So, I have been following this thread for the past two weeks. When I saw that Yoobao had added the flap, I ordered one off an eBay seller, based on a picture he he had on the auction, showing the flap clearly. I wish now I had ordered from dplxy because yesterday, when I went to check on the package progress, I clicked on the link of the original order, and the picture showing the flap had been substituted with one showing the cheapy straps instead! I emailed the seller immediately, but have not heard back from him. Thankfully, I had taken a Screenshot of the original page, just in case, and it clearly shows the Watermark he has over all his pictures, as does my screen capture showing the flap. I will not mention his name here until I know for sure that he made a "switch" but I am very concerned! It's been 10 days now, so it should arrive soon.

If I do not receive the case I ordered, any advice would be much appreciated!
Let me guess, ebesthoo168, right? I have a open case currently against them. They are selling a case with straps that appears nowhere on the manufacturers website. Yoobao only shows the original and the newest flap version. I believe somebody is sewing straps on the old ones and calling them the newest version 3. Only in China.............

Yup, same guy. I sold his crappy case locally and broke even or I'd file a complaint as well.

I've just heard back from eBay, I HAVE WON! They agreed with me that it was misrepresented. Money back plus shipping.

im working with yoobao now and try to convince them to use black stitching
white stitching stands out too much :apple:

I too would be interested in a black stitched version.

I just got my white one today and it's not as bad as I thought it would be , but I would sell this and get a black for sure.

It is a nice case though , love the flap and anti-stink version :D

glad u like it ;)
i will keep you updated

Now that I've been using the case for a couple of days, my impression are this:

I love that it's similar in functionality to the Apple case, and boy, it stays a whole lot cleaner.

I love that the typing position is actually a little higher than the Apple case.

However, the cased itself it bulkier that the Apple case.

The way it folds into itself for a typing position it not quite as "secure" as the Apple case... Because the material is thicker, it has a tendency to slip out of the little notch it goes into.

I hate the frame around the iPad itself. This is one thing I love about the Apple case... It doesn't intrude on screen space at all. Now, the Yoobao case doesn't actually cover any of the screen, but it DOES intrude on touch functionality... I find it a little harder to hit the top of the browser bar to go back to top... And more annoying, I find it impedes my thumb hitting the space bar when doing a lot of typing. It doesn't fit perfectly and sticks up just enough to get in the way around the iPad screen.

It's too think to let me clip my pogo stylus to. With the Apple case I could keep it clipped on when not using it.

I also just cant stand the smell - though I'll admit, that I think with time that would subside.

I went back to my dirty Apple case for now. I'm disappointed -- I really wanted to like the Yoobao case.

I really hope Apple is listening on this issue. Their case would be perfect if they just made the outside of it a smoother, less scuff-prone dirt-magnet material!

Dpxly, if you have any pull with the manufacturer try to get the edge of the frame narrowed. I'd buy a second one to get that improvement.

well-written review, and i agree with your points, esp the ones i highlighted.

to comment about the frame around the iPad, it's not too bad. i am choosing between it and the marware eco-vue, and i feel like the eco-vue's frame is more of a nuisance.

but just wanted to re-iterate that this case is well-priced, functional, and we've found a great seller. however, it's still not quite the holy grail folio case that we're all looking for (thin, clean, prop-up ability). i think it's arguably the closest though.

The Apple case is the closest. It's only really problem is the material and how it gets scuffed and dirty. If Yoobao wants to improve their case they need to make it less bulky all around, and have the iPad insert into it like either the Bookstand or the Apple case, with VERY little covering around the screen. I'd buy another one in a second if they did that, even if it still smelled bad! LOL

this is a great review
i just translated it to Chinese and send it to yoobao :D

Greg

i talked to them about the edge many weeks ago
and here are the things they i learned so far

1: they did a prototype with a thin leather and very thin edge

the edge sits almost flush with the screen, just like the apple case

because the leather is so thin,

they cant shape the case the way we wanted it. i mean they can,

when the ipad is not in it, as soon as we put the ipad in it,

the case looks like s***.

another big reason the edge is thick is because they put tiny magnet in the edge

2: i then ask them if they can use PU for the edge,

they said if they use PU for the edge and leather for other parts

the color is hard to match, even if they do

when you 1st use it you cant tell the different, but after a month or so,

you gonna see a big color different.

