Umm, what are you going on about? Someone said amazon price was lowered, and I was just pointing out that it wasn't cheaper because there is now a shipping cost. Anyways...

Just was doing my US economics paper sorry free shipping is a illusion

Finally got my case today. I hate USPS, they totally suck.

Anyways, the smell is pretty bad, but not too major. I haven't even had it for a full day and have noticed it has gone down. The leather is very soft and I like the black with white stitching. Every now and then I will notice that the mic hole and camera hole have gotten off so I will have to push the iPad back in a little further.

The sleep/wake function is nice. When I first got it, I tried to make a crease where it would flip back in a way so that the magnets would be as far away from the edge of the case as possible, if that made sense haha. Well so far it has worked very well and I have not had any major problems with it. As I start working in the crease even more I suspect I will not have to even think about it.

I did notice that if the case is closed and push the top cover up just a tiny bit, like a centimeter, then it will wake the iPad up. Once the top cover goes back on straighter it will go back to sleep. It's not that big of a deal, just a little annoying and can waste some battery.

Overall I love the simplicity of the case and the sleep/wake feature. Sure, it may not be the perfect case, but it can't get much better for the price. Plus, all of the problems, if you even want to call them that, are able to be easily worked around, mainly starting a crease further away as soon as possible to keep it from going to sleep when tucked around back.

I'll try and post some pictures maybe tomorrow of the black case and black iPad combo.

If someone with a black iPad and bought the brown case, please post some good quality pictures. Really like the brown color but am not sure how the combination will look. Else I'll take the conservative approach and buy the black case.

Just had a "home remedy" kind of a thought (mine isn't here yet) but if mine had similar strong smell, I was planning on putting it in a box (w/o packaging of course) with an open box of baking soda. That finally got rid of the stench in my kid's backpack from rotten cheese :YUK

My case has been breathing for past 4 days - the smell is still there. My Ipad 2 just arrived today. I need a quick solution to smell situation.

Hmm...that's a nice idea there. I'm gonna try that.

Anyone know any other ideas for how to get rid of the smell? I just got mine today. It's noticable but it's not as bad as people seemed to be making it out.

I tried again with a better camera and daylight lighting. Hope this helps. I think it looks good and continue to get complements on the case as more coworkers see it.

New yoobao case owner here. Do you think it would be possible to lower the magnetism of the internal magnet a bit by putting the case in the oven? Magnets tend to lose magnetism when heated, but unsure of what extent it would have to be heated in order to yield results. Would heat damage leather of this type as well? Just trying to gauge some expert opinions before doing it myself :)

I'm a fan of simple/tidy cases, so Apple's case worked fine for me on our original iPad. Yoobao's case replicates that simplicity, so I ordered a black one on Wednesday. Paid the extra 5 or so bucks for the USPS shipping upgrade and it was in our mailbox by Friday. Great service, communication, etc.

Observations...

Smell: Dunno what all the fuss is about. Yea, it smelled out of the box, but here it sits on day two and it's no big deal.

Design: The fit is absolutely perfect. Getting the sync cable unplugged (without pulling on the cord) takes a bit of effort due to the stitched edge of the case, but I'll get used to the motion. The sleep/wake function sure enough activates with the flap folded towards the back. And on mine at least, it activates quite easily. Of course I never had sleep/wake with the Apple case on our original iPad, so living without it on the 2 isn't a big deal, but I can't deny that it'd be nice to have this feature working correctly.

Verdict: If the sleep/wake issue gets rectified on a future version, I'll see what, if any, exchange options are available. In the meantime, I'm gonna run with sleep/wake mostly turned off and enjoy this tidy case.

My case has been 'airing' since Thursday. Multiple air freshener sprays later, I still get a headache if I try to put my iPad in it. Smell keeps coming back. I've even conditioned the front w/leather cleaner. Not looking good, think I just wasted $40.

That's because your sealing in the smell with all that spray and conditioner, if you just would let it naturally air out it would be fine,

Really?? Ok, I'll let it sit outside for a few days and see what happens...

I would strongly caution against putting any Yoobao case in an oven. I was assured that my case, purchased on ebay from someone who claimed to be Yoobao's direct marketer, was genuine leather, when in fact it was plain old smelly poly vinyl. It looked and felt like leather but it was not. If you buy a Yoobao, you may get a real leather case; you may not. A vinyl one will melt in the oven. And even a leather one could have problems, as the glues they use in assembly are likely to soften or dissolve and are quite possibly flammable.

I believe these to be genuine leather.

Thanks for the great picture. This is much bigger and clearer. :)

I'm confused you say you bought a case that was a Yoobao and was suppose to be genuine leather buts its not? Then you say you believe it to be genuine leather?

I believe it to be leather. The person I was quoting and replying to does not.

I'm not sure how far in the magnet is inside of the iPad 2. If you try to demagnetize the magnets, it seems to me like there is a good chance that when the case is closed properly, the sleep/wake feature will no longer work.

When closed, the flap of the case sits against the leather around the bezel which is right on top of the iPad. So the magnet goes through flap, casing, then iPad. However, when the flap is around on the back, it is up against the back casing and then the iPad. So the magnet goes through the flap, casing, then iPad. To me this seems like roughly the same distance. So if you are to demagnetize the magnets even the slightest, it could very well ruin the whole function. If by some chance it works, the magnets will be much weaker and will turn the iPad on if the flap slides even a centimeter up or down when closed. This will end up triggering the sleep/wake function constantly using up much more battery life.

Oh my bad I should have read better the outer layer is leather but the backing is prohibit not. But at this price I would hope people do not expect top grade cowhide its impossible to produce a case in quality full grain leather at the price most people in here are willing to pay. After all people complained about the case being $40 but com pair it to a $250 vaja too funny

You can use the hair dryer.

Good luck ;)

Just received the red cover. The stench is repulsive! It smells like paint! I have a feeling whatever colour the cover has was being spray-painted on. That would explain the dreadful painty smell. I doubt the material is leather too. Other than the smell, the cover is a delight to have. Slim, sleek and functional. I'm gonna air it for a few days to see if the smell will dissipate.

Where did you order your red case from? I ordered mine directly from the seller "who can't be named" ...wondering if the source makes a difference. Mine should be here on Tues/Wed as I paid for Priority Mail. Also, if it smells like paint, I can deal. I ordered some hockey jerseys for my family and one of them smelled like mold. Now that, I could NOT tolerate. Luckily, soaking it in vinegar got rid of it. Wonder if I can do the same thing?:D

I ordered from an eBay Hong Kong seller, yxyshop. The smell is really strong. I think the Chinese rather than using dye to color the leather, resorts to using spray paint, else why would it reeks of paint smell??
