Mine is going back!

So yeah, the chemical smell is just horrible. Its not just a bad smell, it is actually caustic/head ache causing. I feel sick to my stomach after smelling it. Its been four days and the smell is still there, tho not as bad.

Too bad, cuz I really like the form factor of the case. Even if the smell goes away, it is always going to be in the back of my mind that there are some weird and toxic chemicals leeching into my skin whenever I hold it.

Maybe Im being stupid, but the smell has just ruined the case for me. There are going to be plenty of great cases out for a product as popular as the iPad, there is no need for me to settle like this.

I'm in Canada, where is the best place for me to order one of these yoobao case?

The odor issue is getting so overblown. I can't smell it all unless I press my nose up against. I don't have plans to do lines of blow off it so I think I'm good.

Maybe you guys got defects

Is Amazon.com available for you? I bought the brown Yoobao through the Amazon market place. A company called AYL. Shipping was fast. Two days from California to New York. The smell was bad right out of the box but after a couple of days, it's gone. The case is just what I was looking for.

Amazon.com and that AYL do not ship to Canadian address.

If it was just a bad smell that would be one thing.

However, it's a chemical smell that causes headaches and I'm sure is not healthy for you at all. It's like breathing in paint fumes.

If the smell doesn't bother you that's great. But it has just really turned me off at this point. I'd rather spend the same amount of money on a case that doesn't have these issues.

Just MHO.

After using this case for a week or so I've decided it's a short term case until more are available. I started having issues with the sleep wake functions (goes to sleep when folded back and wakes up when closed as the lid tends to slide over enough that the magnets lose contact).

The problem that is a deal breaker is that when used in portrait mode using the case as a stand, the iPad tends to slide down (the flap is inadequate for holding it in place) and then various cutouts become misaligned.

I really like the slim profile of the case but will be looking for a nicer version of this to replace it.

Im thinking about getting rid of mine. (edit: never mind seller accepted my return)

I just emailed *K* asking for return instructions. There is no way I can use this case after dealing with this horrendous smell issue. It doesn't matter if the smell goes away now (4+ days later), the case just seems toxic to me.

I'm bummed, because I do like the design of this case.

Wow!

More and more i'm deaing with extremely toxic products form China. All sorts of things that involve plastics.

They have no safety standards and their imports are so numerous they can't be monitored effectively.

My feeling is that if your body is telling you something, for GOD'S sake listen to it. Who knows what some of these chemicals are doing.

I had a plastic case that came with a device a few years back that had the terrible toxic odor. I aired it out for about 5 days. It did no good. I had a hunch that it would ALWAYS be toxic. If the smell didn't diminish at all in five days at all, it wasn't going to go away EVER.

So I wrapped it up and put it in storage. 18 months later I took it out AND IT WAS THE SAME! I was driving it home and had to open the car windows. Finally I just threw it out the window. ( Later I regretted this as what I had just done was an illegal Toxic dump. :D )

This isn't the only time i've dealt with toxic odors that don't go away. Some plastics seem to have a very long half life, while they chemically break down in the air and slowly give off fumes.

A nightmare.

I'm afraid I'm going to need to do the same thing. This case has exactly the form factor I wanted, but even after airing out for three days now, every time I try to use it, I get a headache and feel sick. The smell was reduced after the first day, but it hasn't diminished much since then. I'll give it a few more days, but I'm starting to look at alternatives.

I'll be disappointed if this case does't work out, but I admit I'm also disconcerted by what I'm experiencing.

The smell is deal breaker for me now too. I just feel nauseous when I'm using the case and the smell remains on my hands. Too bad as this would have been the perfect case, but a good point was made above about listening to what your body's telling you.

im pretty sure that wrapping it up and putting it in storage is the exact opposite of airing it out. It still smelling after that was your fault haha.

I've had mine for a few days now and the smell is nearly completely gone. By the third day I could only smell it if I put my nose right up next to it. For all the people putting some sort of solution or stuff like that on your case, make sure it's not trapping the odor in even more. I just put my iPad in once it arrived and manned up about the smell. It's basically completely gone now.

