Also there is no point of downloading video using premium if YouTube pulls the video the download is useless.

I also hate how YouTube keeps pulling videos and channels I like so I use Downie to download it so I won't lose it.

I do the same thing and use Downie too. I'll be on my iPad and I'll click "Watch later" and when I try to go back to the list, I'll see "video removed" or "video private" or something like that. I have no idea what the video was about or even what channel. My theory is that the videos are either copyright or has some too spicy for Youtube content.

Also many of the big YouTubers who review products get them for nothing by the company yet they still have ads and ask for more money.
Companies/manufacturers use the videos they upload as free marketing... This is what I found out for some of the tech reviewers I watched... So that could be why some YouTubers have the membership, Patreon, etc to earn money/additional money apart from what they get from YouTube...

I agree... There are times that those who upload the video set it to private so you will not be able to watch it offline...

I’ll tell you a story. From time immemorial (80’s) I purchased music. First on vinyl and audio tape, then segueing to CD in the 90’s. I have literally thousands of CDs and vinyl albums. I’ve spent tens of thousands on those albums.

But not everyone can afford that, and for a measly $10/month you can have almost the totality of recorded music at your fingertips.

I, myself, switched to Spotify because the sheer convenience (and not having to rip my entire collection, which would be daunting). And while there’s the odd outlier not available on Spotify from my collection, most “normal” music is available (I listen to a lot of noise/musique concrète/weird music).

Why would you spend tens of thousands on stuff when the cost of two starbuck coffees gets you it all?
I'm with you, but asiga doesn't get it.

No Google, You don't get to use my $9.99 a month I give you exclusively to not see ads on YouTube as a way to claim that I am a YouTube Music Subscriber. I'm Apple's customer, not yours. I only pay you because my time spent watching commercials is worth $10 a month. I won't use your music product ever so how about you make that 49,999,999 subscribers because I'm not one of them.

People actually pay for YouTube! 😄

I'll continue with my ad blocking thank you very much, works on the iPhone/iPad in the browser as well but then I obviously can't use the app but its a small price to pay.

It is only popular because they ramped up the amount of ads you have to watch, Apple stopped allowing attachments like uBlock Origin in Safari as well, I would rather support creators than not, but the adverts are excessive. I watch YouTube mostly on my phone so had no choice but to pay the money.
Adguard works.

I'll never understand why people subscribe to services instead of buying products. I suppose it's a matter of accepting whatever the neighbour does, because if people used their minds instead of looking at the neighbour, this youtube service would have got below a dozen subscribers, and the transition from products to services wouldn't have happened. It's sad, because the right to own things might have its days numbered, considering how easy has been to fool people.

I see subscribing to a music streaming service as paying for the convenience of accessing whatever music I want to listen to. Otherwise, concepts like suggested music mixes wouldn’t work if they were limited solely to music that you owned.

It also saves me the hassle of having to organise my music.

Prior to getting Apple Music, I wasn’t a music listening, and didn’t own any music (via rips or iTunes). Music streaming gave me a pretty low barrier to entry ($10 a month to play whatever I want to listen to).

I am paying for convenience, not ownership.

Wow I wasn’t aware this service was THAT popular.
I'm not surprised. My wife and I got it for free for 6 months. 😀

Google is seriously pushing free Premium in hope some would pay for it at the end, which of course I won't. Thinks about if they're doing this for India for example, they will easily have a number to boast.

There’s also a responsibility of owning stuff.

with subscriptions, if my house floods, falls apart, etc… I don’t have to worry about losing VHS tapes, DVDs, CDs, etc…. No need to worry about theft either

I used to have over 30TB of music, videos, photos, etc…. You know how expensive it is to run that much storage, maintain a backup of that storage, and still have to buy the content? Subscribing - even after 5 years, still ends up saving me 100s of dollars year over year.

For $60-70/mo I get my music, videos, and cloud storage of photos and documents. I can watch or listen as much as I want and don’t have to worry if I don’t like something because it only costed me maybe 1-2 minutes of my time.

If you are a single household youtube premium is overpriced sure includes youtube music, but i only need the ad free experiance.

I have no issues with buying digital products. However I don’t have the space to store physical DVDs and CDs. Technically I do but it requires a lot of effort. I have young children who would pull them all down if they were within reach. So the only way to store them would be in boxes in the loft and then they wouldn’t be that accessible. I understand that there is a loss of quality with digital products vs say blu rays or CDs but they are more convenient. They are easily accessible and save space.

Same, I put up with the ads for so long as they didn't bother me that much. Ended up giving it a go as I was watching so much YouTube and now I don't think I could ever go back.

Got a family plan and put my parents on it too, so even though they barely watch any, at least they won't get bombarded with ads when we share YouTube links.
Couldn’t put up with the ads. I’ve been a subscriber since it was available in the U.K. in 2018. After a few months I decided to cancel as I thought it was expensive. I lasted less than a day before re-subscribing. Couldn’t deal with the damn adverts after watching a few videos.

Pretty much agree with this. I hate their music streaming service with a passion. It’s absolute trash. I pay for the YouTube features that’s all. It’s the same with Amazon. I subscribe to prime. I don’t use the music streaming features. I don’t despise the service, I just don’t think it’s up to scratch and I use Apple Music for music streaming. However I’m sure they use my prime membership as a way to boost their music streaming user figures.

The numbers are no doubt boosted by the inclusion of it for free in many phone plans if it is the same elsewhere as it is here in the UK. With my Vodafone plan I got it for 12 months, have not used it a huge amount but it is nice to have.
They often give it away for free with the purchase of many android phones too.

I agree with you generally.
Owning >>> subs.

I pay for YT premium because I HATE ads. I’m so sick of them.
That and background play (when falling asleep for example).

I had thousands of CDs. I just don’t see it possible to own a library to compete with YouTube or Spotify.

do you see what I mean?

I gave in late last year and did the 30 day free trial. FISHED IN. I now practically live in YouTube. It's the best $11.99 I spend a month. If I could have only one streaming service, it would be YouTube. Not even a contest. Nobody's more surprised than me, trust me.
Totally agree. It would be last to go for me too.
