Ciao, italian too here. Did you get a 14 days refund option while buying in a physical store or did you get it online ? As far as i know there's no refund option in Italy for non-online purchases.

I bought it online. I'm going to replace it in a physical store..
Hoping genius guys will be affable as usual..

I'm sure it was actually 11 times but you remembered just how embarrassing an act it was and have now chosen to lie for the sake of reinstating your dignity and even so, passing out as if 7 is something to be proud of reflects small characters with big egos.

Truth is, making repeated use of terms like 'B grade' and 'A grade' among other egotistical turn of phrases typifies small characters with narrow angles of vision only concerned with what's best for them despite their actions being entirely uncalled for.

I'm glad you have the time to make countless returns to a particular store for what is, essentially, an electronic device that is perfectly functional with a problem that seemingly a limited scope of -- on the dole -- people take issue with.

I'll respond to this. The iPad is a GIANT SCREEN. I look at the screen. The screen is used to interact with the device. I read the on the screen.

- If there is a piece of dust under the glass.....hell yeah I'm returning it

- If the screen....the most important part.....doesn't look good to me....hell yeah I'm returning it.

- If the screen is dark tinted on one side and lighter on the other and I notice it and it interrupts my reading a book.....hell yeah I'm going to return it.

A lot of all this is personal....and subjective. In my case....my iPad would be 100% perfect for my wife.....she can't see the problem. BUT I CAN! I see it all the time. I paid $600 for a device....I expect to be able to use it as intended.

I don't really care if people but and return 50 iPads. If there is an issue where someone has a problem, it's their right to return it.

And I love how people complain about "if you have the time to make returns". What do you care what I do with my time? Maybe I make all my money in the first 3 days in a week and have the rest of the time off?

C'mon guys.....this is not a cheap device. If there is something wrong with it.....even if it effects just you.....then you should return it. Do you buy a pair of shoes that don't fit right? I'm sure they fit someone else right....why won't you buy them? If I see something on my iPad that bothers me.....I'm going to do everything in my power to return it. I've heard people returning iDevices because the home button sticks up a little.....or the Cellular plastic plate isn't smooth and has rough edges. FINE.....that bothers someone and they should be allowed to be happy with a product they paid money for.

Even if I was on the dole, (which I certainly am not), I will defend a £600 purchase with all the weapons at my disposal.

I had 7 exchanges yes but I have viewed 11 pads, every one had valid reasons for non acceptance or return. There are also other people here that have done the same. So instead of kicking off at your fellow man, why don't you try understanding that we are not getting a good product.

Before this I have never returned an apple product as they have all been top class, this has sadly fallen below that standard. In my job I am writing emails all day, now if I have my pad on my lap surely it shouldn't have a green haze over it? My iPad 2 didn't.

Thanks Kev, you put that much more eloquently than I could. I agree with everything you said. People must have very busy lives if they can't find an hour to return a faulty 600 pound iPad.

This guy has got a bee in his bonnet over something, we will see him again;) Too many generalisations and assumptions.. He has no place in a logical discussion

If a green tint bothers you so much you have to exhange a product 7 times you really ought get your act together instead of being overly concerned that you have to share your despair on an Internet forum.

As has been said many times in the past, all screens suffer from miscalibration so even if there is minor or no tinting the screen will never be perfect but I guess because of the all the fuss made on this single issue here it's led to some major knee jerk reactions from some. So in reality, all your apple products were likely not perfect as you seem to claim.

Point being, don't get bogged down by something that wouldn't be an issue if it weren't trumpeted across an Internet forum.

So I finally returned my sixth iPad for a full refund yesterday and told myself I'd wait a month or two. Well, today they are back in stock at a few local stores and I'm thinking about trying again. Hoping maybe they got a better batch this time.

Should I try again or save myself from the frustration of getting another unsatisfactory unit?

I would hold off Nick, wait for the iPad 4th gen, and then give it a 1 month wait after release for them to iron out issues;)

Technically the people that are seeing the issues are very attentive people with high levels of attention to detail. That actually makes you a prized commodity. It also means you wont settle for 2nd best, so all of you give yourself a pat on the back;)

I've accepted the not-so-great viewing angle. I've also accepted it having a pink tint from an angle. What I can't get over is a yellow screen (partial or full), dead pixels or dust under the screen. I'm not looking for perfection, just something good enough to justify my purchase.

I understand you mate, i have only had one that hasn't had the yellowing on 1/3 of the screen which is most prominent when the keyboard is used. Its the iPad lottery im afraid;( And its not weighed in our favour.

The ipad 2 and 4s lottery was weighed in the favour of good over bad but this is most definitely the opposite. I was lucky because i got fantastic 3GS, 4, 4S and ipad 2 out the box, this has been my first run in with really bad Apple QC;(

How about we all get along before the Mods close the thread? ;)

Let's put it this way.....if you don't have a problem with your iPad....and don't have any constructive advice for people with problems....then please go post in the "Happy iPad owners thread".

Otherwise....this thread is for us that have issues.....and would like to discuss with others.

I'm a little confused. First i'm not returning anything as I don't dislike mine.

