I've tried QT, quality is pretty much the same.

Yes, it is awful. I complained to Apple and returned my 2018 Air within 48 hours. FaceTime is one of my main apps I use regularly on Mac -- gets about 6 hours of usage daily, to patients and family members.

DrJohnnyN, how did you manage to return it? I complained to Apple customer service and they are saying they accept the returns only if there are 2 hardware issues and in my case it is a software issue that they are aware of but didn't solve it yet :/

Which software issue are you talking about? This shi*ty camera is a hardware issue, not software. Even Apple is not dumb enough to make camera quality crap for months by software.

Right. Honestly, i don't care whether it's software or hardware, I just want it to work at least enough to be useful. What's the ridiculous apple policy on no returns on the unsolved software issues anyway? So, share with me please, where did you complain in order to be able to get rid of it?

There should be a serious legal action about these cameras, as it's a clear example of false advertising. Apple is really pushing lies too far these days. It always cracks me up when any company does that. I paid a full price, so they better deliver a full product.

No way:( they promised 720p. And there is awful quality but 720p. Legally clean, shame to Tim Apple....

Not sure why you're having an issue returning the defective device. I purchased mine from an official Apple Store and they accepted the return no questions asked. Are you still within the 14 day return window?

It may be technically 720p (I don't know how they did it, I've never seen so bad quality on any 720p device), but they also said "sharp detail". This is where it should get started.

Good luck in the court! They of course will present some ideal light conditions when details become sharp. Good luck again, sincerely!

Sadly, I didn't purchase mine from an official Apple Store, but from an store that just sells Macs in Europe, so apparently they don't need to follow the same return policy. I could still return it if there was something "wrong" with my computer but it is not, as it is exactly the same (crap) as all the other MacBook Airs they are selling in the store. I contacted the European Apple customer support and their tech staff. 14 days later and endless discussions I got an answer there is a software problem but they can't let me know which software exactly, on which computers it runs and when they will solve it if ever. "They are aware of it and working on it". And I can't return the comp as it doesn't have 2 hardware malfunctions. Unbelievable!

Type on it a lot, I'm pretty sure your keyboard will eventually get screwed like most butterfly keyboards :D

hahaha actually it did already, some keys don't work properly already. Not to mention the trackpad issues. Just a complete disaster, no comparison to the older version whatsoever. I think this is it with macs for me

What is it that you are experiencing with the trackpad? I find mine quite alright, but not as good as in the previous MBA. Sometimes I try to zoom and it feels like the trackpad is not as "slippery" as it used to be in older MacBooks. I need to do it twice sometimes.

Mine is super sensitive, it double clicks at a slightest touch, makes it hard to drag items around as it clicks before you can grab it. I've set it to slow but can't see a difference.

That sucks! Mine never does that. This crap is all lottery now. Screens, touchpads, keyboards - each unit has different flaws. And how do we call products that are uneven? Cheap products. Again, Apple selling cheap sh** for luxury prices.

Seriously, I just picked up a new Mac Air 2018 13 for work to replace a 2015 model, and just did an A/B test in photo booth. I do a lot of videos for work, so this is important. And the 'upgrade' is HORRIBLE. The second image - the clear one - is the 2015 one. This first grainy horrible one is the new one. Are they serious???

Hey buddy, this camera is indeed terrible. „Luckily” this is not just your case, all new MacBook Airs and even Pros have these cameras. This camera is a joke. And screenshots don’t express enough how bad they are. Video quality during calls is the worst I have seen in years. I seriously feel ashamed to use it to call my clients, because it looks like I’m using some cheap ass Acer or whatever.

Wow, that's a pretty big difference in camera quality. Wondering if they're using smaller sensors on the newer models.

I've had a lot of keyboard problems with the newer generation laptops, but never issues with the trackpads. I think they're the best in the industry. I'm much happier with the solid state trackpad.

Yes, they are using smaller sensors. But trust me that on video it looks 100x worse.
If you're spending in excess of $1,500.00 for a laptop, you should not need an external web cam just to get a decent picture.

By the way, the camera on my 2017 iMac is also crap, so the issue isn't limited to laptops.

Our new reality. Apple’s desire to get every penny of profit from their hardware that they can get away with. Who knows how much even upgrade for next release of ‘the next big thing’

New apple ad for the MacBook Air just dropped

“Face Time like it’s *1999”

*We mean 2007 but it didn’t have the same ring to it - Apple Management
