Well, well, well... let's see how consumers react... I personally prefer to have a well-priced VPN option to watch what I want whenever I want.

No doubt. I'm pretty sure people can still use Netflix as well — at least I'm pretty sure mine is still used by some people)))

Yeah, I think the loopholes make it easier for people...until any sort of hardcore crackdown happens, it is business as usual. With YTTV is even if you are in the same zip code (but not the same house) it still works.

I think with this price hike, they probably aren't going to be super strict with the home requirements, it's been like this since 2017. (Although when Sunday Ticket launches in the fall it MAY change that for those who subscribe)

Why would you pay so much for live tv if you can get any streaming service with the same content (movies, tv shows, documentaries, sports) for less? You could literally get Hulu, Disney+, HBO Max et al for far less AND you can watch everything when u want! Without commercial breaks every 2 minutes. I don’t get it

However, I have not watched live tv in years so maybe I am missing out on something great that justifies paying 70+ a month haha
Sports. You mentioned that in your post, but what I've been getting from those who want to watch sports (legally) is that that's where the price gauging is. People will ask where they can watch their local sports team, or some big league stuff, and it's a roll of the dice if it'll just be a nominal price, or require something that would amount to 2 to 3x for some "typical" streaming service.

Netflix is trying to be strict despite their price increases. I know that some of my friends overseas were using my login, not sure if they still do, but I sometimes see something I haven't watched as viewed in my account. :)

YouTube today announced that it is increasing the price of the YouTube TV service, with the cost set to go from $65 to $73 starting today. New members will need to pay $73/month for the streaming service starting now, while prices will increase for existing members on April 18.

According to YouTube, the price is increasing because "content costs have risen" and it needs to charge more to "bring you the best possible TV service."

With the price change, YouTube is also dropping the cost of the 4K content add-on. While it used to cost $19.99 per month, it is now $9.99 per month, so those who were subscribed to YouTube TV with the 4K add-on will actually see a small price decrease. YouTube TV with 4K will cost $83 instead of $85.

YouTube TV is a live TV service that has been around since 2017. When it first launched, YouTube TV was priced at $35, so costs have more than doubled over the last six years. YouTube TV allows up to six people in the same household to use the service, and it includes unlimited cloud DVR storage.

There are more than 100 channels available, with add-on subscriptions for premium networks like HBO Max and STARZ.

Do people out there, really pay that much for YouTube TV 😳 The world has gone mad 😏

Is YouTube TV cheaper than satellite? YTTV has 100 channels for 73? Dish has 120 channels for 80 + fees? What's the main difference between them? Haven't had YTTV and at my house we haven't had satellite in over a decade. Both seem to be really close in price now.

Been wanting traditional TV again for nostalgia. haha

Does YTTV have 4K channels?

What?! With all of Google/Alphabet's money, they could continue keeping this low in order to dominate the market or at least attempt to.

This is the major problem with these services. They start out cheap then eventually price themselves right out of being competitive. We were with the DIRECTV streaming service from the time it started through last year. Our monthly price had risen more than 100%.

We switched over to YouTubeTV...and thankfully are on a promo of $59/mo for a year. It is going to get to the point where, ironically, cable is going to be the cheaper option...
Or at the very least, the similar option. In other words, pick your poison.

I am so glad that I spent the money for my Plex Server. I don't miss paying for cable t.v. at all. I can watch whatever shows and movies I want on the server (without commercials) and I don't have to worry about any price hikes. Before 2023 is over, I bet YouTube raises the rate again.

Not sure why anyone would pay for tv, let alone pay that much. America is a weird place.

Don’t think I can blame YTTV entirely for this one. The sports networks are the driver for much higher prices. Contracts they are doing and just expecting us to pay is ridiculous. Sports industry itself is a giant money grab right now. The average consumer who just wants to watch or go to these games in person are getting squeezed hard.
Subscribers should demand sports network free subscriptions at lower prices. I certainly don’t care about most of that. But everyone wants to shove ESPN down my throat.
