The “future of computing” was only able to sustain buzz for less than a week. I think that speaks for itself.

It's early yet Surf ... give it a good few decades and we should be there.... hyper light fully integrated AR Ray-Bans and all.

Maybe by then Apple will have bent the knee and stopped dragging their Devs so their are some actual Apps for their new platform too.

Listen. It’s only a matter of time before Apple releases the Transporter and the Holodeck. All the naysayers just don’t have any imagination. Personally, I think they’re just jealous. Or they don’t understand. Those are the only two possibilities.

You know the Holodeck will still only have 8/256 for base specs too

"Plenty for most users!"

There’d be no discussion here at all if we didn’t disagree with one another from time to time.

Here in ST:TNG Season 7's episode "Homeward" we see what happened when Geordi skimped on RAM for the Holodeck!

The 256GB SSD wasn't able to keep up swapping and Holodeck lines were showing through, to the shock of the Boraalens, who were unaware of all this technology!

Sure, but give it too much RAM and Moriarty will be walking around causing trouble.

Fact they need to open this to the web says enough about the lackluster sales. Remember the "leak" executives were lackluster about it and all of a sudden turned around and said it was the next big thing?
Not at all. For those who a researching/exploring options it is a valuable tool.
More information is a good thing.

No, this isn’t iPhone. That comparison isn’t valid. There is no world in which Apple sells as many of these as iPhones. There’s no world where your mom owns and regularly uses a Vision. None.

The suggestion that the average person wants to put one of these on for any extended period of time is fantastical ideation IMO. Even if it becomes significantly smaller it’s not the kind of thing that will catch on with the general public.
Right, right because you can totally predict the future. Gotta love people who speak in absolutes with conviction. lol.

Let’s see the sales numbers in 10 years. Apple plays in decades.

I didn’t get the impression @flexwithmarius was saying AVP has the popularity of the iPhone. I think the AVP App Store feels similar to the original iPhone App Store in terms of number of native apps. That’s what I thought @flexwithmarius was trying to say.
The popularity isn’t there…yet.

I get the feeling the other guy doesn’t want this to be anything like the iPhone or ever remotely popular.

I hesitate to speak for others, but I don't think anyone who is skeptical is rooting against AVP at all!

If it really becomes as mainstream as something like the iPhone, that would mean they've taken it to incredible places.

That would be totally awesome!

All for the low, low price of $4,000. I would love to know the sales, returns and inventory figures for AVP

It’s probably flying off the shelves like the G4 Cube, which also cracked without the owner misusing it.

The G4 Cube 'cracks' were a myth. They didn't happen. A few idiots saw the mold lines and thought they were cracks.

That shell is thick lexan. It's not going to crack unless you drop it or hit it with a hammer.

Exactly - people act like the app store on iphone was as fully fleshed out as today - nope! It started with just 500 apps, and iBeer and fart apps ruled the charts, so much so that apple had to write them out of the store via the app store guidelines.

What are you talking about? There are still lots of fart apps, and iBeer is still around.

I sure hope so! The goggle design isn't going to cut it for the long term

I'm not sure it isn't. I'm not really all that interested in 'sunglasses' type AR, I'd rather have VR that can block out everything from around me.

I think Apple's controllerless approach isn't great, I'd rather be able to touch physical buttons, and I'd like to be able to use it in the dark.

I also don't see the point of putting the computer in the headset when it's big goggles. It makes more sense to me for the goggles to be just a display. I'm not going to be walking around in public with any of it.

I know it's sounds cliche by now, but it really does need a "killer app" for mass adoption - and I don't think we've seen it yet. My in-store demo experience was neat and had a few 'wow' moments, but none of the apps left me feeling like I need an AVP at all. And absolutely not at this price point.
