Bought mine from "dplxy" (who was very active, but seems to be idle in the last month or so) a couple months back when they first became available. It 's never had a bad smell - or really any smell. Makes me wonder if certain sellers might have batches of "seconds" that Yoobao subsequently sold off cheap.

I have two of them...one is out of the package and in use for the last month or so. No discernible smell at all. Not even when I first opened it.

Thanks for the link. This looks just like the Yoobao, but with a nicer texture on the outside. Scosche is also coming out with one identical to this one, except the Scosche one is 10 bucks more expensive.

It looks exactly the same and the material is really nice. Ive gone through 5 different cases and ive decided on this one

For those interested in the magic case but don't like the smell. I bought a case from amazon that has the same functionality and looks the same as the magic case. It it made from a carbon fiber leather and looks real nice. It's the same price as the magic case but u get free shipping
Here's the link

Thanks for the link.

THIS is a better link to it with a better picture....wonder if that ugly SHIELD thing stuck on the front comes off cleanly??

*edit* fark i wanted to buy one of these in white (CLICK HERE IF YOU'RE INTERESTED) but Amazon in all their wisdom don't ship to Australia.

Could anyone who's going to buy one of these anyway order me one too and chuck it in the post for me if I paypal them the money first? It's free shipping to your door anyway and I'll chuck in an extra couple of bucks for your effort if you want....

Don't understand why Amazon never send stuff to Australia....it's not like buyers here don't exist or something....if anyone's willing to give an aussie lad a hand, send me a PM. TA!

I just ordered the Yoobao Magic and am returning the Apple case tomorrow (still within my 14 day return window).

In making this decision, I did struggle a bit with the issue of the tight latch, and also was wondering about the stability of the typing position. But it sounds like it's actually very stable, so I'm going to go for it. I'm looking forward to getting it and will post some pics.

I'll also see if it's usable in a "laptop configuration", where I put it in it's most upright notch, set it on my lap, then set the Apple Wireless Keyboard on top of the protruding flap. I've been looking for a convenient way to use the iPad with the wireless keyboard on my lap, and maybe this is it. If my legs are long enough for all that, that is.

It may work in "laptop" mode, but keep in mind the iPad doesn't lock into positions. The groves in the flap are not deep enough to hold it tight. When you move it around, you have to grip the iPad and a few parts of the case to keep it all together, or just reset it after you move it.

My Yoobao Magic case already arrived. That was fast! I ordered it yesterday morning and didn't even specify rush shipping. Though of course I only live 2 hrs away from the shipper (same guy you all recommended, out of Hayward CA).

So far it meets all the expectations I had based on the reviews here and on YouTube. I will say though, you guys weren't kidding about that chemical smell. It's strong and unpleasant. My wife isn't going to want it in the house (she's very sensitive to smells). It's stinking up my office, I kid you not. It's not a "new car" smell or anything like that. It's more like jet fuel or something. What the heck are they making these out of anyway? Maybe it's the glues they use.

I do fully expect the smell will dissipate, so I'm not going to worry about it.

Beyond that, my observations are that it fits nice and tight, feels quite solid, and the iPad is very stable in every stand position. The case feels high quality, though the fake leather is clearly fake and doesn't feel expensive or anything like that. But overall, this case feels good quality. I'm pretty sure I will be happy with it.

Also, the case does work on my lap in the highest or second highest position with the Apple Wireless Keyboard sitting in front of it on the flap. This is a usable position as long as I'm careful not to shift around too much. I expect I'll be doing a lot of writing that way. I'll post pics later.

Guys,

Can anyone tell me where I can find the magic case in UK, I wanted to get the magic case as early as possible.

I know I buy in ebay from US or Canada, but it takes a long long time with delays at customs.

Hope someone can provide a link in UK ?

