As much as I hate Google, I’ve been a fan of YouTube since the very beginning and it’s my primary source of video entertainment. I mainly watch science, technology, automotive, and engineering videos from a wide range of creators. It’s much better value than any other service. I pay yearly for it to save some money, but it never auto renews. Every year when it gets cancelled, I’m suddenly shocked by how many ads are all over YouTube and how many preroll and midroll ads they shove in. Idk how any normal person uses the free version, it’s basically unusable and I heard recently they’ve been making it even worse while also banning accounts that use certain ad blockers.

$22.99/month for the family membership is ridiculous though. Which is why we use adblocker instead.

Is it?

If I may ask...

How many people in your family?
How many average hours do each of them spend watching YT.

Lets say it's 4 members @ 5 hours a month (which I think is very low). That is just a hair over $1/hour of content. Considering what you would pay for a family of 4 to go see a movie in a theater (2-3 hours of content) the cost really isn't high at all.

Yes, it is higher than most streaming services but if YT content is what you prefer then it seems to make sense if you use it any more than my example.

YT is a far cry from what it was and what it could have potentially have been in the early 2000’s. It’s just a time waste and full of sup par content. Better to read a book
YT is by far the "best" social media platform there is though. I like how you compare "YouTube" to a book. The comparison doesn't even make sense. Maybe if you compared Youtube to a library, or a specific video channel to a book, then you might have something.

There's tons of great content creators and channels on YouTube. You can be subscribed to only high quality channels and never even see the "sub par" stuff you talk about.

I have a one month trial and I cannot go back to ads so I will pay $13.99 witch isn't bad as YouTube is the only streaming service I currently have.

This is why I don't like YouTube. It's bad enough that it is full of crappy paid content. but the content creators are getting greedier. Ads are getting worse for non-paid excess. I can get Streaming services I can get from other places on the internet. I don't need this.

They can raise prices all they want, as long as they force people to also pay for YouTube Music when you want add-free videos, I will never subscribe. I have far better sources for my music, why force me to pay for something that I don't want? So I continue to use ad-blockers and never watch on tablets, TV or phone. It's their loss really. I'd be willing to pay something for ad-free YouTube, but it needs to come as a stand-alone deal.

YouTube is YouTube Music, there is no difference. If anything, Music is a benefit that you get on top of YT premium as a standalone app that can act as a music player.

The music catalog is literally just videos of songs that are uploaded to YouTube that you can play w/o ads.

Of course, perhaps YouTube can just say that you are paying for YT Premium, and the Music App is a $1 add on per month, except they give it to you for free instead of charging you for it.

YouTube is raising the cost of its Premium plan in multiple countries around the world, with the new pricing surfacing over the weekend (via Android Authority). Prices are up in Europe, South America, and and some countries in Asia and the Middle East.

Price hikes are being tracked over on Reddit, and so far customers in the following countries are being warned about higher prices: Belgium, Colombia, the Czech Republic, Denmark, Indonesia, Ireland, Italy, Malaysia, the Netherlands, Norway, Saudi Arabia, Singapore, Sweden, Switzerland, Thailand, and the United Arab Emirates.

The biggest single plan price increase is in Norway, where prices are up 42 percent. YouTube Premium in Norway used to cost approximately $11.33 per month, but now it is just over $16. In Sweden, the family plan now costs $27.38 per month, up from $17.57. On average, single person plans have increased 18 percent, while family plans are up 43 percent.

Many YouTube Premium customers affected by the price changes have said on Reddit that they plan to cancel given the significant increases to family plans.

YouTube Premium pricing has not increased in the United States, Canada, or other countries. In the U.S., the standard plan is $13.99 per month, and a family plan is $22.99 per month.

In this day and age adds are annoying for sure, but just so much easier to ignore, just have your phone close by and play a game of speed chess (or other game) while the add runs. use their power against them.
