Here is mine, what do you think? Should I exchange it?

Image

I have had light leak on all 3 of the ipads i purchased (ipad 2 x2 and ipad 3). Therefore, I don't think you should bother. I think it is an inherent problem with backlit displays. My LCD computer monitor has this problem as well.

I'm on my 6th 'new' ipad. I'm starting to wonder if there are any available at all that don't have a messed up screen. Four of mine (that I took back) had either half of the screen or a quarter of the screen with yellow tint. Some worse than others, but none acceptable. I tried to be happy with a couple of them, but every time I went to type and my keyboard came up two-toned... it's tough to deal with after just paying $800 and having sold my perfectly good ipad 1 on ebay (with a perfect screen). I'm regretting so much I sold my ipad 1. If I still had it I would continue using it and check back in on the ipad 3 situation in a few months and see if they've put out some decent units.

I think all these people who claim to have a 'perfect' ipad just haven't noticed it yet, are choosing to live with it, or they've never had an ipad before and don't realize the screen is supposed to be perfectly white.

Forgot to mention... my 5th ipad that didn't have a yellower hue was the 'cooler' one people have mentioned. Problem is it has a heavy reddish/purplish tint to it as well. And you have to turn the brightness all the way up to try and make it look right. Ridiculous.

Just keep exchanging until you get one that is not defective, but going through 6 is already too much of an inconvenience, why not consider getting a refund after the 7th and just repurchase 2-3 months after, surely things would be better by then ?

It is super annoying to have the screen yellow only on one side. I'm on my second one now and that have both been yellow at the top. No way that all of them are bad though, my girlfriend has one that looks pretty good.

I really wish this would get more hype in the news. I could care less about the heat or antennagate. Apples biggest problem is half yellow screens, I can't believe I'm back in yellow tint threads it feels like 2010 all over again with my iMac and no one in the media has called apple out on this.

I don't think it's going away by itself either, I had an iPhone 4 with yellow blotches that went away but this is a third of the screen with a slight yellow tint like the iMacs.

OK. Gave up hoping for the best with my first try at iPad 3. Went back to San Tan Village store in Gilbert, prepared to just get a refund. I was told that a Verizon 64 GB was in stock. (They said no earlier when I called. Bizarre.)

In any case, just got it home. Fired it up just to get to the main screen. It is very noticeably brighter and whites are white and not dull off white yellow/green hued. I guess my first one was a lemon indeed. (Not to mention the overheat failure screen that rebooted the thing even though I was only surfing the internet and not gaming or watching video.)

I'm restoring from backup now, but I'm very hopeful, after being prepared to be disappointed again.

If things "just don't look right", I'd say return that bad boy.

I really like that store, the people there really take care of you. I have been to a number of other Apple stores, but that one beats them all.

Been on the same boat with the Galaxy S2, left side was yellowish. It was covered by media sites but didnt get too much attention. Im also wondering why the over heating and antenna gate is getting more media coverage, those are just nitpicked issues as compared to having half of your screen yellow or getting pink tints.

It's weird, there have been a few heat related threads but there have been way more about the yellow screens and this one is 30+ pages long. Consumer reports must be too busy trying to burn their hands to see that there might be a real problem. Gizmodo (before they hated apple) had a bunch of stories about the 27 inch iMac half yellow screens when it came out but they just seemed to forget about it after awhile.

Just wanted to post a comparison of my iPad3 vs my iPad2. Sorry for the long post. All settings on both iPads were identical. Photos taken with iPhone4.

I actually bought an open box iPad 3 16GB WiFi black at Best Buy last night for $449. Nothing wrong with it at all, no yellow tint at all compared to the display models at the store. Wonder why it was returned, looks brand new, the accessories weren't even opened. It's really hit or miss I guess.

I took side by side shots this Mormon of my second iPad 3 replacement and my wife's iPad 1, along with 2 iPhones. The iPad 3 was golden and the other devices were different shades of white. Same with websites. To my eye, the iPad 3 looked the best by far. Do these pictures adequately convey what you see? If I saw a photo of my iPad, I'd hate it.

If I do a replacement can I keep the original if the new one is the same or worse? If not, I'm kind of wary about doing it.

I think these photos exaggerate the tint just a little. It is quite warm, it makes the whites look cream, and the greys look beige.

Does the Ipad2 have a reddish right side or is that caused by the camera?

In the photos the ipad2 looks like it has a red tint on the right side, but this is not noticeable in reality.

I am not sure how many times you can return and return in one visit. I did the same thing Tuesday and said I wanted to swap a perfect screen out bc of backlight issues. They agreed to open the box and let me decide, but wanted to leave the plastic wrap on the screen, which wouldn't work. They agreed to unwrap it and I took that one. Be very upfront that you know many people with screen issues and you are not happy with yours but don't want a deeper dud.

Id like to clarify, not noticeable as in not really there or its something thats there but really hard to see?

Also is the wood actually yellowish or reddish?

The lotus picture looks better on the ipad2.

Thanks, that's what I'll do. 14 day window right? Just double checking.

I've never noticed the red tint on the iPad2 screen, until I looked at the photo.

I think some photos look better on the iPad2, and others look better on the 3. I think the wood is more accurate on the ipad2 (ignoring the red tint).

Yes. I was told if I did another return to ask for the manager, incase I got a run around.

Do you see the red tint when looking at the iPad 2 itself, or just in the picture. Does the wood look red on the iPad 2 itself?

It's not noticeable. I don't think it's red at all, it just looks that way in the picture. Please also note that the yellow tint on the ipad3 photos looks a little exaggerated in the photos. It is a uniform and even warm tint on the entire screen and makes the whites look light custard and the greys look light beige.

Does the wood look red on the iPad 2 itself?

Nope.

Nope.

My pics made mine look worse than my old TV that you had to smack whenever the picture turned yellow. To me it looks fine. Like was said, you will burn out your eyes staring at it and start seeing yellow. If you like it or don't mind it, keep it, but if it demonstrably bugs you, do a return. The pics here make it look worse and you are the only one of us that really sees it.

Bought my iPad 3 on launch day from the Apple Store on Fifth Ave. & immediately noticed the "yellow tint" when compared to my iPad 2.

I tried the "burn in" method, left it on for about 18 hours straight with the brightness at 100% on a plain white screen & now all traces of the dreaded yellow tint are gone. Below are pictures of my iPad 3 (right) next to my iPad 2 (left).

Not saying this will work for everyone, but it might be worth a try before you go through the trouble of exchanging or returning.

YMMV

No...I have never seen ANY screen that has no leakage....or as you put it...bleeding. I've always seen some kind of leakage, regardless of who manufactured the panels.

You need to get some self quality control! Seriously, his ipad is leaking all over the place!!!

My screen was (i got my money back) perfect apart from it being yellow. No leakage or such a ridiculous small about that even at 100 brightness on a black screen in a fully darkened room you could see just a whisker. It was truly impressive and I was reticent to give it up, but the yellow was too much. It didn't change for me even after constantly running movies on it for 3 days.

The light leakage from Seasurfer is bad in my opinion and I would take it back without hesitation.

Looks good. Mine cleared up too.