I don't have very many issues with the magnets when flipped around the back either. I tried making a crease as far up on the case as possible when folded. So now whenever I fold it back and lay it flat, I can see a good 2 centimeters of the inner lining, meaning that the magnets are much further away from the edge of the iPad.

So far so good, I love this case. Great deal for $40 too. Why does everybody always whine so much?

Actually (just to nitpick :D ) I did Air it out for about a month before I put it in storage. The point is: this stuff can be hazardous to your health.

And that's why we whine. You don't think there's a risk. We do. I would love to be wrong.

Holding a mobile phone to your head is a health risk, eating my wife's cooking is a health risk, my case is fine after 6 days its a $40 case a high quality leather case is $200 plus you do get what you pay for. Smell a wallet at Walmart then go to a fine leather store I bet not only the smell is different but the price as well. You need to decide what you want a low priced item or a quality item. Its a great case the smart feature sucks but I burn calories but putting all that energy into pushing a small button to turn it on and off. No biggie the may even be a app for that

I put my cases on the clothes rack and left them at the balcony for 3 days and there isn't any smell now even if i put my nose up against it.

Good tip! I was planning on putting mine outside on my front porch on the bench that has wide slots to air it out...I think airing it out indoors is pointless.

Not whining. Just stating that my case is going back because of the smell/residue issue.

Oh, and BTW, the minute I opened my package the smell nearly knocked me over, which means that the seller(s) must be aware of this smell issue when they receive and open their inbound shipments from suppliers. Imagine this smell x 24 (or whatever quantities they receive wholesale shipments in). It is unbelievable that the seller(s) then proceed with sales of such a product.

I gotta say that I think the smell thing is overblown too. I didn't apply any cleaner to it. I origianlly attempted to enclose the case in a bag with an open box of baking soda but that didn't really help so I just put it outside and let it air out for a day and the smell was significantly reduced.

Then again, some people are more sensititve to different smells so what might not bother me is a lot worse for others.

Now, with that being said....the case is just ok. It's better then what's available now but I really think the marware CEO case will end up blowing it out of the water when it's released. The main thing I dislike about the case is that the front cover wraps around the face of the ipad....I kinda wish it didn't cover any of it. Of course, I knew that when I bought it but seeing it makes me think that it could end up being a dust trap. Plus, it hides the devices beauty. I would buy from them again though but I have the Marware CEO case preordered and I'll likely keep that one and sell this one on ebay.

And yes, I am definitely getting the sleep/wake issue also. Not a huge dealbreaker for me but it does happen

Has anyone tried to insert couple of dryer sheets for a day or two and see if it helps to "draw out" the smell? I am still on a fence about buying this case.

My case has been airing out since last Tuesday 3/29. The smell is still there, has not subsided at all. I have contacted AYL - seller on Amazon for return instructions. I can't do it. That is major turn off - I have a sensitive nose and it gives me a headache.

This is my personal opinion.

Good luck to those who have successfully gotten over the smell or it has gone away. I wish that was the case with me.

Could it have to do with the color? I have red.

I have black. On 2nd thought though, my case does still stink. I thought the smell had disipated but it's still there and strong. The deal breaker though isn't so much the smell now....it's the fact that it stays on your hands when you're holding the case. Looks like I'm gonna return the case for a refund also. I'll just wait on Marware to release their case.

If this was a $20 case then I would have kept it but I might as well get my $40 back.

1) I don't hold a phone to my head. I use a headset (wired)
2) I wouldn't eat your wifes cooking if it's unhealthy (Wives will kill you :D )
3) Walmart? please LOL

I'm actually sorry about this debacle. I have three cases and I just got a Chinao, that DID have a bad odor but went away after a couple days.

Folks, make sure you air out these for 5 days before you return it.
note:
The Chinao case I just bought had a terrible odor. I put mine under the kitchen sink (in the cupboard) for 5 days. When I took it out it was much better but still had a slight odor. This is acceptable to me, as I knew then that it would probably be gone soon, and that's what happened.

Really it's only the extremely persistent odors that scare mew to death.

Your move

I agree. I'm waiting to hear back form AYL re: refund process.