3: i asked them again saying that cant they find any strong thin leather?

the said they did find something,

but the price of the case is not going to be 40 bucks.

and they know people in the states side doesnt know yoobao,

and they cant charge people 80 bucks for a case,

because no one is going to buy it.

4: they are working hard to make the perfect case, price/quality/design

Thanks...

is all gone now :D

Biggest minus for me with the Yoobao case vs the Apple is that the corners are uncovered. The way the front flap moves around somewhat when closed, I have no faith that even in a slight drop, the corner of the Ipad isn't going to take a direct unprotected hit.

Messaged one of those ebay sellers. I should get the v3?:
the V3.0 version add "two elastic cloth tape structure" to stop sliding out, please see the link:

from user ebesthoo168

Any good?

V2: the V2.0 version add "the cloth block wrapped structure"to stop sliding out, please see link:

Would prolly cost me about 50 USD in total. Good, or should I get something else?

Don't buy from ebesthoo, get one from dplxy. You don't want the elastic strap one....mine was crap.

Good old ebesthoo. Tough to get a straight answer.

Personally I would spend $80 on a nice quality leather case with the form and function of this one. Preferably with some color options , like a nice brown :D

As far as Yoobao being concerned about the market here in the US , I think they don't have a firm grip on what type of people own an iPad. It's not a necessity it's a luxury. Spending $80 for a beautiful case for my luxury item wouldn't be any big deal. I spent $829 on my iPad , another $80-$100 for a top quality functional case is no big deal to me.

All that being said , what really has impressed me is the response from Yoobao to address the issues. I wish all companies reacted to consumer complaints with the expedience of Yoobao. They have made a fan out of me.

Tell them if they can make this case in a quality leather with a couple of color options and a couple more tweaks they would have no problem selling at a premium. At least not in the price range they are talking about.

Received my case today! Regardless of my thoughts on the case, dplxy is a great seller, my case came in 2 days!

Just wanted to check something, the Version 2 case does not have magnets correct? Because I'm almost 100% mine does not, or they are extremely tiny and do nothing.

Other than that, everything looks good. The flap on back looks like it may pose a problem after extended use. As someone else noted, this is thicker than the Apple case, so it seems it may cause the back flap to stay up slightly with more use.

I'd also like to add, the white stitching is not nearly as bad as i feared it might be. I'd probably prefer dark, but it really isn't something worth not purchasing over.

I actually like thicker cases. They're nicer to hold and provide a bit more comfort when it comes to security

Can someone please post a link to dpxly's Yoobao case sales page?

Edit: Nm, found it and ordered mine!

Thanks for the response. I don't care (much) about the thickness of the leather but the width is important. I see their point about the magnets.

Actually, my seller was ebesthoo168, but guess what? I received it yesterday, and he DID send me the latest version with the flap. It is the exact model I ordered. The picture I saw with the cheapy straps might be a different auction he has of the older model. I would hate to see him bad-mouthed when he did indeed send me the correct item.

Thanks...

I had both the Apple case and in the Incase Convertible Book Jacket, and out of the three, I still far prefer the Yoobao. The Apple case - I just hate the material, although the structural/functional design is excellent. The Incase product, with the various viewing angles is far more bulky than the Yoobao, and the "leather" is not real, has started to stretch out of shape* around the docking port and screen, after only a few weeks of use, and the grooves for the different viewing angles are not deep enough, nor do they provide sufficient traction for the iPad to remain stable, resulting in constant slipping.

The Yoobao case to me is not bulky, just really "solid" feeling, providing the protection I think the iPad requires. If the frame around the screen were to be manufactured out of a thinner piece of leather (as opposed to the outer, covering shield), I think it would eventually stretch out, not just from the weight of the iPad itself, but also from the push-pull of the heavier leather it is sewn to. It's kind of like Newton's Law - for every action, there is an equal and opposite re-action. The lighter material could not withstand the stress the heavier ones have on it and eventually, it would have to "give", (case in point above, with the Incase* design flaw.)
