It's from your own source buddy (pretty intelligent of you, just search Zune on wikipedia)... 4% of the overall MP3 market (which is HUGE because a lot of people buy the cheap ones, some as cheap as $20)

The 11% is from the hard drive market (5/2007, which seem to be the last time hard numbers from the source were released), which are the legit, more expensive MP3 players

didn't use wiki.

That UI is better looking? Are they crazy? It's like all text, they should call it the DOSzune.

I'm surprised so many are criticizing the iPhone OS UI… which is one of the main selling points and gets pretty much universal raves. I don't know what you want them to do with it at this point in time. It's damn near perfect.

I also love how the guy is a total suck up to the other guy demo-ing it (lame!) "Oh yeah, I'm looking at it for the fifth second and I haven't even touched it myself, but the video feature is way better than something like.. an iPhone" LOL, give me a break dude!

I've never seen more of a chonklah retarded UI. could they not afford icon illustrators? are they nutz with that font. their UI makes my ass itch like a bad student project of the kid whose parents donated the new wing.
I don't think you've ever used a Zune and played with the interface or options.

QUOTE=Unprocessed: "Okay, when the iphone of the future has an OLED screen, please tell me you're going to crap over Apple for "copying" Zune?
Quite frankly OLED is the future, and Apple was NOT the first to take the initiative."

It's not about first, it's about the best. Apple wasn't the first mp3 player but they came out with better players and took over the market.

When Apple decides it makes sense, I'm sure they will come out with OLED screens as well.

In so far as the Zune HD, there is really nothing new here and it is still months! away from release! Where's the "news"?!...

you're trying to hard...

The UI looks pretty nifty, but more confusing than the iPhone OS. So I think Apple still has an advantage there. That OLED-screen does look beautiful, hopefully Apple starts using OLED soon. It would help make the device smaller and save power.

What!?!?!?!?!?

Well, I'm impressed. And I'm still on track to dump my iPod at the end of the year and pick up a Zune.....

And for all the people on the flame-waggon. The thing is still being worked on. I love the "11%" statistic about Windows Fanboys. These forums are too predictable. First couple pages are the same people bashing the same products based upon the same arguments. It's always fun to stick my nose in and shake up the barrel. Here's to you Microsoft. You've done well....

wow, i must say im impressed even with that tiny of a demo! and it almost does look as good if not better than the iphone/touch interface.

Having watched the video, I have a hard time believing the guy liked that UI better than the iPhone/iTouch. Really, I have a hard time believing he liked it, period.

I know taste is subjective, but that didn't impress me at all.

BTW (as noted by others) I love the "you can really see the high-def", since it's pretty well documented it's only HD when it's hooked to an HD television (and that's all Microsoft claims about it anyway). That's not a slam on Microsoft - it's just a slam on the reviewer. :D

you're trying to hard...

I just don't think it's fair to label the Zune as crap or labeling it as simply copying the ipod when they have made outstanding MP3 players in the past, that have often surpassed Apple's offerings.

If anything, this forces Apple to make an OLED version of the touch sooner.

Sony currently has an 11inch OLED monitor which can be seen on ebay for over $2,000, so MS did go big on this one, and deserve a slight bit of credit. They've raised the ante and made things interesting. It's not good for one market to be so polarized, it just kills innovation.

It does look nice, but the iPod Touch is really a different beast altogether when you consider the iTunes integration and the App Store.

If they found a way to do what Palm did and have a device that showed up in iTunes, then it would be a reasonable alternative for someone only interested in a straight up music/video player (well not for me, as my music is Apple Lossless and I don't believe their AAC compatibility extends to lossless). But I think the market has pretty soundly rejected the "mass storage drag and drop" paradigm of music player management -- I guess it still has its devotees, but it is so Nomad Jukebox i could puke.

If I were Microsoft, I would definitely do a Zune desktop client that mimicked iTunes.

Are you kidding? The Zune has always come with a desktop client. Apple has you fanboys so RDFed you don't even realize what developments occur or are occurring outside of Apple or what pricing is like outside of Apple.

Another thing the Zune has going for it is a CHOICE of a la carte DRM free MP3s (that can be played on every device that plays audio files unlike Apple's DRM free and username tagged AACs), a subscription for $5 month (which is what it works out to be because ten songs can be kept every month), or both. Plus it can wirelessly sync to the desktop over Wi-Fi and USB (unlike the iPod/iPhone) and if you have a subscription you can listen to a full song on command with or without downloading it, the "preview" is the whole song and not a 30 second clip. If you want to download the DRM version of the song or whole album, it is just one click. If you want to download a version to keep, you can buy it with one click. If you don't like the song, you don't have to do anything, whereas with iTunes you have to make a decision whether or not to buy after a 30 second preview.

Below are screenshots of the Zune software, it doesn't offer quite as many features as iTunes, but it has the important things and MS does offer WMP for advanced users. The interface is a breeze, and the animations and effects are stunning.

Again, Zunes are retarded, and MS is dreaming if they think they can crank out anything that will beat the iPod touch.

I'm still going to try one out though. It is a gadget, after all...

Lol im sure everyone is just clamoring for an FM tuner on the top of their lists.

What a bloody fanboy thing to say. I bet if Apple had done it first and Microsoft had only introduced it just now in the Zune HD, you'd be going: "Gee, you think the most basic concept of a FM radio would occur to them sooner. :apple: *orgasmic Apple pride*"

Nice and quiet on the fact that here's a final product w/ OLED while Apple's still looking into it.

How many times did the guy tap on the screen, and nothing happened, and he had to tap again to make it work?

The product isn't even released yet. So don't criticize input problems as if they'll be there in the shipping Zune HD.

You people throw a fit when folks put down the 3.0 beta firmware since it's not finished yet. Might as well show the same respect to Microsoft.

IMO, the Zune's UI is a complete mess, like any other software M$ makes. Not to mention, a low resolution OLED screen is not as "beautiful" as the person describes. The name itself is misleading because it does not support full HD.

Supports HD output.

Has an HD Radio built in.

wow it looks great, the ui needs work and i would like a bigger width but all in all it looks like a great competitor. although the only way it'll stay competitive is if they develop a app store of some sort
