Here is my new replaced iPad 3 after the stuck pixel ordeal:
The photo was taken with the MBP i7 17" and the Whitebalance set for the MBP screen. If I set it to the room color temp, you would not see anything differently:

All screens on 100% brightness
(guess which one is iPad 3)?

I kept thinking maybe the right of my screen was a bit warmer than the left, so I tried the split keyboard test someone used earlier in the thread, what do you guys think?

Not sure if I want to return it, this is my 2nd one because the last one had a chip in the aluminum and a dead pixel. I guess if I can live with it I don't want to risk getting anything worse.

Negligible. I'd stick with the one you have. From my experience, you could end up with much worse!

Omg I just walked into currys in Greenwich London, UK and have seen the first absolutely flawless iPad, mine is now winging its way back to apple distribution. My good god it had NO yellow OR pink whatsoever and was as bright as the ipad2 sitting directly next to it.

Am convinced we are being deceived with this calibration **** now, apple didn't want us to have these 'warm screens'.

Bill

This is the picture of the ipad i took in the currys shop, can you see any flaws?

Obviously your whitebalance is way off. Look at the iPad's white bezel. It's not even white.

Calibrate it first then take a shot. Or else this proves nothing. What's interesting is that in person, you can see the difference between identical screens but when photographing it, you have to make sure your white balance is correct.

I had a 32GB Wifi that had a nice screen, maybe a bit red, but it was acceptable to me.

I then decided I needed more space and bought a 64GB Wifi and it has the dreaded yellow tint. I'm going to return it and buy 2 more 64GB Wifi's tomorrow and hopefully one of them won't have the tint. Is there any point buying 2 at a time? Do they usually have very similar serial numbers and displays?

I have a similar problem. My launch day 64gb WiFi unit has no yellow tint issue, but does have a pink area near the bottom and to the right.

Apple sent me a brand new (boxed & sealed) replacement (without me having to pay anything, or leave a credit card deposit, I merely had to return my original one after the new one had arrived), but this replacement one has a definite yellow tinge over the whole screen, and it in fact make the whole image appear softer than the launch day iPad 3 I bought.

I now don't know whether to send both back, and get a refund on my launch day unit (I have a 64Gb iPad 1 I can use for now), or send the replacement back, and live with the pink area, but no yellow tinge on my launch day unit.

I really feel that we shouldn't have to make such choices for $800+ pieces of tech.

My original launch day iPad 3 looks like your image on the right, except it has an annoying pink area to the bottom/right (mainy visible on white screens).

The replacement unit Apple sent me looks like your left image, and I simply do not like the washed out yellow tinged image it produces.

I would return it, personally.

I think it's acceptable when it's got a uniform Yellow screen.

I think it's the uniformity of the white color that concerns the users most.

My iPad's top left screen is so yellow that it entirely affects my reading experience. I keep trying not to read or surf the net in landscape more cuz the dimmer part is so obvious

i see your dilemma i would lean more to keeping the clear one with the pink.. because the warm yellow glow is just irritating.

I think that is very yellow mate, that was like my first one;(

Dude, look at the bezel which everyone agrees on is perfect white, that's a good reference point and evens out any white balance issues there might be with the camera fromwhich those shots were taken.

The left screen pretty much matches the bezel 100%, which is what you want. It's perfect.

The panel on the right is way too blue, especially noticeable when compared to the whie bezel...

I personally don't think a tint is much of an issue. As long as it's uniform throughout the entire screen. Blotching or dead pixels are probably legitimate problems. Just my two cents.

The one on the left is better (iPad 3). The one on the right is far too cool for my tastes. Both are good, though. I'd probably keep both if it were me. :)

Your pretty oblivious. Wiki what white balance is. Then go back there and reshoot the pic. Your post is of no value when the white balance is off, son.

Oblivious seems to be your forte, son...

I had proof with my own eyes in the shop, the ipad 3 was the same colour as the ipad 2 I have nothing to prove... I know what I saw.. Maybe leaving your ipad on constantly for a week or so may liven it up?

Has anyone had any improvement on the yellow blotches?

B;)

Swapped my iPad today, The new one is perfect. Serial shows its production week 2.

**** thats early,

I dont think production weeks matter much based on all the evidence we have seen so far;(

Took some more pics today, I just don't want to return it to get a worse replacement. :(

@Vito...your screen at the bottom area looks pretty much like the one I returned, except mine had splotchy areas of red, green and grey in addition.

If that were mine, it would be going back. I simply can't see spending the kind of money these cost and have to "live" with that poor quality.

I am "fortunate" in that I held off selling my great iPad 2. I will continue to use it until mid summer on the off chance that this mess will get sorted out a bit. Too much stress in life to have to deal with constant returns of inferior products.

I agree, I just can't live with it like this, it shouldn't be so bad IMO. I want to see if a replacement might be a whole lot better. There seems to be folk who do have iPad's with no screen issues.

You sticking with your iPad 2 for the time being?

Yeah, just like mine. I'm getting a feeling that most screen are like this...

It seems that way, have you had yours replaced?

The first iPad3 I got had a blue tint in the top left corner. I exchanged it and got another one with half the screen having a blue tint.

I tried the burn in method, where I left a movie playing overnight for a couple of nights. It did improve things, but the blue tint is still there, just lighter than before.

With these tints, it's hard to read text on light backgrounds.

This probably has something to do with the color filters they opted to improve rather than improving the backlight:
http://www.cultofmac.com/156150/new-ipads-color-filters-alone-eat-30-more-battery/
"Jeff tells us that, in order make the colors of a display better, you need to improve either the backlight or the filters. Apple chose the filters"

I've returned my iPad. I'm sticking with the iPad 2 for now. I don't see myself experiencing this inconvenience again in a few months as at that time, we're only a few months away for the 4th gen iPad. Save your money. The iPad 2 is lighter and has an even tint.

Returned mine (pink/green tinge) this morning and UPS/Apple just picked up my smart cover. Will try again in a month or two or never. *shrug*

Nahhh, too lazy, I might so one day. Sounds like it's not worth it, though. If I exchange it I'll do it once max, I just don't have the inclination to do it 10x like others  It bothers me talking to Apple Geniuses even though they are great always, neber had a bad experience. I just don't want to go in there and start explaining that areas of my display are darker than others, that just ain't sthg I enjoy doing...

I mean it still works fine, I'm not in love with this thing or any other gadget, in fact everything I own has some imperfections if looked closely enough, I just use it to acquire knowledge on the web or play a game... And I will get the iPad 4 anyway so this thing will be gone in 12 months max :D

So I am goong to use it for another few weeks and then decide if the uneven backlight bothers me enough to get my lazy butt off the couch, lol

Yep no yellow just those bands

It'll be a matter convincing the genius there's a problem which is sometimes difficult!

Yeah, I'd feel stupid and paranoid explaining my issues while being oggled upon wide eyed

I'd feel like an uptight ass telling him to look at the shift key on the left side which is about 13.7% darker than the right obe when looked at 20% degree angle from the bottom in portrait mode or sthg like that...
