So... is Youtube saying they make $6.99 per customer in ad revenue per month?

Even if it's a bit less than that, it sure sounds like a lot.

I like the idea of this. I personally don’t care for anything else, just ad free viewing.

however, subscription fatigue is real, and I wish all the content providers would offer themselves alongside others with discounts, something similar to Apple one, only you get to choose what you want, and the more you sign up to the bigger the discount. Hopefully this will happen one day, since this seems to be the way things are going these days.

I doubt they get that much ad revenue so the recent addition of more ads to non monetised content and much more intrusive multiple insertion just to force me to pay instead isn't going to work. I'll just deploy better filtering/watch less until they come up with a sensible price.

That's note the case anymore, unfortunately. I even emailed Wipr about this and they told me Youtube has made the ads undetectable that content trackers no longer are able to block them.
I rarely watch YouTube on my iPhone so it has been a while. Though I just tried it and yes I did see one video with an add....the other 5 or so I started did not. So Wipr on iOS is hit or miss. On my Mac...Ublock stops them every time and so does Wipr with Safari (tried a bunch of videos).

I've been paying 9.99 a month for Red\Premium for years. I guess I'm grandfathered in?

It's about time. I pay for premium but I don't use any of the other features. I just want no ads and not to have to use blockers and airplay and all that nonsense. This can't come soon enough.

They used to charge less iirc before they forced the bundling of yt music.

I'd pay $7/mo just for the background play feature, but I won't pay $12/mo. Paying more for YouTube--for content they didn't even make--than for Netflix is just something I won't do.

I could pay for this. All I watch is YT these days..... but I won’t pay the insane price for YT premium.

I guess Youtube is trying to figure out the best price, but even € 6,99 is still too much, and they still gather all your info and habits to sell to the highest bidder.

Will Youtube make it even cheaper in the future, or throw even more irritating commercials into it, to tempt users.

Addbock Plus is the best option for now, when it drops to € 3,99 I might consider it :)

I pay for Youtube premium and don't use YouTube Music, background playback, or offline downloads. In fact, I don't even know what background playback is. I'd switch to this Lite version in a second.

With the right tools, addons/plugins or browsers you can already use/view Youtube without ads. ;)

I’m fine with paying for YouTube premium to avoid ads, but now the in-video sponsor segments are getting ridiculous. I shouldn’t have to, but at least skipping ahead is relatively easy.
Agreed, have to pay Google to avoid their ads and still deal with the “Today’s sponsor is”. If you complain in the comments about it you’ll be bombarded with “they have to make money” crap. Funny how they made ”enough” before sponsors where a thing. If google would crack down on this practice I would pay for premium.

I only watch a few YouTube videos per week, probably less than an hour total and only on Apple TV. I would absolutely pay $4/mo for ad free, not more though. There will probably never be a plan that simple though.

I pay $7 a month for premium, and I would gladly give up Google Music for a price cut. I am confused as to what the 1/4 of the features is in reference to. Are they claiming ad-free viewing on different platforms is a separate feature?

I make Ads for YouTube, so I like to see what they're doing and how they're working.

However it feels like the sheer number they either have added in themselves or created an economy where creators add them in under incentive will drive people towards this option. I watch YT more than TV.

Offer a bundle. Don't want ads? $1.99 a month. Want no ads, background playing? $3.99 a month. Want all of those and offline downloads? $6.99. Then whatever else the full premium version allows.

I only use a PC and don't own a single Mac as I don't like them myself and it's a gaming PC mostly so it has to be Windows. So it's Windows 10, Chrome and Ublock which work great together.

For my iPad and iPhone though I find 1Blocker or AdGard work very well on Safari and even block YT ads on there, I do use both on Safari which I shouldn't really but they seem to play nicely together and haven't caused any page issues yet. Plus with the Safari YT PiP shortcut I get to have an ad free experience with PiP on my iPad/iPhone without the bloody nagging YT app asking to buy a subscription half the time I open it.

i don’t know where they got the € 11,99 price from because here in Holland it is actually € 15,99.
That price is way too ridiculous for what it offers to me 🙄

Same here in Finland. And I don’t see any option for Premium Lite in the YouTube app at the moment, just the 15,99 EUR Premium.
