Hate this, but I did just add that $4.99/mo 4K service to our already promo'd bill. Much better than that $14.99/mo non-sense.

Is YouTube TV cheaper than satellite? YTTV has 100 channels for 73? Dish has 120 channels for 80 + fees? What's the main difference between them? Haven't had YTTV and at my house we haven't had satellite in over a decade. Both seem to be really close in price now.

Been wanting traditional TV again for nostalgia. haha

Does YTTV have 4K channels?

Yes, they have some 4K channels. In terms of price, overall YTTV is cheaper thanDish. With something like YTTV, there are no monthly equipment fees, upfront cost, 2 year contracts, etc.

The convenience of starting & cancelling anytime & no fees or equipment is a big deal for many.

Just download the app & you're good to go. Cancel when you want, restart when you want...all on the app. If you move, just change the zip code & everything continues.

So you have to pay extra to have 4K streaming on YouTube TV? Learned something new
But anyway streaming is starting price it's self out of being viable.
You have to have internet at home so that's a fee too
I can get Charter 500Mbps(no data cap)/125 Channels(ABC,NBC,FOX,CBS,TNT,TBS,ESPN so that's pretty much my sports channels) for $110 a month for 2yrs, if they won't renew at that price cancel and move to the local Util for about the same price.

Jesus, netflix basic is $15.49 now? Ugh and their basic doesn’t even have 4k, or is it even less than 1080? They need a new business model. Like I pay $1 a month for Hulu from Black Friday sign up deals every year and that’s 4k
I agree, ditched Netflix and enjoying AppleTV+ hoping it stays cheap like now

I'm older. These streaming services, in my opinion, lack one thing or another, are missing certain channels (wish YTTV had A&E), etc. Or I have to switch devices or apps to watch stuff, or switch inputs to watch local stuff. Too old for all that personally when I can have it all, in one place, with one standard guide and remote with Dish, DirecTV or Spectrum. $120 a month or so. Sounds like a lot, but if you add stuff on to a basic streamer service, it's not that much more. And, I don't go to Starbucks, rarely eat out, etc. Folks shouldn't preach or judge what people spend for any services or products. It's a personal decision. So many who may save here on TV, spend the money elsewhere right? My $.02, not a flame from a match.

I'm not a YouTube TV subscriber and I never will be. $73/month is an absolute scam. God, that's as expensive as Pro Tools...

Don’t think I can blame YTTV entirely for this one. The sports networks are the driver for much higher prices. Contracts they are doing and just expecting us to pay is ridiculous. Sports industry itself is a giant money grab right now. The average consumer who just wants to watch or go to these games in person are getting squeezed hard.
is it possible to get it without the sports packages for less??

No MLB. Local news is by IP.
No, it’s not. You put in your ZIP code and it requests your browser’s geolocation to verify. I use YTTV with Starlink (satellite internet) and the IP address is nowhere near me.

Edit: Hadn’t traveled with YTTV. Local news is device-location based when home and IP-address based when traveling

According to YouTube, the price is increasing because "content costs have risen" and it needs to charge more to "bring you the best possible TV service."
  • The "best possible service" wouldn't require me to pay for a bunch of channels I don't use.
  • The "best possible service" wouldn't require me to record all the episodes of a series when I might only want particular seasons or episodes.
  • The "best possible service" wouldn't mix video on-demand content with non-skippable ads with my recorded DVR content where I can skip ads, forcing me to choose which source every time I watch a video.
  • The "best possible service" wouldn't have a UI designed more to push forward content I am not interested in rather than allow me to specifically select the channels and shows that I see.

I got rid of cable a year ago. Just have internet service to my house. Then I use a bunch of free apps like Pluto tv & others for hundreds of channels. I already have an Amazon prime membership, so I have tons of movies as well as a netflix account & apple tv +. That is more than enough for me. And I pay a fraction of the cost of what cable or youtube tv would cost me.
