I bought two New iPads and one was much warmer (brownish) looking display than the other. I restored the iOS software on the warmer iPad with a clean install and it came out with a similar blueish to white look as the other iPad. Now Mom has a great looking display and I didn't have to return it.

Reseting the iOS on an iPad doesn't fix tint issues.

Had to get a replacement for other issues, and this one has the left side if the screen noticeably darker than the right side

Ugh

I'm just going to take my Amex and buy 10 of them till I find the right one and return the rest. LOL. JK.:D

My 8th iPad and although not being 100 percent, this is definitely the best yet;) I think I finally have a keeper;)

B;)

Not to rain on your parade, but there seems to be a green tint in the bottom right and a pink tint in the upper left. This is EXACTLY the same issue I have. The screen otherwise looks great, but I do so much reading and web browsing on the thing that the difference in tints is sort of noticeable and sort of annoying. Certainly isn't an issue on my iPad 2.

Agreed there is a green tint in the bottom right side, but after having so many ****** yellow technicolour raincoat screens im finally happy to get one that is 90 percent right. No pink hue though;)

I figure when they make right the process in a few months i will swap it out then, that is if it bothers me or doesnt clear up (possible glue issue) ;)

If you have a white iPad, Look at the Bezel with the screen turned off. You will also see shades of yellow. I think yellow is a shade of white depending on the way light hits it. JMO

Fair enough, and that's what I'll be doing as well. I hope these other screen manufacturers come online soon if they haven't already.

Just got my iPad replaced today. My first one had left side darker as well as some green upper left. The "genius" (ridiculous name) agreed and swapped it out. But now I'm out almost out of my 14 days refund policy (ends tomorrow) since it wasn't technically a refund and re-buy. I guess I know how I'll do it if I ever want something swapped again.

The new one has uneven lighting (left side darker) and some dead pixels. I think I could live with the uneven lighting maybe but for now I'll return it for a refund and wait it out until they sort these issues out. My trusty old ipad 1 will do for now...

These screens are definitely sub par. I actually like it that they are warmer but "green"/pink tints patches and uneven yellowness is not something acceptable in a small screen since they become so obvious for many of us. it's more tolerable and less obvious in a 30" monitor. I guess some years of desktop publishing make all these things all the more visible...

Ok, I finally have what I would call a 90% good white screen, and fairly even all over.

It has minimal/medium lightbleed on full brighness in the dark.

So my quandry now is this - Do I

(A) Still return it under the 14 day money back guarantee and just keep dong that until I get a better one.

(B) Keep this one for a while until maybe better ones become available in the future and swap it then.

The only problem I can see is that if I keep it how will Apple respond to a genius swap in the future? - Could they say No? - Argue the screen is within spec?

And what if I got a worse one even then?

Photos taken with iPhone 4. 100% brightness.
top: iPad 1
bottom: iPad 3

To me, it's pretty much an even yellow tinting. No heavy bleeding. I can probably can live with it, but I feel like i'm making a compromise. I do feel the ipad 3 is sharper and vibrant.

What do you think? Should I exchange? Return and wait? I feel like if I exchange, I'll get something comparable, or even worse in return (judging by people who have already made exchanges).

PS: EDIT: "If you’d like to return an item, click Return Items to ship the item back to us, or take your item to any U.S. Apple Store."

PS: Since I purchased on the online apple store, can I return it at the physical apple store? Or do I have to ship it back?

Would you have noticed anything if you didn't have the two side by side?

Returned my new iPad and waiting for the new replacement

After seven days with then new iPad the distinct yellow tint didn't fade out. I bought it same day & same store with a friend of mine at an Athens Apple Premium Reseller (no Applestore yet...). His display was very close to the performance (of white) of the iPad 2.
So today i went to the store, had it compared alongside to the new iPad's in their exhibition panel. The yellow tint was so distinct that the employee immediately agreed to send it for replacement with a new one.
In Greece every Apple Premium Reseller offers a 10 day DOA. Replacement does take place immediately at the store. Approval is needed from the official service department of Apple's distributor in Greece. Once granted, then the availability of the unit replacement depends on available stock.
To summarize, in one week (at least) i hope that i will have a fine tuned new iPad.

A lot of these early "new" iPads are being shipped direct from the factory, and if the glue used to attach the glass has not fully cured it will cause a yellow tint. However, the yellowing fades away once the glue is fully cured (about 2 weeks from time of application). This happened with the first runs of the iPhone 4, iPhone 4S, and iPad2 as well.

Good question, but I think I would have noticed it eventually. My ipad1, iphone4, and my dell LED/LCD all having good whites.

If you would notice it without looking at the two iPads side by side then you might want to return it and try again. The tough part is having an iPhone that has a cooler screen than the iPad, especially if you prefer the way that the iPhone looks. That is something that I have been struggling with and today is the last return day for me. I really don't want to return it because the one I have is actually pretty good with no noticeable light bleed but the top left corner (by the camera in portrait) is more yellow than the rest of the screen. I can only notice it on white web pages holding the iPad in a specific way but because I have seen it, I will look for it.

Just got off the phone with AppleCare, and they are sending a replacement iPad because mine had a yellow tint on the top third of the screen - especially toward the right side.

I was originally just calling to ask about my AppleCare plan, because it hadn't registered properly, but I asked about the yellow tint while I had them on the line. The person I was talking to then told me to hold on while he brought in a 'specialist'. I asked him if it was like the iPhone 4's that had yellow tint that went away as the glue dried. He said no, and that he was aware of a few others that had manufacturing defects.

Just thought I'd share my experience. My new one should get here Tuesday.

The one that's being replaced is a week 5... since people seem to care about that in this thread. :)