But mine does look a 'little' yellow at an angle. But dead-on it's not yellow.

A lot of the shots in this thread and others are at angles.

I suggest that when you buy one, use it for a short time and don't look for defects. Trust your instincts. If it seems fine it is, believe me; you will know right away.

I've had Laptops that have had serious issues with the screens and with some of them it's ok, even serious defects. Other ones, I just know it would always bug me, just form the first few minutes of using it.

Point is: Just trying to save a few people endless stressing. :D (as if that's going to work :D )

note: Got to say though, web pages look really cool on these :)

I registered just to post my experience, long time reader of this forum by the way. My first iPad had an uneven yellow tint and seemed dim and dull compared to my iPad 1 so I returned it just before the 14 day return window expired. The Geniuses at the Apple store agreed that it was unacceptable but couldn't exchange it because I wanted to upgrade to a 4G model so I did a return. After waiting a week for new stock, I purchased a new one yesterday. Wow, what a difference! This new iPad has crisp whites, a vibrant, even display with colors that pop unlike the first one, and is much brighter even at lower settings. I have compared it to a co-workers who is oblivious that hers suffers from a yellow tint ( I didn't have the heart to tell her as her return window closed but ignorance is bliss) and there simply is no comparison. If you have one with a yellow tint there ARE great displays out there! For the life of me I can't understand why some people on this forum can't understand that because they are happy with theirs that others may have received one with a defect.

Tonight I finally took mine into the Apple Store and got it swapped out. I got my new iPad on day 1, and kept my iPad 2 around in case I didn't think it was worth it. Well, the retina display sold me. But, off the bat, I noticed that the display wasn't as bright on the new vs the iPad 2. I chalked it up for being a different display technology and I should be able to live with it. Now 3 weeks later, I just can't stand it. I took it in, compared it to the other iPads in the Apple store, and determined that yea, the yellow tint is bad. The Apple guy swapped it out w/ a retail box unit, and had me power it up. Immediately I could tell the new unit did not have the yellow tint and was a lot brighter then the original one. Happy iPad user once again, and my iPad 2 can go:)

You can return iPad bought in Apple store within 14 days from the date you bought it. There is data di restituzione printed on your bill. I returned mine that way in Turin store last week. They didn't ask any questions just checked if it is ok and if you have all the accessories including those little paper guides :D

If you bought it online i think you have to start online return process. But call them and ask.

This is how I think a normalus iPad should look, my mates one is like this too.

http://m.youtube.com/watch?feature=mhee&v=cMR8ljiD-vg

Pretty uniform and very nice I would say;)

B;)

The colours in this video are pretty off, look at the yellow on the "photo" icon. thats not yellow. Looks washed out. He could have bad yellowing and it would not show. Plus i would say this look far too blue. Must be his camera settings.

I quite like that blue, that was the same look of my ipad 2;)

Congratulations mate, you won the iPad lottery;)

Seriously though, i would rather a deep blue cool ipad over any warm tint whatsoever, i would not mind my blues being purple for the sake of nice whites;) Or what my eyes deem to be nice whites;)

Hey,

I've had my 3rd generation iPad for a week now, and (call me crazy if you want) I think the slight yellow tint I had got better.

Here are two pics of my iPad (left), iPhone 4 (middle) and MacBook Pro (right).

Which one to you think has the best colors (I don't know anything about screen calibration)?

What brightness setting is the ipad on? 100%?

I'm getting really sick of this. Of the four iPads that I've had a chance to inspect, 2 have had a yellow-orange tint on the left side of the screen, and 2 have had a green tint in one corner.

I wish I had the time or energy to keep swapping them out until I get one of the perfect ones I see in this thread, but the nearest Apple store is an hour away.

This has left a very sour taste in my mouth. Not counting the iPad 3s, I have had a total of 5 iOS devices, and the only issue I've ever had was an iPhone 4's home button acting up (which was promptly replaced). Now it seems like every iPad 3 has a faulty screen.

The way I see it, I have 3 choices:

  1. Stick with my current iPad, and see if the yellow tint on one side disappears or if I can get used to it (both are doubtful)
  2. Try to return it and buy another one in a few weeks. I'm past the 14-day return deadline but a Genius said I could talk to a manager about getting store credit.
  3. Keep getting it replaced when I have the time for a 3-hour round trip to the Apple Store and back, and hope I eventually get a good one

I don't even care about whether the overall tint is yellow, I just want one that's uniform. I've read that some people in this thread have done replacements via mail - how does that work? Do you have to call Apple for that?

Hi mate,

My theory is that the brown box iPads are all lower grade stock and that the prime stock is being placed in the retail boxes. I managed to get rid of mine for a small loss, now I will use the UK distance selling regulations to my advantage and keep buying and returning retail stock until I get a good one. Its a joke we have to go through this;( If your in the UK I would advise you also go this way.

I think you're right about the brown box stock. Unfortunately I'm not in the UK, so whatever distance selling regulations are, I can't take advantage of them. I'll try to live with it or see if it goes away, and if neither of those happen then maybe I'll try to get the store credit. The problem with the store credit is that I get one chance with a retail unit, and if it has an issue then I'm back to square one.
