Apple just picked up my greenish yellow tinted iPad (leaving it on at full brightness didn't work). I'm a bit annoyed they didn't overnight me the new one and instead want to wait to receive my old one first. Its a waste of my time plus now i'm iPad-less. At this point i'm actually becoming fed up.

If the new one sent to me has a screen that isn't decent, then i'm forgoing the revision altogether. Too much hassle...one which i don't have time for.

Yeah but how is the replacement? I did that yesterday and the new one is worse, yellow at the top blue at the bottom. I left it on 100% brightness on a white page last night too, the iPad was warm when I woke up but still looks just as yellow. I'm going a to give it a week then return it and buy another one so my 14 days starts over.

Still restoring apps but so far so good. will run through some tests shortly. I thought about doing that in the store but forgot about the while restore process.

" REPOST"

Well, went to the apple store to compare..and the demo unit showed a blue tint compared to mine. I then asked for a replacement and they were very accommodating.

Opened first box....more yellow then mine.
Opened second box.....again more yellow then mine.

They wouldn't allow another one....and I completely understand....I was surprised and humbled they even allowed me to try. They could have said no. So I left with mine that I receive yesterday.

So that got me thinking that maybe some are right, and you have to wait a and see if the color changes on its own....since the demo units were most all blue, and maybe over the few days they changed, unlike the two box ones were yellow worse then mine and never got a chance yet.

FYI Mine was purchased online so the myth you can't replace it at the apple store...is just that...a myth.

Here is a pic I took today since mine was delivered yesterday. In a few days will take another pic....and so on....just to see if there is any change.

Ipad 1st gen on the right.
Ipad 3rd gen on the left.

Brightness set all the way up on both. Disregard the different color google readers. That how they were when I took the pic.

Now I don't know if its placebo effect...but yesterday when I got it, it looked
much more yellow then it does today. It a seems its starting to look more white to me...and my ipad 1 is starting to look as the blue gives it a more washout look, but again could be a placebo effect.

But I will keep taking pics to make sure.

Update: 3-18-2012 Been leaving brightness all the way up with no turn off for the last maybe 38 hours.

Ipad 1st gen on the right.
Ipad 3rd gen on the left.

Brightness set all the way up on both. You tell it has changed from the one above.

On this pic, ipad 1st gen is on the left. 3rd gen on the right.

When I first got it, it was looking like Bergerfan's here.

Now some have argued it will change and others argued it won't. I am only interested in results and I try all pssibilties just to see for myself if they will work or not.

So far my results have worked for me, you're results may very. Best of luck.

The higher you turn up the brightness, the more the yellow goes away. Turn the brightness back down to where it was in that original photo, then compare. You might be disappointed.

You have to ask for an express ship exchange. If the rep you speak with pushes back, hang up and try another. If you have AppleCare, they waive the $29 express ship fee. All you need to do is give them a credit card number for collateral (insurance that you'll send the old one back quickly). They don't charge your card, they just put a temporary hold on it.

My replacement already shipped and should be here tomorrow - I called yesterday morning. I want the option to compare the two iPads side by side. If the new one is worse, I'll just send that one back, and setup another express ship to see if the next one is any better.

Very pleased with my first iPad 3; it's almost identical to my calibrated IPS in terms of grayscale. I found my original iPad was too cold (7000k + probably).

iPad 3 (left) - iPad 1 (right)

Wow. From what I can tell, this is the first time I've managed to get a good unit on the first try.

No backlight bleed or dead pixels, no scuffs/scrapes, and the screen temperature is indeed warmer but not yellow. And despite what I was expecting, it's actually brighter than my iPad 1. It seems dark in spots in this picture but the backlighting actually more uniform than the iPad 1.

It kind of makes it obvious how cold the temp on my first-gen was (although not as pink as this photo would suggest).

Now I can actually...you know...enjoy this thing.

Turn the brightness all the way up, put it on a black screen and take a picture of it in the dark. I bet there is blacklight bleed. I've had 3 iPads and all three had it.

My iPad is half yellow. -_-. I'm going to exchange it at Best Buy if it doesn't go away soon.

Has anyone had a problem with stores other than Apple not returning? Telling me to wait a week or so. It was a big box store, but an authorized Apple place. I think they thought because I was a woman, I was clueless. When I told the manager that there were a ton of people on macrumors with this problem, he didn't know what macrumors was. It's pretty pathetic when I have to send my husband to do the dirty work. LOL

Left white screen up for over 24 hours, and since Friday, no change in yellow at all. Disappointing!!

Right, because this is a typical use case..

Lol it's called watching a movie in the dark.

Ok.. The point is that it's perfectly possible to watch a movie in the dark and not experience backlight bleed that you can capture with a camera exposure (max brightness, lights out, etc).

This is an old post. Check a page over for an updated post. The brightness was set the same across all three pics.

Has anyone actually been to a UK Apple store and had an exchange for a perfect white one straight from the box?

I have visited 3 Apple stores now and had 8 new ipads all of which have yellow tints, screen bleeding and possible battery issues.

I have kept one to test the "burn in" theory, but I dont hold out much hope.

Family have 2 absolute perfect bright pure white ones straight from pre-order on day 1.

So I will not settle for anything less.

Cameras make it look worse than it actually is.

As someone who had to return his pre-ordered iPad 3 this weekend because of the hideous yellow-green tint, I can safely say that no, they don't. That's accurate. The defective screens are piss. Everything (particularly browns) have a ghastly, sickly cast.

what do they do with all these returned iPads with yellowish tints?? Something tells me they just repackage them, resell them and hope the next buyer doesn't notice it

This is what worries me, I also had 2 perfect white screens in the original online delivery but one of those had a faulty camera. The replacement I purchased from my nearest Apple store (50 miles away) has the yellow tint and I'm dreading the trip back tomorrow to try and get one that matches the other "white screen" one I have here.

I'm in the UK and normally i don't even have to ask its like the unwritten rule you get express shipping but for some reason that didn't happen this time and didn't realise until late.

Has anyone had a white replacement? By that I mean, one that is without yellow hue entirely?

Well, was going to live with the slightly yellow screen, then today I have a dead pixel show up which seems unacceptable to me. Will be going back to the Apple store tomorrow, and waiting a while to purchase a new iPad. Never had any of these problems with my iPad 2.

Here are three iPads side by side.

Left: iPad 3 16gb
Middle: iPad 3 32gb
Right: iPad 2 16gb

I got the first iPad 3 on the left, and I can't believe it is so yellow compared to the new iPad 3 in the middle.

Edit: And I'm taking back the one on the left. Keeping the 32gb.

I got a yellow one from Best Buy - my wife's black one is perfect but its so obvious when we put them side by side. I want to return mine. Do I have to go to Best Buy or can I stop at an apple store?
