What does it meeeeeaaannnn??

Mine is currently set to
"Double rainbow. Oh my god."

Always gets a laugh.

bahahaha, awesome. how'd you get that? thanks in advance

I don't know if it's still up, but the raaaaaaaandy site used to have a soundboard, and one of the sounds was the airhorn one. I got the flash file, extracted that sound file, then edited it a bit with audacity, and SSH'd it to my phone, replacing the "electronic" one. I can post the sound if anyone wants it.

EDIT: what the hell, here it is anyway http://dl.dropbox.com/u/6912935/airhorn.mp3

if you want to use it, open it in itunes and make sure your import settings are set to aiff (or whatever its called), then right click the file and select "create aiff version". find the file in explorer/finder, and rename it to sms-received6.caf (i think that's the file name, don't remember exactly). Either way SSH to your phone and replace the original file, located in /System/Library/Audio/UISounds. Make sure to back up the original! Respring/reboot and select the sounds through settings.

Yes, you can edit those files and swap out caf files. I find it much simpler to use WinterBoard to make the changes I want to make. A theme is simple to reapply...

Oh i didn't know you could theme sounds with winterboard too... Or I guess I did, it just didn't occur to me. I assume you just make a UISounds folder and put the appropriate file in there?

Yes. You can also change the names of the sounds.

For example:

Sample.theme/UISounds/sms-received1.caf

Sample.theme/Folders/Preferences.app/en.lproj/Sounds.strings

You could replace all 6 caf files [1-6] and give them all new names in the strings file.

i have just replace the native sms-received#.caf files for another that i create with the method described above...

the only thing i dont like it, is that we have to see the native "sounds name" in the list of yours message's ringtones... like: Tritone, electronic, etc...

is there anyway to change those names for the names of the sounds that i have replace??

My favorite that I am currently using is...

"Bababooey" from the Howard Stern show =)

Also have the "Hey now!" for my mail alert.

I'm trying to copy the Glass tone and get it to be my sound when I receive a message on TextFree. Anyone have any suggestions on how to do this? I can't find the SMS tones in iFile, where might they be located?

This file contains the names for the SMS tones:

/Applications/Preferences.app/English.lproj/Sounds.strings

This line in the file names the first sound after "None" which is "Tri-tone":

"DEFAULT" = "Tri-tone";

"ALTERNATE_" 1 through 5 name the next five sounds.

Here is where the sound files are located:

/System/Library/Audio/UISounds

The file "sms-received1.caf" matches up to name for "DEFAULT" IN THE "Sounds.strings" file. "ALTERNATE_" 1 through 5 match up to "sms-received" ".caf" files 2 through 6.

hi there! i was in that directory, (my iphone has PT-PT language) and i didn't understand what we have to do with that so we can change the names of the sms ringtones...
i upload my PT sounds.strings file, and i would like to ask if you could put in bold the words that are supossed to be changed... and then i replace those names in bold by my own names... and btw, can we let some spaces between the words??

thanks!!

Does anyone have a clip of Peter Griffin laughing? Been looking for this as a new SMS tone.

I got a couple of Stewie (they may be just a tad long for SMS, about 3 to 4 secs), but i haven;t be able to find a good enough quality mp3 of peter's laugh

I have a sound clip from the movie Logan's Run it's the computer saying "Logan Five, Approach and Identify". Long story on why I have it, well ok here it is;

I was listening to an Eat Static CD, and one of the songs uses the Identify in the mix, scratching and dropping it in during the jam. I recognized it, but just couldn't remember where I heard it before.

One day reading a post on Usenet, I saw someone's sig that had the whole line above "Logan Five, Approach and Identify". So a light went on in my head, and I scoured the iterwebs til I found it, and I was right. Eat Static used that Identify in their song.

I have the oldspice whistle

Oh God, this is brilliant. I need to set this one up for my husband. Nine Inch Nails when he calls, the Old Spice whistle when he texts. Frightning combo, but it fits him to a T! Off to download...

Wish BiteSMS would finsh the current beta and release it; their not-quite-fully-implemented-yet custom ringtones for contacts is great compared the stock app, but it doesn't yet work with the ones I've made on my own.
