Yeah I feel like an ass. Turned out to be an incremental update after all. Actually they lost TWO sales. Really blew this one. Blackmagic 6k pocket cinema's getting these bucks. My 12 promax is a FINE phone until they cough up 8k video and 2 terrabytes.

Another 12 Pro Max guy here. I have put TV shows on network TV here in Canada (Global and CTV) a feature length movie in 2018 and a TV series. I’m more into live performances and concerts now but figured the phone was good for some possible B roll footage. Anyway no 8K sucks! I’ve also moved on to Davinci Resolve and the hardware upgrades for this. I still have Avid and used it for decades. I need a cinema camera now so I’m looking…

Well I WAS gonna get the purple but I'm not liking the black or dark dark purple which ever color it is, around the camera lens. Should be the same color as the phone body. HHhhhhh

I think it’s dark purple. On my pacific blue 12 Pro, the blue around the camera lenses is a darker shade of blue compared to the rest of the body, so Apple is being consistent with the 14 Pro.

The Dynamic Pill Island is a very creative method for making what was an eyesore to most people into an interactive "feature" which draws you in instead of annoying you; it's honestly brilliant. The only complaint I have about it is, they could very easily adapt that paradigm to all of the phones sporting notches... but I'm not exactly optimistic that any such thing is forthcoming.

Yes, this irks me. It's upselling to the more expensive model. MBAs running amok.

I prefer the notch to watch videos. It doesn't float on screen. Looks weird.

Since the new pro phones have what is called the "Dynamic Island" I propose the notch henceforth be referred to as the "Static Peninsula."

Yup, 48mp sensor and no 8K? Not even a promise for later on? What, we have to wait for the iPhone 15 for 8K? The satellite connectivity is cool through!

It looks like Apple knew they couldn’t add 8K recording without also adding USB-C for faster transfers of those huge 8K files. So next year’s new Pro model goodies will be 8K recording, USB-C and maybe a periscope lens for at least the 15 Pro Max if not both Pro models.

Unpopular opinion but the purple iPhone has the color of artificial grape (medicine, candy, etc.) and as such looks cheap and ugly.

But again, personal opinion.

The dynamic island looks awful and is a downgrade from the notch, which I already hated. When they showed full screen video I cringed so much, it’s so distracting I would personally consider it unusable for consuming 21:9 video.

I consider an iPhone unusable for video. Want to watch a movie? Get an iPad.

Who the hell buys an iPhone made out of materials like this and then goes on to cover it with rubber or plastic? Gross.

I actually think that differentiating things by software rather than hardware will inevitably have to be the way forward, there's only so much hardware can do

The new pill seems alright, assuming it takes up the same space as the notch it shouldn't get too much in the way. Not sure how it will look when playing videos and images. My concern now is how much additional screen space it will take up and will it be distracting when watching Netflix or gaming.

Too bad was hoping to upgrade this time around but not enough innovation and improvements yet to warrant the price tag for me

I would consider it, I think. Not immediately though, give it a chance to get some real-world reactions, especially with the cameras.
