Following the debut of the iPhone 16, iPhone 16 Plus, iPhone 16 Pro, and iPhone 16 Pro Max, Apple has started letting customers prepare for pre-orders, which are set to begin on Friday, September 13 at 5:00 a.m. Pacific Time or 8:00 a.m. Eastern Time.

If you plan to buy an iPhone 16, you can use the Apple Store app or Apple's website to choose a preferred phone, confirm your status with your carrier, add accessories, choose an AppleCare+ plan, and add a preferred payment method ahead of when pre-orders go live. Payment in full and other payment options are supported.

iPhone Upgrade Program members are able to choose their preferred iPhone 16 model and complete pre-approval steps that include checking upgrade eligibility, securing credit lines, and confirming shipping details.

Apple has offered a "Get Ready" feature for several years now, providing customers with a streamlined way to pre-order their iPhones with the tap of a button.

Pricing on the iPhone 16 starts at $799, while the iPhone 16 Plus is priced at $899. The iPhone 16 Pro is available starting at $999, and the iPhone 16 Pro Max is available starting at $1,199.

Following the September 13 pre-orders, the iPhone 16 models will launch on Friday, September 20.

It does seem odd that I can do everything for preorder except the final step of actually placing the order. Whether I submit it now or Friday I still wouldn't get it until at least the 20th. Though I guess it at least gives one the option of changing their mind before Friday.

Its furstrating that apple wont let me do iPhone upgrade without picking a carrier. I am on an MVNO and want it unlocked. But I have to wait until they start allowing for that unlocked version to be an option for the iPhone upgrade program or do you think I can go to the store and have them process me an upgrade without that option?

So pre-pre-order.

Pre-order nonsense is nonsense. Just let people order it now and be done with it. The marketing games are tiresome, to be honest. It's an iPhone, not the holy grail.

I personally like it. There's a lot of different systems to interact with ordering a phone and it's nice to get any carrier/loan/whatever information out of the way so on pre-order day you can just hit "buy" without having to worry about any of those intermediate systems crashing.

how the hell I preorder from Spectrum??!?!?!?!!?
You have to call spectrum probably. I was on spectrum wireless and that’s the reason why I changed to Verizon. They told me I had to come into the store and take whatever phone they had available.

I think it is just about making it "fair" for everyone. Everyone has the same chance of ordering their desired color/option on Friday at 5AM PST. It also allows Apple to have some hype building up to Friday and then generate more hype headlines on Friday.

While at the same time, it also eliminates what has historically been a bottleneck on pre-order day, which are the carrier and loan servers, which are out of Apple's control. Before this system was implemented, the carriers were completely ill-equipped to deal with the traffic

Are you talking about making payments or just buying the phone unlocked? It’s my understanding that if you want to make payments, you have to pick one of the major carriers. I bet Apple is receiving a significant sum of money for that deal. Before you were able to use Apple Card, but they blocked that as well.

Spot-on reasoning and assessment.

I just did it. It's very straightforward.

Why that gets some people frothed up is bizarre.
