If you guys are measuring the unevenness of the LED backlight, you're going to be disappointed that there is no fix. The side mounted LEDs will always have uneven backlighting because of the manufacturing process of side-mounted LEDs. There are 2 ways to manufacture better screens. 1st is HD Super AMOLED Plus and the 2nd is to manufacture IPS LCDs with LED backlighting mounted from the back. The only method to produce a screen as thin as the iPad screen now would be to go with the HD Super AMOLED Plus screen which would in turn raise costs quite a bit. The main question is: would you be willing to pay a $200-300 premium for the HD Super AMOLED Plus screen? If yes, then you should contact Apple's iPad feedback page here: http://www.apple.com/feedback/ipad.html
If you aren't willing to pay $200-300 premium for the screen on top of the current cost, then we don't need such a high quality screen. It's a cost balancing act and right now the 2012 iPad is doing better than it's competitors for the cost balance. If there aren't enough people that like the added cost for the HD Super AMOLED Plus screen, it means that you're in the minority for wanting a better display at higher cost.

Yeah you have yellowing, ignore it and move on.

I've got to disagree. I mentioned that:

'The iPad's screen doesn't look has white in the pictures, has it does when viewed with the naked eye'

Trying to add a picture onto these forums, and keeping the true color/whiteness to what you see with the naked eye is nigh on impossible.

----------

That looks very uneven to me with yellowing on the right side.

Trying to add a picture onto these forums, and keeping the true color/whiteness to what you see with the naked eye is nigh on impossible and too be honest I think people adding pictures onto here to show a screen issue is pointless because the true color/whiteness to what you see with the naked eye is lost when you try to photograph it.

All in all I really happy with the screen on my replacement iPad, and its free from the yellowing that my last one had :)

Do you have any before shots?

Don't have any before shots because I was ready to return it to Apple. However, it looked just like most of the other photos that people have posted of their yellow tinted screens.

There are a lot of people with "issues" in this thread. And they aren't with their iPad's...

Clearly, like the kind of people who unjustifiably comment on people's character which has absolutely nothing to do with the context of this thread.

AT&T 64gb: mine looks comparable to my wife's iPad 1st gen. It looks much better than the iPad 32gb 3rd gen (that I'm returning because it was yucky yellow). I know, it's a screenshot, not a photo, but I'll take some pics later.

The only thing screenshots show you is how it's supposed to look. THats the graphical data being output by the GPU. If the screen cant reproduce that information at close to the same colors etc, its a defective screen.

Everyones screenshot will be identical, so its not helpful info.

New iPad
iPad 2
iPhone 4S (w.power support antiglare).

I guess I'll be returning it :(

Ok

New ipad 3 is perfect!!!!!!!!

Nice white colors, no dead pixels, no heat!!!!!

People stop complaining about everything, if you have a problem return it

Is wrapping it in a towel safe? I am on my second iPad and it is so yellow. It is really straining on the eyes to read with a yellow background instead of white.

Should I exchange it again or just use the towel method?

Tried the towel method on my wife's iPad and looks alot better. I ran it for about an hour. Instead of using a white image, I ran a youtube video (stuck pixel remover). Figured to kill two birds with one stone. So far no dead pixels or yellow screen. :)

I too have also tried the turning 100% brightness with a white picture and can say it did help with the color. I left it as is plugged in for 2 days straight and can say it does work. After comparing to my iPad 2 the screen color is actually much brighter and the whites are really white. The only problem though is that when I finally took it off and let it cool down the screen will actually show a tint of yellow again. After I use it for a bit when it starts to warm up the screen seems to lose the tint again. Not sure if this is a permanent solution but that's what I have observe so far. Gonna give it a couple more days and see if I have to return it or not.

Is my attached image an example of the yellow tint, or at least a non-white tint?

That's the yellow tint I have on mine, it seems to be the top half on the camera side is more yellow/dimmer than the bottom half that's more white/brighter.

Just visited an Apple Store here in Italy and I looked at 6-7 iPads. Honestly I didn't notice any yellowing (which I looked for) on none of them.

You didn't notice yellow on none of them? Well, that's certainly consistent with comments in this thread.

That's because they always on! When I left my for 6-8 hrs strait, it looked very good but as its left off for a while, goes yellow! See my attach. photo...

Should the yellow tint appear in all brightness settings? I didn't notice any tint when I set the brightness to 100%, but I did notice a slight yellowish tint when the brightness is lower.

I've had the yellow tint on my screen since I received my new iPad and I decided to run it at 100% brightness with a white image for about 18 hours (smart cover on). I wasn't expecting much, if any, change but I was pleasantly surprised to find the screen had a much more neutral whites and tones in general. However, I have some weird faint yellow blotches on the very top edge of my iPad and on the left hand edge when you rotate it to landscape. I really hope this is glue and goes away because right now I have a gradient on my screen from yellow tint to absolutely perfect. It's a shame cause it just draws the eyes always to the non-white area.

Letting it run so that it brightens it up, or dries the glue, that doesn't really work if when the ipad cools down it returns to normal.

Why?

First you need to take a photo straight on. You are over the iPad 2, but at an angle to the iPad 3 which will change the color. On the second photo the iPad 3 and iPhone clearly have nearly the same color. It's clearly the iPad 2 at a different color temperature. There is no right or wrong, but the iPad is the one that appears "wrong" here.

Blue light is actually a LOT worse for the eyes than warm colors.

I even jailbroke my iPad 1st gen to get a tweak to make my screen warmer.

But I think chasing after the perfect iPad may result in a lot of frustration as its probably 1 in 50.

I would disagree, the people who experience the problem are the people who post about it, and not having 3 million posts, it seems that the problem is quite a bit less common than thse forums make it seem.

Advice and Opinion

After a week of moderate use I have noticed that me new VZW 64GB iPad has gotten metter. The yellow tint has seem to have faded, not disappeared but 80% less then where it was when new. Obviously I have a week to return it, but am afraid I will get worse or dead pixels or light bleed non of which I have currently here are some photos.

Curious what you pro's think and whether a return is worth it, the Apple Store is 10 minutes from my house.

Please note this screen has anit glare and was taken with a bit of sun

Wont let me add pictures will do it below
