I don't expect anyone (besides me) that already owns a Touch will believe Microsoft could make something similarly desirable. I mentioned the new Zune HD at a lunch table where everyone there owns a Touch or an Iphone. Scowls of contempt is the best I can describe the look on most of their faces. I'm getting that here too, and I don't mind. Those same people all begrudgingly admit the screen of my cowon S9 does look better than their Touch screens. The S9 uses the same screen the Zune HD has. You kids don't need to buy a Zune HD. I could care less. I personally think they'll sell surprisingly well, and I base that simply on my experience with other players and what I've seen the Zune HD can do via various videos posted around the web. Add that some places have "sold out" of their pre-order alotment already. Add the buzz in Zune forums. For that matter add the fact that the Zune HD has generated lengthy threads on most tech forums (including this one) and you have to wonder...

The nice thing about this debate is that time will prove the winner. It's clear we're all interested in that outcome, lest this thread be ignored.

I dont think many besides you want to preorder this sight unseen, when they can wait a few weeks and take a look at it next to the 3G Ipod Touch.

You like OLE screens, I think we got that. I'm not that big a fan as I pointed out earlier. I'm not sure there is a screen on the planet that will make me go back to the first generation Zune, the screen is important, but size, usefulness, features, are pretty important as well. And lets be honest, Microsoft hardware hasnt been that great lately (see Xbox 360 return rates for the first run).

I think most of us are grown on here 4D, how about you act the part. I don't see any a whole lot of kids in this conversation. You seem to buy every player, thats fine, but I still havent seen why others should preorder a Zune to arrive after the Apple event. Why shouldnt you wait to see what Apple is showing and then decide and order which one you like best or go to Best Buy on the 15th and look at them side by side?

OK, Tig. Sorry I got your dander up. You go ahead and believe what you believe. I'll stop pointing out your lack of facts or logic. I promise! ;)

4D,

I seem to be the one posting facts.

Fact #1) Ipod Touch will be available first
Fact #2) Both Units will be at Best Buy on the 15th
Fact #3) You can see the Apple demo and still preorder the Zune HD
Fact #4) Microsofts last big hardware sale (Xbox 360) had high infant mortality
Fact #5) No App store

Your comments are you like OLE screens better and you like the "cool" visual presentation when playing music and you need to order early so you can be sure and get one on Sept 15th. There doesnt seem to be alot of logic or facts in your comments. If I decide to get a Zune HD, and dont get it until Sept 22nd, its really not the end of the world, thats another fact, I'll use my current media player until I get the new one then I'll use the new one.

It's amazing how much concern/interest the Zune HD seems to be generating. I see Zune HD threads popping up in every tech forum I visit. Far more than was generated when the Sony X series was first hinted at.

It also seems like Bill Gates' retirement from MS has released a newer, more relaxed/revealing approach, especially from the Zune development team. We're seeing video interviews and demos of the product a month before it is buyable. Photos were showing up across the last two or more months. Nearly complete specs are posted, and you can pre-order one now. In contrast Apple is doing it's best to save all the drama for it's single-moment-in-time September show. Sure we have glimpses/hints/clues leaked from vendors. Nothing from Apple though. Neither is bad. Neither approach offends me. I'm enjoying the contrast.

So bring on the debate. No one needs both devices. The Touch has a huge headstart in available apps and accessories. Is there anyone here (yes, I know this is a mac/apple site) that is considering the purchase of a Zune HD?

Apps store now confirmed for the Zune HD. It'll take them awhile to accumulate any, but the Tegra chip should be able to handle just about anything. Looking more interesting every day.
