybe over the few days they changed, unlike the two box ones were yellow worse then mine and never got a chance yet.

FYI Mine was purchased online so the myth you can't replace it at the apple store...is just that...a myth.

Here is a pic I took today since mine was delivered yesterday. In a few days will take another pic....and so on....just to see if there is any change.

Ok, here is status updates so far.

When I first got it, it was looking like Bergerfan's here. I left brightness all the way up with no turn off for the last maybe 38 hours.

Now some have argued it will change and others argued it won't. I am only interested in results and I will try all possibilities just to see for myself if they will work or not. If you copy the pics and flick through them you can clearly see the change.

So far my results have worked for me, you're results may very. Best of luck.

Hey Holygrail, thanks for sharing.

I think mine is starting to get less yellowish too, after leaving mine burning for a day, it looks less yellow. However, at that left upper side where there is some backlight bleeding, that part still seems yellow?

Do you have any backlight bleeding problem?

piss yellow?

I swapped out my white, cool iPad for one just slightly warmer with no backlight bleeding. I have seen the pictures here of yellow iPads that look like they have film over the screen, and I would say that my current iPad looks pleasantly warm, but not discolored. Holding it up against my iPhone, i would say the iPhone screen is brighter and a bit whiter, but without they direct comparison I would say my iPad screen is very white.

I took a picture of my iPad alongside my wife's iPad 1 and both of our iPhones using her digital camera. Each device had a solid white screen with the brightness at 100%. In the picture, my iPad is solid yellow and the other devices are very white. Even her iPad 1, which when placed side by side with the iPad 3, I would choose the iPad 3 every single time. I took a second photo of both iPads with the kindle app open, set to a white background on 100%. I would pick the new iPad in the room. In the picture, the iPad 3 is very yellow.

I am by no means a photographer, but is the camera simply not taking a good picture due to operator error or is it seeing wariness in the iPad that my eye does not see in person? More importantly, do many of the pictures posted here also exaggerate the yellowness of some of these screens.

As an aside, I love my iPhone 4 retina display - and for the first time today held it up against my wife's display. Mine is certainly yellow by comparison. As soon as I move hers away, my impression of my phone immediately improves and the whites seem whiter. I would pick hers every time in a comparison but do not mind mine without the frame of reference.

Good question.

Well I checked it, and the light leakage on mine appeared to be in normal range. If yours in that spot is showing too much leakage, I would get a replacement.

Every display from flat tv, to a phone, has some sort of light leakage. You just got to check it to make sure its a small amount.

Do you mind to do me a favor please? :p

Is it possible to take a picture of your leakage? Mine is in a spot that show up whenever I watch movie in a dark room.

Get a black color picture, turn it to 100% brightness and take the picture in a dark room.

Anyone see any problems with my screen?

Anyone see any problems with the coloring of my screen?

Why are you taking screen shot? No one can see your problem if you screen shot, you have to use a camera to take a pic of your iPad.

I uploaded the wrong picture, I had taken the screenshot for something else. I didn't pay attention when choosing the file.

Sure...Here you go.

If the light leak isn't that bad then just save it til next year and turn it in for warranty

By then they will have refurbed models that had light leak directly addressed with brand new batteries and brand new screens

Here is mine, what do you think? Should I exchange it?

I think it look pretty much normal, but I am a little concern of the bottom right (in relation to the pic) but I can't be sure that red-esh light wasn't caused by the camera.

Now days, many flat tv screens have much more light leakage then you do on you're ipad...Just to take that in perspective.

I don't think it looks too bad, but I am a little concern of the bottom right (in relation to the pic) but I can't be sure that lighter shade wasn't caused by the camera.

That is due to camera, I don't notice anything odd when I look at it directly.

But the backlight bleeding is obvious when I watch movie in a dark room. I wonder are they are perfect iPad out there with no bleeding?

Ok so I went into the apple store tonight. I had pretty much made up my mind that I would return my iPad 3. I had leaking light from the top due to a defect. The apple rep in the store insisted that I see an apple genius who looked at my iPad and said yup needs replaced. Two mins later I have a new iPad that they checked for leaking light at the edges and there is no tint (my iPad had a heavy pink tint). I couldn't be happier. :D

Compared my iPad to my wife's iPad. All good!

If you have tint problems take it in!!! Or leaking light from the edges.

Apple has a very happy customer who will come back.

Well you're just going to have to ask you're self, is this going to bother you in the long run...and if so....just replace it. It could have less light leakage, or in a different spot that its not noticeable.

But it could just as well have more.

My opinion? If I saw enough that bothered me then I would have it replaced. If it was a small amount, then no, I wouldn't replace it.

Which model did you get? I am hoping if I wait a week or 12 days to return second defective unit, they should have some new problem-free batches arrive! I am glad to hear you got a perfect replacement!:)

I would like to replace it honestly, but are there any iPads out there with no bleeding at all? Have you seen any iPad that has zero bleeding?

No...I have never seen ANY screen that has no leakage....or as you put it...bleeding. I've always seen some kind of leakage, regardless of who manufactured the panels.

Thanks. :). I got the 16gb black ipad 3. Replacement and original.

OK. Gave up hoping for the best with my first try at iPad 3. Went back to San Tan Village store in Gilbert, prepared to just get a refund. I was told that a Verizon 64 GB was in stock. (They said no earlier when I called. Bizarre.)

In any case, just got it home. Fired it up just to get to the main screen. It is very noticeably brighter and whites are white and not dull off white yellow/green hued. I guess my first one was a lemon indeed. (Not to mention the overheat failure screen that rebooted the thing even though I was only surfing the internet and not gaming or watching video.)

I'm restoring from backup now, but I'm very hopeful, after being prepared to be disappointed again.

If things "just don't look right", I'd say return that bad boy.
