I have a warmer colour but it doesn't bother me. All the iPad 3's i have seen are warmer but there are definitely some bad defective screens out there.

This is my 32gb 4g, this was bought from the Bluewater store in Kent, UK

Slightly warm of white but nice and easy on the eyes;)

Bill;)

Looks good and very evenly lit to me. Congrats!

Got my third iPad 3 and I think this one is a keeper. The screen is definitely warmer compared to my iPad 1, but at least unlike my first two, this one has uniform color. I couldn't stand the first two where only part of the screen had a yellow tint so you constantly had a point of reference for deviation; the whole screen should either be warm or cool.

I did notice that the right side of my screen in portrait is a bit darker than the rest of the screen. I'll leave bright white screen running over night to hopefully get that area evened out. Other than that, I'm happy with this latest screen. I'll try to post pics tomorrow (my camera is crap so sorry in advance).

Looking forward to your photos!

So you leave your screen on all night plugged to the wall while the screen displays a white image at full brightness?? Doesn't that lead to burn-ins with subsequent clouding effects or something similar?

Thanks mate,

I had 2 duff ones, one was really unevenly warm, and the other was just pink white, this is the first one that hit the spot...

I hope you guys solve your worries, all i can advise you guys is if its bugging you take it back until you get what you want, you deserve that at least for all the hard earned dollars your spending;)

I thought about it more and am not going to leave it bright white overnight. It shouldn't cause burn in with this kind of display, but like you said I am afraid of encouraging backlight bleeding (clouding). I did the bright white trick to my second iPad 3, and although I think it helped the yellow tint a little, it also made the backlight bleed areas grow a bit.

I'll let it charge overnight and restore in the morning. Should have some comparison pics by tomorrow afternoon (comparing iPad 3 to iPad 1).

Well after trying to convince myself my "yellow tinted " iPad was clearing up and looking better today I walked into a bestbuy and bought another 64gb wifi took it home and compared it to my black version bought at apple on launch.

I have to say it puts my original one to shame..side by side the screen even though cooler just looked deeper and crisp so I'm keeping this one

Finally feel like I can enjoy it

Thought I should share my story. I bought my iPad 32 GB wifi at Walmart and it had a yellow tint to the screen. Did I notice it by itself? Not most of the time because my eyes would adjust. Although when I compare it to other iPad 3s in the Apple store it was not only yellow tint but duller colors. Made my genius appointment and got a very knowledgable associate. We compared them to the floor models and it was clear what I was saying was true. He replaced the iPad instantly and the new one was even better then the floor models! The floor models favored blue hues but this one was the closest to neutral that I have seen. So much that it made my iPhone 4s seem very blue. The associate said that he has read about the yellowing online but I was the first to bring one in for it and the first unit he has seen with the issue.

The true color ones are out there.

Remember guys,

You also have a 12 month warranty, give it a few months and if your still not happy swap it out for an ipad with a sharp or lg screen (When they start making them;))

But surely then you will only get a refurb unit as a replacement?

Just returned my and they had no more 16gb in stock, I'll have to wait a little to get another one.

I think mine looks pretty good

launch day 32gig verizon

Pink hue

I had the pink screen issue on a white 32 gb AT&T . It went away after I used it for a while but then it would come back after a while I just couldn't take it anymore I went to the apple store and showed them of course the screen had very little pink tint then it came back and a apple employee saw it but time as I got to a genius it was working correctly again. We comparied display models and found 3 with a pink hue . He never saw it before so I exchanged it then I opened the new one and there it was again pink hue on the new iPad . Ugh he was like that is so weird well we narrowed it down to a serial number that was very similar it seems that a batch of screens have a pink.mi ended up witW a black iPad as the only display models and ones showing pink hue was the white wifi or White AT&T with similar serial numbers. The black is not what I wanted but the screen is perfect and that matters more then the color of the bezel.

I had a few blotches of yellowing on mine around the edges. I'm pleased to say that putting the iPad on my bed while leaving it on full brightness for about 15 hours has cleared up ALOT of the yellow...95% of it. I don't think it's possible to get rid of it all in one go, but If you leave the iPad for a few nights in a row using this method I think it will fix it for most of you. The ones with more yellowing probably take longer to fix up than the ones with a little bit. Good find!

A little update on my situation!

I'm returning my 1st iPad to Apple due to the overall screen tinge & dullness of display but the courier isn't collecting until Monday. In the meantime I ordered another iPad from Amazon to compare side by side in the comfort & normal light conditions of my own home.

The Amazon supplied one is brilliant, nice & white with pretty amazing vibrancy to the colours, I can finally see what people have been raving on about. Unfortunately the new unit has one dead pixel and a 2mm black mark under the screen (not sure if it's dirt of an internal scratch or whatever!) which is very apparent against any non black or dark background! Also the hotspot at the back of the unit seems to be casting (yet again) a mild yellow/darker hue to the screen, probably a 2"x2" patch, very apparent when I pull the keyboard up in landscape mode.

So......the new one is also going back! The whole business is driving me slightly insane if I'm honest but yes, when they iron out the heat issues & the production faults the new screen is pretty amazing......so amazing that (like mentioned elsewhere) apart from colour reproduction & text crispness, most general content looks identical or actually worse than the iPad 2, given that images etc are now having to fill 4 times as many pixels.

Anyways, blah blah blah right!? I'm gonna get refunds on both units and sit this one out for a couple of months, then try again!

The one from the Apple store by far looks the best. The best example would be the picture of the girl on the beach. Skin tone looks much better on it.

I think I did this earlier. But I am going to attach a .mp4 that you can play on your iPad. It is grayscale patterns used for calibration (which you cannot do). BUT look for the pattern that says 100%. This is 100% video white. What white actually is.

Don't mean for this to sound harsh or mean at all. And this is not directed to just you. But before returning a bunch of iPads, why don't you spend some time and learn about what displays are supposed to look like (i.e. calibrated/6500k color temp/etc....)

I am seeing a little pinkish cast on the left side of my screen in portrait mode. Is this a known issue? Quite visible on white pages.

Perhaps in this photo you might be fooled into thinking the Apple store one has better skin tone etc but trust me, in person, it gives off a yellowish/green tinge, especially to skin tone, both photos & movies.

I'm very particular about picture reproduction & what is pleasing to MY eye. I'm not interested in numbers or figures, just in what looks right & comparible to my HD plasma tv picture.

Unfortunately both the pads I purchased have defects, I'm sure other people out there received perfect ones, not saying they're all bad.

Has anyone thought that the extra heat behind the screen is causing that yellowish tinge? I'm sure the Amazon one was fine out of the box but after an hour or so of playing round with it & comparing it to the others I noticed not only had it heated up, it also had developed that little 2" darker patch.

It would be nice of Apple to release some kind of statement as obviously people are having problems -- we're not all pedantic fools who's eyes are playing tricks with us :)

I've just tried an interesting test: I take both my iPhone 4S and my iPad 3rd Gen (and also my NEX 5n), put them in photo.app, and aimed both at a nice and colorful scene (from my window). Then, you just have to look at both screens a find witch one is closer to what you really get in front of you! I've done this these 4 times on 4 different spots and light conditions.

The screen that is the most respectful of the scene is definitely the 3rd gen iPad. No competition here. The worst screen? My brand new Sony Nex 5n with a very (very) high blue and magenta hue!! Incredible.

They swapped me out, but this one is even worse. I'd be totally fine with if it was just uniform. I couldn't even ask for my old one back, the genius dropped it as he was going to swap it.
