Millions will pay for the privilege of avoiding YouTube ads.

Genius when you think about it. Google makes money either way on “free” YouTube and “premium” YouTube.

The numbers are no doubt boosted by the inclusion of it for free in many phone plans if it is the same elsewhere as it is here in the UK. With my Vodafone plan I got it for 12 months, have not used it a huge amount but it is nice to have.

you can listen to Japanese content on Apple music outside of Japan.
Last time I accessed Apple Music and searched for some Japanese songs/music not available in Spotify I was also not able to find them there... Might be different now...

The songs are there but grayed out [Spotify] and can be added to a playlist but unless the account is set to Japan and connected to Japan via VPN they cannot be played...

I search for some songs [on Spotify] and no results found... But when I browse the artist's page, I am able to see the song if the other songs within the single/album are available to my country... But there are singles/albums that are only accessible if you are from Japan/or the Spotify account is set to Japan [I am not able to switch the country to Japan for I do not have a payment method associated with Japan and only free accounts can be switched to another country by using a VPN or going to the country itself]

I can only listen to the Japanese song/music if it is not region-locked/exclusive to Japan release... I can hardly remember how it looks on Apple Music but it is the same in terms of exclusive to Japan songs/music...

It is possible to have accounts in multiple countries and devices to reside virtually overseas. You may like hulu Japan 🇯🇵.
Thank you for the recommendation... May look into that some other time...

1. Keep playing while minimized.

2. A good portion of it goes directly to creators

3. Music app on phones, car play, android auto, chrome and Edge have applets to run stand alone in MacOS. (YTTV too)

4. YT content has a much larger appeal and variety than any service. (opinion)

5. More and more studio movies are being added for view.

6. No ads. Only way to get no ads on AppleTV as well.

The fact that most of Spotify's competition can create these bundles with their music streaming products is what I think will ultimately result in a permanent slow down in their growth. Personally, I know like 1 person under the age of 40 with YouTube music. I choose Apple Music because of the AppleOne Bundle. As a lot of people likely go with YT, AM, or Amazon Music. For the same or less amount you get far more than premium Spotify Sub.

I gave in late last year and did the 30 day free trial. FISHED IN. I now practically live in YouTube. It's the best $11.99 I spend a month. If I could have only one streaming service, it would be YouTube. Not even a contest. Nobody's more surprised than me, trust me.
Same, but I’m holding out hope for Premium Lite coming to the US. I have zero need for Youtube Music.

I'll never understand why people subscribe to services instead of buying products. I suppose it's a matter of accepting whatever the neighbour does, because if people used their minds instead of looking at the neighbour, this youtube service would have got below a dozen subscribers, and the transition from products to services wouldn't have happened. It's sad, because the right to own things might have its days numbered, considering how easy has been to fool people.
I pay for YouTube because I can't stand ads. And I want to listen to audio podcasts and interviews that happen to be on YouTube only.

I don't think google would sell YouTube to me.

Drop the YouTube music component and even if they only cut the price to $8.99 I’d be happier. But I cannot live without this. I watch 15-20 hours a week and mostly on smart tvs and iOS devices. Half at least is background play.

I am one of those who used to use the Vanced app to skip ads from videos [though it can't do anything with ads/sponsorships by the YouTube creators]...

But since I don't jailbreak my iPhone and I don't want to mess with the android TV so as to be able to skip ads, I then decided to subscribe to YouTube Premium initially to skip those ads and download the videos within the app...

I used to have Spotify Premium and Apple Music subscription but then I learned that if you do not have your account set to Japan, even if you can use a VPN to spoof your location as if you are in Japan, the music I listen to are mostly Japanese, you still have limited access to Japanese library...

I also do not have a payment method that can be used in Japan and the only time you can change the country is once you are on a free account or the subscription has expired... This is what I know about Spotify but not sure about Apple Music...

I recently found the same [limited Japanese library] with YouTube Music which is free as part of YouTube Premium subscription, but I decided to stick with YouTube and drop Spotify and Apple Music since I can still access Japanese content while using a VPN and some of the music/songs that are locked only to Japan are now being made available to YouTube Music...
I dropped Spotify and use Deezer. Been pretty happy with.

Get plex if you just want background play. Has many built in channels.

Youtube says, "...but mainly due to how subscribers can get uninterrupted access to..." What really happened is nothing short of corporate, streaming service extortion and bullying. YT ramped up the ads several times over what they had been to make watching videos a terrible adventure, then came out with a way to make the ads all go away. Unless one watches a huge amount of YT videos, it isn't worth paying their extortion fee.

well this is condescending even for the internet lol

Once you use youtube premium, you can’t live without it. Simple as that. This is by far the best subscription available.
really and if you can find more 'family' members that can split the cost, you can go to the family plan - a complete bargain

YouTube’s level of mid-rolls are unbearable. I’m tempted to get Premium just for that and background play as rediculous as this sounds.

Not on spotify, apple music

Proper operating systems have adblock like uBlock.

I don’t know what I’m doing wrong, but I have adblock that does work on YouTube - but I often hit a black screen on videos that just does nothing. If I refresh a buttload of times, sometimes it comes up… but more often than not I just launch a different browser that I don’t have an adblock extension on and just deal with it.

My understanding is Google has the LOWEST payout to creators even below the horrendous payout by Spotify and Apple https://www.unionofmusicians.org/un-report
When it comes to creator revenue from the subs, it’s all relative. However it’s always adjusting. The more engagement your channel has, the more the algorithm spots you, the more you get.

So, yes. It can be low but it can also be quite high. It’s always changing.
