Hey Google, how bout making 4k part of the base package, and not charge an extra $20 month for it.

So many channels don't even have 4k support yet, but at least give us sports in 4k.

What does the whole "choosing the Bug, and checking stats for nerds" mean at the end of this article?

Yes, I’m having the same issue. Tried on two different Apple TVs so far. I get nothing for a while then an “error licensing this video”. Works fine on my iPhone and through the Roku TV app.
I was getting that yesterday around 6pm EST as well. Samsung YTTV app was also having the same problem. iPhone, iPad, and computers all worked fine.

Philo was as well. It was something with Google’s DRM that both use. May be coincidental but I bet it is repeated to this release.

I don't intend to sound begative or demanding, but come on 5.0 in 3`2022 when are thay going to add 7.1/atmos what about dolby ma?

I've never heard it called a "bug", but apparently they're referring to the vertical ellipsis found in many UIs, including the very edit panel I'm using to compose this. "Stats for nerds" actually is a menu choice there.

I would rather have HDR support (Dolby Vision even better), which I believe the Apple TV YouTube app does not support.
They kind of go together IMO. People that care about one care about usually care about the other as they invest in home theatre and better displays. Outside of YouTube/YouTube TV, you never see these as one or the other features.

It also irks me YouTube TV charges $20 more per month for 4K ($10/mo for first year) and mainly only sports channels even have 4K content.

That would be great, but the reality is there's likely no live TV content that is offering that at the moment. Look at how slow 4k is to roll out. Nearly all receivers are able to turn a 5.1 into a 7.1/atmos via virtualization as well (not the same, but still sounds great).

No, they're referring to the actual icon. On the Apple TV version of YouTube TV, the "stats for nerds" icon that you see after clicking the ellipsis is a drawing of a bug. Because you use that option to debug stream issues.

For me it's $50 cheaper a month so we just dropped Directv stream. The picture quality on my LG OLED is the same, and now they have a Bally App for regional sports so NO longer stuck with AT&T Directv rate games.

curious how much the bally app costs per month?

Maybe when cable channels have programs that use it? That’s the type of stuff you get in streaming services. And in streaming services that have cable channels, like HBO Max… on only certain films.

This is YouTube TV, the cable replacement service. Not regular YouTube.
Aha, thanks for the clarification. So it is limited to YouTubes streaming service for users in US, not their ad free service for YouTube.

It is incredible to me that they have had a regular streaming service with just stereo sound up to now. Just mind boggling.

What will happen first: Humans on Mars or YouTube with 5.1 surround sound? I guess they are too busy with replacing their short lived experimental services.

I sometimes wonder if Google intentionally delays features like this for Apple platforms as a way to make them a "second class citizen" to their own devices. Why else would something as basic as surround sound support be delayed for so long?
I know right? It always seems like the the Apple TV version of these apps get these features later than the Roku & Chromecast versions of the apps do.

Like, YouTube TV on Apple TV still doesn't have the new guide while Roku & Chromecast have had it for a while now.

The frame rate matching seems to be broken - if you pop into the AppleTV owners section you'll see people complaining about it. Any commercial/Video stutters in a way that cuts out the first few seconds of video. Super annoying.
Guess AppleTV users need to start turning this Frame Rate Matching off now?
