Is it possible to open the Yoobao Magic and lay it flat (so that the cover is flatly folded underneath)?

Thanks!

No, which is the main thing I don't like about it. It would be close to the perfect case if the top cover would fold flat underneath it. I use my iPad a lot for reading (iBooks, etc.), and the Magic case is uncomfortable to hold for long on the left side because it won't lay flat underneath.

Then the case is fatally flawed. If you cannot wrap the front cover behind the iPad then its going to be a nightmare to use when holding it. Maybe Flatline should update his review to show this?

Thanks mrgossett. What happens when you try to fold it under the back. From the pictures and video, its not clear how much of an angle would exist between front and back if the front cover isn't folded? 90 degrees and it just stops?

I asked him this question in the comments section of his video thread. Odd that he's answered other questions posed later than mine. Hmmmmm.....

And I just pulled the trigger and bought one. Doh!

No, it goes further than that, but not flat.

The one flaw in the design.

The top cover will fold all the way underneath, but the left side will not lay flat against the bottom of the case, due to the hinge/crease design. There is an angle in the cover when folded underneath. Kind of hard to explain without a picture, but it certainly doesn't lay flat. I have bought and received the Cyber Acoustics case, which does lay flat when folded under.

I got my Magic case today. It lays flat enough on a bed or to hold. It just won't lay flat with the cover back on a desk or table.

I like the case alot but I kind of wish it didn't have the latch. It seems like it will be very durable overall but I can see the lining peeling back where it latches over time.

Does anyone who has the Magic case and the Cyber Acoustics one like that one better? I didn't get it because it looked a bit puffy in pictures and everyone seems to love their Magic case.

I got my magic case. Awesome case especially for the price tag.

Thanks to everyone on this thread for convincing me to buy one!

I'd update my review, but I really dont consider this a fatal flaw in my opinion. The front cover bends back behind my iPad well enough to have not even caught my attention until I read the latest post here. Maybe I use mine in the typing position enough to where mine has no issues bending back more? I dunno. Nothings perfect, but this is 99% close.

Jeff - I didn't skip your comment for any various reason, I simply didn't respond right away. No use in reading into it further, simple as that. *Shrugs*

Flatline - didn't mean to imply anything. Sorry if it seemed that way. My "hmmmm" was more like your "shrug". We're all friends here. Thanks again for a great video review. My wife was impressed by the duration and detail. The picture helps out quite a bit. Does it get even flatter when you're gripping from the sides?

No harm no foul :) Glad you guys enjoyed the video! And thanks!

Actually yes, it does close a bit more when holding it in "reading" position..maybe 95% flat compared to that 90% (roughly) shown in that quick pic I took. Just my guess, but I think overtime and a little flexing, it might fold completely flat...

I bought an Apple case a week ago (which I mostly like) and am considering returning it and buying the Yoobao Magic. A few questions about the Yoobao:

1. Is typing position comfortable on the lap, considering the hook that is pointing down? Is it stable (the case holds it's typing position well on a lap)?

2. Is the iPad easy to get in and out, and do you think frequent removal is okay with this case?

3. Is it feasible to prop the iPad up in one of the viewing positions, put it on your lap, then set the Apple Bluetooth Keyboard on the flap and type that way? This would emulate laptop positioning and I think might be very useful.

4. Just how much more does it weigh compared to the Apple case?

Again, I mostly like my Apple case, particularly the typing position for use on my lap. But I don't like the unstable viewing position. It rocks back and forth when you tap on the screen, and wants to flip over. Doesn't work well on an airplane particularly if the plane or the tray is not perfectly level. I do wonder if it will get much more stable after break-in (any comments on this?), but obviously the Magic case will do a far better job overall.

I just received my Magic Case in the mail, popped my iPad in, and it works. This the first case I've owned for the iPad. Landscape viewing angles seem to work fine, they are rigid and you can navigate on the screen without much movement. The typing position is what it is, nothing negative to say about it. The case is very slim and doesn't increase the bulk much at all. The iPad's metal sides are flush with the case, so I don't intend for this to provide a ton of protection, but I will be able to carry it as a "padfolio/planner" without worrying about scratching it up.

Immediately I am not a fan of the clasp that holds the case shut. I could deal with a flap or some other way of closing. Don't get me wrong, the clasp works fine, I just don't like the amount of pressure you have to place on the iPad to get it to lock up.

There is a distinct smell from the materials, if you've ever smelled cheap leather shoes from China, you'll know what I'm talking about. It's a chemical smell, but I'm sure it will fade away in a few days/weeks.

Overall this case is great for the money. I would say this is a budget Vaja case, without all the status and dollars that go along with it. Originally I was looking for a case that would serve as a padfolio, but seeing all the viewing angles available on this case made me want to try it. I still may pick up another more protective padfolio style, which will probably lose position functionality to use at work and in more professional settings.

Like the magic case but wish it were leather.

I received my magic case today. Super quick shipping from Kevin at e-bay. Not sure if I'm really am crazy about it yet. I'll check it out for a day or so to see if I'll keep it.

Pros: the design is pretty cool and it appears like it will hold up well. I do like the no bezel look.

Cons: I wish it were real leather. The first thing I noticed was the awful chemical smell of the leather like vinyl. Will be okay if it is durable. The first yoobao case I ordered was real leather but within 3 days of use it puffed up and warped in the middle of both front and back covers. Not sure if it was a defect in just my case or the design of the back flap pulling on the cover caused both inner cardboard flaps to warp and puff out. This magic case seems way sturdier. I'm not that crazy about the clasp. Works well but causes the fabric to pull away. Hope it will hold up. Can anyone else comment on the clasp holding up? The typing position is weird - the back slips as there is nothing to keep it from sliding.

These forums are really great to get some real life reviews on products.

Does the awful chemical smell of the magic case go away?

For those of you that have the magic case, does the awful chemical smell ever diminish? It was terribly strong when I first took it out of the bag. After a day I can still smell it when walking into the room. Also the smell even lingers on my hands after use. Even with a bad head cold the smell is overbearing. I'm not usually squeamish about strong smells but this is ridiculous.

Mine did not have much of a smell. The smell that it did have was gone in a day.

Answers to your questions:-

1) IMHO - No problem

2) It is not difficult to get in and out but I do not think frequent removal would be a good idea.

3 and 4) No Keyboard or Apple case to compare

The varied viewing positions and how stable they are, for me are the major selling points of this case.

Hope this helps.

Bought mine from "dplxy" (who was very active, but seems to be idle in the last month or so) a couple months back when they first became available. It 's never had a bad smell - or really any smell. Makes me wonder if certain sellers might have batches of "seconds" that Yoobao subsequently sold off cheap.

Just received my Yoobao Slim case yesterday. First thing I did was take some black shoe polish and dyed the stiching, now the entire this is black, and smells like shoe polish to boot!

I really like the case thus far. I'm coming from the Apple case, which was great for it's thinness and ability to get into typing position quickly. The Yoobao is a little thinker, but still manageable, and it does take a little longer to get into the typing position.

So far so good. Glad I changed from the Apple case because this one stays clean!

For those interested in the magic case but don't like the smell. I bought a case from amazon that has the same functionality and looks the same as the magic case. It it made from a carbon fiber leather and looks real nice. It's the same price as the magic case but u get free shipping
Here's the link

Thanks for the link. This looks just like the Yoobao, but with a nicer texture on the outside. Scosche is also coming out with one identical to this one, except the Scosche one is 10 bucks more expensive.