There are no UK based eBay sellers currently selling the magic or the slim. I just bought a V2 yesterday (arrived today) as all things considered it seems a more sturdy design. I like the way I can set it in typing mode then pick it up and carry it around-not convinced by the design of the magic case having watched the YouTube videos...

The Magic Case rocks. I bought two of them from the seller whose name we dare not speak.

The interesting thing is that this seller has been signing on under different names...keeps getting caught... but despite the fact that I had been a good customer of his, he attacked me on this forum under his most recent user name because I stated a preference for the Yoobao Magic over the Chinao.

I guess he wants to get rid of the Chinao, and didn't like the fact that I was stating my preference for the Yoobao.

Very strange.

Yes, that's how I interpreted it. On the one hand I sympathise with eBay sellers who commit to buying these cases in bulk and then have to sell them. On the other hand, surely the best option is to be open and honest about the cases they are selling, rather than posting anonymous comments slating a particular case because they happen to have a stack of a different case and need to sell them.

As to the magic case I can definitely see the appeal of the different viewing angles. However, I mainly use my iPad for typing or I'm holding it in my hand (I don't watch much video on my iPad), so for me the yoobao v2 design (ie the apple design) where the flap sort of locks in place makes sense.

Thanks for the response, Tallyho. I totally agree. I understand the plight of the ebay seller who has invested in a large stock of an item only to be subject to the whims of the consumer.

I was really surprised by his response though as I was a good customer, and in fact, talked him up on here repeatedly.

I DID draw the line, however, when he started sending me multiple emails instructing me to pass along information on his behalf. I absolutely refused to do so.

I was a good customer of his...but I won't purchase from him again.

For those with an odor problem with the Magic case - it most definitely must be an issue with that batch, as the one I purchased back a couple of months or so ago from the first seller to mention it here had no discernible odor at all from day one.

The case has held up very well - nothing coming apart. Every few weeks I hit it with a dab of 303 Aerospace Protectant and it looks good as new.

Around the house, I use a Speck Pixelskin, but when I'm traveling, the Magic is my go-to case.

For me, the odor dissipated rapidly after opening the package. It's really not an issue now, two days later. But during the first couple hours after opening the package, it was surprisingly overwhelming, to the point where I got a headache from it.

Ditto, the smell went away quick after taking them out of the package. For some cases in the past that had an odd smell...I'd toss a dryer sheet in the case over night, give it a nice fresh smell, lol.

Just for clarification, the Scoches are Leather TEXTURE and Carbon Fiber TEXTURE - not the real thing.

Yeah...noticed that...so I wonder what the "Carbon Fiber Texture" is made out of, and how it will hold up...as well as how does it look "in person."

I love the Yoobao Magic but am not so crazy about the texture.

True, like half of the supposedly 'leather' accessories out in the market. It's funny how some video reviews claim "it feels and smells like real leather"...

I ordered and have just received this case from HandheldItems:

http://www.handhelditems.com/luxury...case-ipad-free-screen-protector-p-140778.html

It's just like the Yoobao Magic case (which I also have), but it has a very nice carbon fiber texture that looks really sharp and seems to have more grip than the grained texture on the Yoobao. And the two main things for me- 1) The latch is not overly tight, as it was on the Magic case. It was pretty tight when I first got it, but it's loosened up enough now that it's fine. The latch or clasp on my Magic case is so tight that I was afraid I would damage the iPad. And 2) The top cover folds flatter under the bottom than the Magic case. It's still not totally flat, but it makes a difference for me when holding it for reading, etc. I think I have finally found a case that I will keep on the iPad and enjoy, without paying big bucks for a Vaja, etc.

I'm looking at getting the Yoobao Slim for my iPad that will be here this week.
The little flap that secures it underneath looks like it may create a sort of bump while sitting flat on the table in typing position. Does this make it uneven for anyone?
I don't want a wobbly case in typing mode since that will be the mode I have it in 90% of the time.

Edit:
Well I ended up buying the Yoobao slim in the tan color, should get it by Thursday or Friday.
